1) Don't deal via PM as per the rules.
2) You should have got a landline number and confirmed it before sending money as per the rules.

Now I have a bit of sympathy for the people who don't read the rules and don't bother getting a phone number. However, theres no excuse for not having 2 braincells to rub together and send money to anyone who happens to PM you asking you to. Can you send me a fiver my way as well? I'll send you a amazon code or summut.

Ridiculous. You got what you deserved and should get no help whatsoever.

Suggest you check the FS rules.

You didn't do the deal in the thread, per the rules, so I think you're pretty much stuffed. A mod, or Forum helper might assist you in contacting the other party, but you need to read the rules and follow them properly.

Fully agree with VB1 btw

Hi wee123

Caveat Emptor.
Do NOT proceed with a deal until you are completely satisfied with all details being correct. It’s in your best interest to check out these details yourself. The trading forums are the equivalent to a newspaper’s classified section, We cannot be held responsible nor can we vouch for any listings or sales/trades in this forum. Use your head, follow the guidelines, evaluate the risk and make your own decision.

Always follow the Trading Advice in full for agreed trades and prior to payment.

All buyers and sellers should satisfy themselves that either party is genuine by providing and verifying the following via PM to each other:

* Landline telephone number – make a CALL to check out the area code and number are correct. Consider using the BT Directory or 192.com to verify.
* Name and address including postcode. Consider verifying via 192.com
* Valid e-mail address.
* If you’re using PayPal, check to see if the seller has eBay feedback. You can also make a small payment to and from each other to validate the PayPal e-mail address
* Only buy from Verified PayPal Members if possible

Do NOT proceed with a deal until you are completely satisfied with all details being correct. It’s in your best interest to check out these details yourself.

Sales negotiations must take part within the respective thread.
Dealing by PM or email is not allowed. Personal details should not be added to any listings.

We have these rules / guidelines in place to protect members - there is not a lot we can do if you opt to dismiss the guidelines and deal via PM.

I have passed information on to aScottishBloke though and I expect he will be in touch

It's not difficult to find out.

I am vaguely concerned that negative feedback was able to be left, when 'officially' no deal was done. is this OK?

Um generally speaking if the seller runs off with your money, you leave neg feedback, regardless whether a deal was done.

Whether dealing via PM should result in feedback... thats more tricky.

So it's possible to leave feedback regardless of whether you've actually (officially) dealt with that person? What stops you from randomly negging people (or conversely leaving feedback for mates to boost their profile...)? I'm not saying the OP was wrong to neg them, I'm just curious about how it was able to happen, it surprised me, is all.

Its not like ebay - yes you can do exactly what you suggested - but the mods won't be happy :P

Its not tricky. Feedback shouldn't be left, no trade is in the thread. However, if an unsolicited PM with offer of sale was sent, ban the member who sent it. Its about time the site started doing this; zero tolerance on trading via pm would be a step in the right direction...

£12 for 2100 points?
If a deal looks too good to be true, it usually is.
#16
The same person sent me a PM with an offer for some MS points. I didn't take him up on it, so I've got no way of reporting him. Might be worth someone giving him a bit of a slap though.

If anyone does this in future, use the contact us button or report to a mod/forum helper for review.

People offering things away from the forum will not be tolerated.

Wee123,

I don't think you can go around calling anyone else naive, especially when they are trying to point out facts, You appear to be the one who's naive whilst choosing to ignore the trading rules and advice.

It's a tough lesson, however you should never agree a deal via PM when there is an existing trade thread. You will have to discuss this directly with the former member in question. Hopefully you have at least obtained and verified the details you should have exchanged. The other member in question has been banned,

Yes, the multi was banned, although claimed to be the partner. Regardless, the household won't be permitted any further trades. I'll see if we can lock down accounts further subject to a full ban (whilst a dispute is open). I'll explore the possibility of removing the rights to PM (send and receive) whilst a dispute is claimed.

i had a pm of totton 32 who said he paid 10pound to the guy and he never received his item or his money back i was wrong to do deal in pm i hold my hands up and im sorry if ive offended anybody in this thread i just wanted advice on what i should do and everybody jumped on me stating the obvious blaming me but he shouldnt be aloud to do it to other ppl that is why i said something about it i honestly didnt know how to contact any mods and i had to put a reply to one of his threads to put a negative comment coz i didnt want him robbing other people

Feedback is only applicable for trades agreed in the thread. Deals conducted away from the thread are not eligible for feedback, however concerns regarding such deals/issues should be reported to the mods for further consideration.

So perhaps TOTTON32 should have left negative feedback to put other people off.I'm still struggling to understand how you know he has scammed a lot of people.Did you know this information before or after you dealt with him?
he pmd me after and told me about the 10 pound he paid and i dont know why he didnt give him negative feedback and what i actually ment by him scamming a lot of ppl was i went on his profile and looked at some of his threads(after it all happened) and on some of his threads pll have wrote to him saying where is my item i paid you but where is it that is what i ment

Confirmed with 'buyer' that a refund was made as a result of PayPal intervention.
