This sounds like a great idea.

I plump my weight behind this one too!

Yes, that's a great idea I think other freebie sites have a lot more topics than this one and a seperate one for comps would be easier to navigate :)
#5
Admin, what are your thoughts on this??
#6
Yes, that's a great idea

Hey sorry for the slow response :)

Well really I'm willing to do what the majority of regular users here want. Up to now I've kept the amount of forums fairly small just to keep traffic/posting together as it's a pain hopping around forums when there isn't much being posted.

What do you guys think? Would it be too much of a bother moving back and forth between a competitions forum and regular freebie forum? Is it too much bother sorting out the comps right now?

One suggestion I can think of is to keep the one forum for now but have all competitions have "Competition" in the title so that those who don't care to enter them can skip clicking on those threads.

Thoughts?

Personally I don't mind them being in the same forum as freebies.

More often than not, there are competitions when you go to a freebie site.

If "competition" or "win" are in the subject title, you can skip over them. The only problem there, is when the "next topic" arrow is used in the forum. But even then, you can just flip past it onto the next topic if you wish.

Comparing HUKD to MSE. MSE is very cluttered now + it "feels" very messy trying to go through most of it. To me, the layout here is so much better. The reason being, that there aren't too many links to click through.
I don't know about anyone else, but when going from forum to forum, it occassionally becomes a little slow. Users on dial up would have a longer wait when crossing forums.

Anyway, I treat competitions as freebies myself, so it doesn't bother me too much that they're together.

why dont u make a poll? i think forum for competition on its own would be a brilliant idea m8. seriously ... DO IT! :D
#11
Personally I think it would be better to have competitions in its own forum. But as afroahmed suggests why not have a poll, that way can go with what the majority of the community think.
#12
I prefer their own forum myself, but having the word in title does make life easier.

A poll would be nice :)
#13
majority rule!! POOOOLLLLL (but not tax :P)

Here's the plan...

We'll try out putting Competition in the title for a week or so and then have a poll. This way we can see how it works keeping one forum right now and then a poll will be more fruitful in a week.

Sound good?
#15
yeah, good one! Wonder if people will realise/remember to put comp in teh title tho.... we shall see!
#16
Admin, i think its a good idea.

It's now a lot easier to see the competitions, but i still think they would be better placed in their own section.
#19
I tend to use "View Posts Since Last Visit" now so having in title has proved more useful to me and just ignored them!

Has worked well :)
#20
i would prefer a seperate forum, but am quite happy with just having competition in the title!

having thought about this, i personally would prefer another forum for comps. Simply cos i dont actualyl ever click on one & i think there are far more comps than there are freebies around......
#23
Do we really need them, every second web site you visit has a competition going anyway. Can't see the freebies for them.

I think they are part & parcel... but they could do with a section of their own I think, being that so many are popping up... :?:

My partner loves the Competitions, gives me peace... :D
But Im really into all the Freebees... :D
#25
Some people like competitions, so I think they should be part of the forum, I just wish they were in their own section.
#26
i completely agree with this it would be far easier if their was a separate thread for comps
#27
jcat
If there was a separate forum, people wouldn't put 'competition' in the title, and, as devalia says, that's really useful when you're viewing posts since last visit. So I wouldn't want another forum.

couldn't we still have a separate comp forum and ask people to put comp in the title? and likewise, in the freebie section ask people to make sure they put free in the title?
