they get posted because there are CERTAIN users who will do ANYTHING for heat, dont care if its already in misc as a heads up,dont care if they have just ripped other peoples info off-glad to see the mods are cracking down a bit on it tho-it isnt a deal unless an actual product can be mentioned with a price.

Pretty much sums it up.............:)

Some of the deals in the deal section are laughable - there are even ones advising people to bargain with suppliers for better deals for Sky, mobile phones, insurance, xbox live and most of the times its just pot luck if the operator you speak to gives you the deal.....

One user constantly posts stuff like this just copied and pasted from MSE - shouldn't be a deal and the amazon one was a total joke - no details of what was included and others had posted first

Agreed (and I think most people know who you mean, Colin!). While I don't doubt the good natured intent of these posters, if the site's remit becomes what any individual subjectively perceives to be what could potentially "help someone out," then ultimately uncontrolled swathes of spam will render the board functionally useless.

Plenty of genuine deals (best price for a specific, widely available item) will not gain a huge amount of heat due to their esoteric or niche subject, so sorting by 'heat' cannot solve this issue.

All that is needed is more definitive guidelines that can be effectively policed.

it isnt a deal hence the reason they nearly all go really cold

if you spot one, just vote it cold. People will soon get the message.

Thanks for above, nice to see i'm not the only one who thinks this - can we have a MOD's view on this ?

bump?

MODS don't have views.........they are locked away in rooms without windows. :D

Problem is that too many users aren't bothered about deals/community as such, they just think it's great to get heat on deals.

Big windows here oO

As for pre-sale hype, I think the members here have already formed a view for the future, however there is certainly some merit for certain threads remaining where the community can share in advance announcements Sales with reference to specific items with a price are likely to be well received.

With regards to retention type announcements, these are more 'misc' type threads which are not applicable to all. More often than not, misc is a better home where tactics can be shared between members. One of the issues we have to deal with is when a thread soars in temp, it's as if the members have given blessing to the deal and may explain our reluctance to move some that appear to have been miscategorised.

Many thanks re above, i have been on this site for sometime and have noticed a certain trend of late towards items like this as soon as you here a whisper it's on here. Which i agree it should perhaps be Misc/(Rumour!) threads. People want to save ££ and get a good deal, though of late there does seem to be a minute amount of "users" who post absolute junk/hype when like others i think they just want attention.

I have though already of posting Boxing Dale Sale date thread, Air (you breathe) is free and other such but will not steep that low!.

I thank the mods on here who do a craking job, but feel all this pre able stuff could perhaps be written into the "rule book" as to where it should be posted...

thanks to all who read and keep up the HUKD
