The thread has been moved to check out the website and deal. It might not be returned to the forum, we don't know as yet.
#2
Please check your PM's [private messages] from last night. Thanks.

Was the website dodgy rayman?

I ordered 8 valves and a tub of inhibitor from the site last week and they arrived two days later. After reading through the posings on HUKD It looks like a few people are having their deals pulled in the same way mine was.
[admin]#5
Hi Cappa. First time poster. Unknown store. That's a recipe for getting checked out.

I ordered some of these valves this morning. It said I needed to phone them with a credit card to pay them. I have phoned them 4 times so far and only got an answering machine. Left my number but had no call back yet.

Can anybody tell me what's going on?

I guess it's the credibility of the site that's in question. They seem to only have their site live for 7 months:

Like I say, I never had a problem with my order. I just thought it was a good price and worth sharing with other members.

Totally agree. The product is just what I want at a good price. I'm glad I looked at the thread soon after it was posted otherwise I would have missed a good deal. I can understand why self promotion is not allowed but in this case it doesn't matter if cappa is Bathroom Envy because it IS a good deal.

A few searches reveal Bathroom Envy's proprietor, his home address and even the name of his wife so if they are dodgy they aren't doing a good job of hiding.

It's a small business that is having a problem taking credit card payments at the moment.

I think the thread should be re-instated

It does matter because its self-promotion. If you would like to read something that is full of what merchants think is a good deal then read the ads in the Sun.

If a merchant has a good deal yeah we want to know about it but they can't post it themselves. That's why there's a big warning on the Submit page and a link to the form they can use to send it to us for review.

I didn't really read this thread very well - didn't realise he was at it.

David Tarn - you are a very naughty man!
#12
No criticism meant Admin, understand and totally agree with the rule and think it should be enforced.

Would it be pushing my luck to post the deal myself after the stuff arrives? Or would that make me an accessory after the fact?

(Think I'm skating on thin ice here!)
[admin]#13
I think feedback would be good considering the address is residential and no contact info on the site. Both reasons we would pull a new/unknown merchant generally.....
#14
I can assure you that I am not the owner of the website I posted and I am not sure quite how you arrived at that conclusion with no proof. You must have a crystal ball or something. It appears that new members are not allowed to post decent deals on here unless they are for some cheap dvd's from Tesco or the like. Surely you can come up with a better way of vetting posts than this. I would have thought the system is self checking in that poor deals are voted cold and decent ones are voted hot by the members and they don't even make the hot list until they reach a certain point. It seems a shame that people's posts are cut due to unfounded speculation over who is posting the deal even when it is a good deal
#15
Not another.

Why do people always do this?
#16
I don't know why I'm getting involved in this. It's against my better judgement. But there seems to be a principle or two involved and it looks like I am the only one to act on the thread while it was up.

Admin and Rayman have a good point that it looks like self promotion and that must not be allowed. But Cappa has a point as well in that it looks like he is assumed guilty until proven innocent which is the wrong way round.

If people can be bothered to pursue this and not let it just fade away then two things need to be decided: 1 Has Cappa something to do with Bathroom Envy? 2 Is the website dodgy?

1. I have no idea and don't see how I can know either way but then I'm just a member. Can that be known for sure by anybody? Could it be that Cappa didn't bother to register until he had something to post?

2. My experience: I placed an order. The website gave its address and telephone number on the last form and said I needed to phone to pay. I've come across that before so I phoned and got an answering machine that gave the company as DWT plumbing. I left a message. The 'contact us' on the website gave a mobile number but I didn't phone it. I got an order confirmation email signed by David Tarn. Directory enquiries for David W Tarn gave an address for him that matched that on the website and a telephone number. Whois tied up David W Tarn with Bathroom Envy at the address given on the website.
I eventually got a call back from a man who said he was David Tarn and that their credit card payment gateway was down so could I send a cheque to the address on the website. As far as I was concerned from my searches David W Tarn = DWT plumbing = the website Bathroom Envy = a one-man-band running a business from home just like I have done for the past eight years. This together with the fact that I know where he lives made me comfortable enough to send him a cheque. That's it so far.

Make of this what you will. I think I've stuck my oar in enough.

So, we would have to be ripped off before Admin or the mods removed the thread? :?

If this was the case, I would set up a site and rip off loads of people with pre-orders safe in the knowledge that nothing would happen for a few weeks. Happy days. :santa:

I'm quite sure most people would rather miss out on a deal than lose their money.

We have an almost 100% record in keeping HotUKDeals spam free for all of its existence and the main thing that stops spamming of the forums, is to deal with it before it starts.

Unfortunately the causes of spam are mainly where someone has a self interest or something to gain from posting new deal threads, such as self promotion or referral links and if a new user is unlucky enough to choose an unknown site for their first post, they'll have to accept that we will always act on it using whatever criteria we feel applies to that particular post, website or deal.

FWIW I just posted my first deal and had it pulled for moderation.

I had a nice pm from juliet_bravo explaining that they had to check it out as it was a free money type deal.

I would much rather have my deals scrutinsed than have to deal with spam, scams and other things.

just my 2p.

I agree.

Cappa - if you don't like it, you are free to leave and/or not post deals.

Them there are the rules, stick to them or get out :)
#21
yes, thanks for the constructive comments Viibeone, it must have taken you a long time to come up with that !!
#22
Received the goods today that I ordered on Monday so well pleased.

Posted the deal again but it got pulled due to concerns about the company's legitimacy and service level. Got a nice PM explaining why.

Posted it not only because I think it's a good deal but also because I wanted people to be able to do a search on HukD about Bathroom Envy and see someones experiences with the company - good or bad. If people have the information then they can make up their own minds about whether to risk ordering. Perhaps if this thread can be made to come up after a search for Bathroon Envy it would serve that purpose.

Referee's decision is final as they say and no problem with that. As long as people accept that other people have different points of view I'm happy.

don't you see? i don't have to come up with anything, because it exactly as simple as I suggested.

So what’s the conclusion?

Is there any evidence that Bathroom Envy is untrustworthy?

Is there any evidence that Cappa is connected to Bathroom Envy?

I accept the points made by Rayman and Admin but without a conclusion there is an implication of guilt.

I have just received the goods I ordered from Bathroom Envy. They were exactly as ordered and were delivered within the promised time. The prices were competitive and there were no problems.:)
