New Deal Submission Form - Help and How to, comments and feedback

juliet_bravojuliet_bravo[admin]

Please keep this thread on topic guys, if you spot any issues or bugs please let us know asap.

Below is a step by step guide on how to use the new deal submission form.

We've designed this to make the deal/thread submission process easier, to help underline duplicate deals and avoid the problem of incorrect merchants being added to deals.

Please note you still need to be proactive in checking whether your deal has been posted previously

As with anything, change can take a while to get used to but this will eventually make the deal submit process a lot easier, as well as helping to avoid the increasing problem of duplicate deals etc..

    Duplicate posts

http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/5808/gifphpw.gif If you use a previously used link/URL, your post will be flagged as a duplicate and this screen will pop up:

    http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t125/juliet_bravo/Duplicate-1.jpg

    * If the suggested duplicate is the same as the one you're adding, check out the original deal- see how long it's been on site etc. If it's older than a month then you can go ahead and repost.

    * If you don't think the suggested duplicate is in any way relevant to the deal then please let us know as it may be a bug.

    * If you think your deal is original and not a repeat post, then doublecheck and click "No, Not a Duplicate."

    * If your deal is a duplicate, then click the relevant button.

List? I saw it and hit my head when I realised how bad it was.

It doesn't seem to pick up duplicate deals that are found by searching on some sites, for example I searched for Rocky box set on Amazon knowing Rayman had already posted the deal and came up with the URL

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rocky-Complete-Saga-Disc-Box/dp/B000W668R6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1251913534&sr=1-1

which the new system didn't catch as a dupe as obviously the URL would be different to the direct link.

Yeah we tend to trim amazon links atm so that's a good point barneydog.
This is still a work in progress and obviously isn't going to be 100% but hopefully it will help the situation with dupe postings.

Cheers for the answer JB, perhaps you can put a note in the guide above that a manual search should still be done as people who aren't experienced with the site may rely on it and assume that their deal cannot be a dupe if the system doesn't pick it up (especially as the example in posts 2 and 3 are for Amazon :whistling:)

At the select Merchant bit, there is no drop down list for me!
    Adam2050
It did it first time I wanted too. So I selected the submit again. Think there might be some problems with the scripting.

If you are using IE8 you may have some problems selecting a merchant, it should be fixed soon.
