Just posted this as a new thread, but then saw another thread afterwards headed 'banned', so put it in here too! Message I posted is below:

Hi, thought I would write a quick thread due to an incident that happened to my partner yesterday to warn other new members!!

She joined as a new member a few days ago & put on a discount voucher, but it kept being removed. She couldn't understand this so kept putting it on again.

Then apparently another user put a reply to it as spam. She followed it up with a reply apparently asking the other user why they had reported it as spam & they said because it was her company. She told the other user that she worked full time etc. although this was none of their business really, but apparently the other user even said where this company was based due to the 'whois' website & as it seemed the company was home based, so they assumed it was her own company, just because she was a new member of this site.

I think you can probably only put on discount vouchers for the big companies, so maybe it was her fault for not putting on one for Argos or something similar? thats all I can assume.

Anyway, due to the other users assumption, she got BANNED from the forum.

This was all due to the one other user who had previously posted a lot of vouchers, battling against a new member to have an innocent discount voucher removed!

Just because some members have been registered a long time & use all their time putting vouchers onto this site, there really is no 'ranking', this is a voucher discount website after all & I therefore dont understand why 'what they say, goes'.

Just give new members a chance!

"Your partner" wasn't banned for this reason.
[mod]#3
She would have been banned with good reason. Now stop the self promo and go away.

This sounds bit fishy to me. We dont ban any users without warning or valid reason to beleive they are profiting from the post. However, if you've any concerns you can always PM Admin :)

100's of new members join everyday and all enjoy a heartly welcome !

Thanks for your reply. From reading other comments on this forum, I saw another one where a user had the same trouble because the company voucher she put on was a company that had a home-based business & they were also assumed to be putting it on for their own company. There are a lot of businesses based at home these days & I think a lot of users of this site assume it must be the owner of that company putting on their own vouchers? thats all I can assume.
#6
If it is the member which I think it is - She posted this FOUR times. She turned off her private messages so no-one could contact her. This is not regular forum behaviour.

EDIT - also banning another multiple ID which is a clear breach of the forum T&Cs - I suggest you all have a read of those.

We don't ban users based on "assumptions".

Enough of the moaning..............when you going to post the voucher again??? :whistling: :-D

Think she posted it 5 times, as they kept getting removed & she couldn't figure out why, so thought she was doing something wrong & kept trying again - as she was new to it all! Not sure what the private message thing is, but she did show me emails in her inbox last night that were the replies from the user who reported her, so maybe they were private messages Im not sure.
#10
She turned off her private messages when she joined the forum. If she wishes, she can email admin on the "contact us" button below to discuss it further.
#11
She apparently contacted them 3 times before & after her vouchers were removed to find out why & got no reply from them. Then found out she had been banned when she tried to log in again.

I will talk to her tonight as she is out at work all day, thats why Im in this conversation & not her, as I thought it was out of order so thought I would follow it up instead.

This is a pretty good website, I first saw it last night, but think people should be treated with a bit of respect & at least receive an email from the website moderator etc. about any problem before just banning them, thats just my opinion - its just another bump in the road - she will get over it, just surprised by it all I think.:?

We dont email anyone and deal only by PM as every member has a PM account. If someone intentinally turns off the PM, how do you expect us to help ? :)
#13
Think there has been a misunderstanding / confusion etc. when she registered, dont even know if Ive got the private message thing enabled on my account - I have to laugh, as I cant believe this is all to do with a discount voucher to be honest :giggle: with all the problems going on all over the world, but anyway, she probably thought that you would send an email to the email address that has to be registered to open an account. I know the name of the user who reported her, but dont like to grass - just think this whole thing may have put her off this forum thing for life!

Very sage....

Me thinks a 'self promotor' with a made up 'partner' is protesting too much :whistling:
#17
There seems to be a pattern here that all you 'solar flares' (whatever they are) get on your high horses & try to trample your hooves on new people - calm yourselves down & get more sleep if you're tired :giggle:

& by the way, dont mention the word 'wife' - never happen to me
[admin]#18
It's not that solar flares try and trample people at all, we've just been here for long enough to know when something seems a bit fishy
We're all friendly and welcoming to new people, but if it looks like a new member is self-promoting then we'll say something, and the mod-team will intervene if needs be.

You shouldn't take it personally :)

Solar flare is someone with over 1000 posts by the way :)

Great quote o wise one!

- Im thinking, is this another epic tale to add to the HUKD 'you got busted' database? :whistling:
#20
you 'solars' should be called the damn busters if you think every new member is self promoting themselves  who has time to post more than 1000 vouchers for goodness sake, get out more :giggle:

that database must be getting huge by now :giggle:
[mod]#22
Don't think i've even posted one voucher. :o

And i can't get out more as Admin has me locked in a dingy room sat upon my high horse with nothing better to do than moan. :p
#23
You solars are really quite funny aren't you - its not good to sit in a cupboard all day though - just a word of advice :giggle:

At least I think my original problem has been sorted, I better just check that I've got the private message thing set on my account otherwise I'll be expelled as quick as a flash by a solar too :santa:

To help you with your Private Message's, click here and scroll down, make sure the enable PM's is ticked :)
#25
She wrote the user name down - he was a solar flare too, he put a reply to her voucher saying reported as spam - god stop doubting everything people say - I know you cant trust everyone, but you have to trust some people in the world! cheer up:)
[mod]#26
PM's are set to receive when you sign up. You have to manually block them. Plus as she got e-mails about her thread she would have needed to subscribe to e-mail alerts.

Sounds to me that 'she' knew exactly what she was doing. :-D
#27
thanks boydent999, just clicked on your link & its got a tick in it - think I'll be ok now if I survive the solars! :giggle:
#28
dinosteveus, you said some members just spam to get a high post count - cant something be done about that?
banned#29
Its like all the self promotors have a handbook in how to self promote and protest when things don't go their way.

Step 1. post self promotion on HUKD
Step 2. have post removed, post again
Step 3. have post removed, post again
Step 4. have post removed, protest against Admin for not allowing self promotion
Step 5. get banned
Step 6. Set self up as different username
Step 7. Self promote innocence by pretending to be partner/wife/uncle/cousin/next door neighbour/bloke that someone once met on the bus of original self promotor.*
Step 8. gets put in place by those that have been here and worn the t-shirt
Step 9. protest against 'solar posters'
Step 10. get banned again/leave the site in disgust/return to step 1 under different username.*

*delete as appropriate

Syzable should post one his 'user guides' on how to NOT self promote on HUKD

If we still had siggies all us 'solar poster' could add this gude in. Perhaps if we ask a mod nicley they'll add this guide on to their siggies :giggle:

Syzable, when you said she knew exactly what she was doing - maybe she did maybe she didnt, obviously there was some confusion when she set up her account.

There's a lot of disbelief in what I'm saying with you solars - wise men lines etc., I appreciate you have a little community - & I'm trying to make light of this situation now, whereas I was quite annoyed at the start not knowing what properly went on last night.

Just cool off about the dishonest thing, no-one likes to be called a liar when they are being honest - agreed!

Christmas is coming :santa:

Nope. :giggle:
Anyway, I'm pi$$ed off with my posts being deleted so I'll leave you to it on this topic.
BTW, how selfish of whoever is Moderating, you quite happily leave the nasty blunt posts on here for everybody to see but delete what you consider O/T.
I know, it suits your purpose that a Member is being nasty to a spammer on here.

For goodness sake, I have removed posts where people were talking about a for sale transaction - NOTHING to do with this thread.

stewartd, I hope you just let this thread plunge to the depths. You seem a decent enough 'guy'? Just enjoy the community and the cracking deals.

I don't believe you, I was just saying give it up, realise your telling off and let this thread go, then go look at some deals, say some thanks then start inputting properly...

Happily ever after!

why do people get their knickers in a twist over this? So she couldnt post a voucher, is she really that upset about it? If she had not of disabled her pm's a mod may of let her know why, when i was first a member i had a few posts removed for various reasons, mainly duplicates but i didnt feel the need to kick up such a fuss. As you say there are more important things so move on :)

many of us members have home based business's and are not allowed to self promote, its not personal.

oh and a few tips for business promotion:

submit regulary to search engines
join banner exchanges
join shopping directories, many are free if you reciprocate a link
business cards, leaflet drops, newspaper ads, window displays

maybe when the business is a bit more well known a customer may one day post it here legitimately
