The O2 thread was a 'Grey' post. Not illegal as such just a bit.............
How do you know the Qur'ān post was legal? Book downloads are a bit iffy, copyright etc.

Fair enough, I hadn't looked at it from that angle, I can see how exploiting an obvious website bug to get a £70 quid phone for free could be considered a bit iffy legally.

I thought the copyright rules for books were similar to music in that they expired X number of years after initial publication.

I'm not sure about copyright rules regards to 'books' but this is a 'special' book. I don't think you can legally download the Bible, can you?

Pass.

There are definately sites around where you can download the bible from, maybe this is another legal grey area.

It's not worth the risk of Lawsuits etc for HUKD.
I think the best philosophy is:- 'if in any doubt, keep it out'. :p

The o2 thread was pulled as that was too far over the grey area line. If it was a £0 amount on their site then it would have stayed up but by manipulating Google cache etc it is too close to deliberate fraud than anything. We do stand up to a lot of threats from merchants regarding information our members have posted but there is also a line for us where we pull threads that give the steps for fraudulent practices. I know it's a grey area sometimes but this post was a bit more than what we felt comfortable with.

As for the Qur'an thread I believe that was a software download in the Hot Deals section. All free software downloads belong in the free software download thread in Freebies.

Thanks, that solves that then :)

Would it be possible to have a sticky thread where a brief explanation as to why a thread has been pulled can be given? Maybe restrict posting on this thread to mods and admin to stop arguments developing in it.

You should be glad these boards are moderated so well. The O2 manipulation is all over MSE (very poorly run I must say) and it doesn’t work anyway.

I am, I'm very impressed that any attempts at spamming always seem to get deleted within a few minutes for instance. This thread isn't intended as a criticism, sometimes it not always obvious why a thread has been deleted, I'm just nosey and like to know what's going on :)

I've browsed MSE a few times, I was put off by the way it looked more than the content, the pages are too cluttered and not at all easy on the eye, the whole design of the sites looks very amateurish.

The thing is, a lot of threads are removed and mods simply don't have the time to justify it in a sticky everytime they are removed. If you're desperate to know why a thread was removed then feel free to ask a mod. We usually always PM the OP. Sometimes you just have to accept that there's something wrong with a post and it's been removed for a reason.
