It compares against the URL that you entered. You also have the option of saying "no, it's not a duplicate".

i know i have that option - i managed to post the deal after all ;)
url alone is obviously rubbish though as was postable for 3 reasons above and i assume could even be overridden if WAS a dupe by saying no so thats another factor which is a bit poor.

It only says that for you to check ,
It would be soon spammed by people if it was a dupe anyway

So the point of this thread is? The system asks "are you sure it's not a duplicate?", you say no and post the deal. What's the problem?

the point is there are 3 reasons that it should never have been asked and 1 (and a half) reason why its pointless anyway. ill go over them again.
    1. suggested deal was over 4 weeks old so even if it was identical to a previous thread the correct answer is no.
checking urls under 4 weeks would eliminate this question.
    2. the suggested deal was expired - if its no longer a deal then why suggest it.
checking non-expired deals would eliminate this question.
    3. the suggested deal was 33% more expensive than my own deal. if a deal is significantly different in price it can be reposted under 4 weeks. 33% is significant.
checking they are a different price and perhaps a relative price comparison would go some way to removing this (i guess a arbitrary figure would have to be used so this debatable)

    reasons its pointless
    1. people that are too stupid to search are probably going to say no anyway, spamming relies on multiple people spamming and sometimes it takes days to remove a deal.
if perhaps moved to a moderation queue a quick look would show what was duplicate or not.
1 and a half. from point 1 above a 'duplicate' doesn't mean its not allowed to be reposted.

point isn't 'clicking is too hard', its 'clicking is too stupid'.

Correct that for you "PO is too stupid"

...you've overexerted yourself i see... check yourself for a nose bleed please.

deek72, problem is - it didn't need to be asked.
did you get a 'do you wish to view this thread?' prompt when trying to look in this thread? would it be a problem?
sure it would be simple to do.. but it would also be unnecessary.

Divide all that you've typed in this thread by how much effort to click 'not dupe' and work out how much extra work your gripe has cost you ;)

ah but then thats a selfish view, the time spent here is nothing compared to all the time saved by all the people not needing to press a button for a stupid reason.
i get your point though ofc :)

    I am beginning to wish I hadn't! ;)

Seriously, though, you both have valid points.

Should a "Deal" listing within the last four weeks, that has subsequently been marked as expired, sharing the same hyperlink address, price within the tolerance range, & was, in fact, the same product, be automatically reactivated if somebody attempts to re-list with the same criteria?

    *sniff* *wipes tear*

automatic reactivation wouldn't work as retailers such as play and thehut do alot of "yessir-gen-u-ine-one-day-only-specials" which are then repeated the next week.
ofc if thehut and play were banned that would be a step forward....

example of either stupid user or url match fail

    with http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/alien-anthology-blu-ray-4-disc-boxset-9-97-delivered-amazon-1177656#comments
the goto links appear identical but if they are not then that just shows again why url matching is not best way to get a match

brilly. I have exactly the same mindset as you but, as evidenced above, some people just don't "get it". I give up in humanity. We try to make life better for everyone but they are stuck in their neanderthal ways.

If it was recently listed, expired then reactivated, members may stumble across it if browsing by New.

If it received loads of heat before being expired and reactivated, members may stumble across it if browsing by Hot.

I'd think most deals wouldn't meet either of these criteria and the reactivated deal would be missed by most HUKDers unless they happened to be searching for that specific product.
