I dont either but when i click new i keep seeing these posts as i was writing this i looked in on the new tab to try and figure where this should be posted and at the very top was one of these posts and they had even put a link to there own web site and last night someone posted a link to a company in India who's sole purpose was to get people to go on forums and post spam links to stuff for sale.

If admin cant keep on top of it make me an admin and i will remove them instantly as i regularly pop on this site as i have done since 06

happens a lot and im suprised scottish bloke hasnt commented on this tbh as he runs the fs/ft section

i think it would put a few off especially the oportunists, but the hardcore scammers wouldnt be affected tho especially for the more expensive items .....although the hukd mob are generally clued up and can spot a scam from 100 paces....and i cant actually recall sthe last time omebody being scammed for a larger amount

tends to be users with quite a few posts and sort of established where the problems generally lie
#7
..............I completely agree!
The site is primarily meant for highlighting genuine bargains that are available to the general public..................not as an alternative to 'fleabay'!:x

Are they likely to sell anything with lack of 'credibility', suppose they will to some if it looks tempting enough

It's more surprising, I think, as Ebay are not charging insertion fees @ the mo

Just a few thoughts..

thats what I was thinking. Once they realise they have to post first then they never get a sale anyway. Ebay still charge 10% FVF and then paypal fees on top and its full of scammers these days.

The 10 posts rule wont work as that can easily be achieved in a few mins by posting hello in a few threads.

Not if as I've said the posts cant be made in one day it should be a week before the sale or trade is allowed so 10 posts that are not spam hello posts must be made over the 7 days.

As for people not buying when they see 0 posts and just joined i can except that but HUKD has a lot of members of all ages and a lot of these have no clue so they are easily sucked in. Just lately I'm not just seeing sales I'm seeing spam posts people offering links to make money and links to there own sites where they can exploit someone whos not aware of these scams. It only takes someone who's not clued up to take a link to one of these sites and before they know it there's a £1000 out of there bank as they have stole there details.

Been discussed a million and one times already, this discussion needs it own tag.

I think members should follow the For Sale/Tade rules and guidelines, that way they will not be scammed.

I also haven't seen a single report(not saying it hasn't happened) where a member has had £1000 stolen from their account. If they had, they would just as easily be scammed by a Nigerian e-mail that has found it's way to their inbox.
#12
I dont think that being a member a week and only making 10 posts is the answer as that can easily be achieved.
Also, if i wanted to sell something, i wouldnt mind waiting a week and making a few posts to be able to save the fees on fleabay.
I agree with what you're saying but it needs to be much more.
I think being a member for at least a month and having to have made 100 posts would be much better and that way there's more chance they'd make some sort of decentcontribution to the forum (through their 100 posts).
#13
i agree with magough that minimum of 100 posts and a member of at least a month should be the minimum, however this wont stop some people being conned and the feedback system is really a good system. No feedback then you must deliver first....

While I think you are trying to make a valid point for discussion OP, there needs to be some clear direction in what you want to discuss/debate.

On the basis of the title "People joining just to flog stuff" then I disagree entirely, I joined to use the FS/FT to see if it was worthwhile, since then I am a regular user of all forums...but that is through me taking the time to find out what the whole site can offer me. If someone wants to join only to sell stuff then I see nothing wrong with that provided they are geniune, which the vast majority of them are.

Like many things on this site, and especially with the FS/FT, common sense should prevail when someone wants to part with their cash or goods up front. If the person or persons dont know how to use common sense then there are FS/FT guidelines which everyone should read when considering buying/selling on the FS/FT forum. This will help to minimise any fraud or disappointment. Failing that post in Misc and ask the regular users for advice.

Re the instances where "they had even put a link to there own web site and last night someone posted a link to a company in India " - you will always get that happening on websites that allow posts, especially FS/FT forums....thats why we have expire, spam, report buttons and moderators. More than enough to deal with those cases which are few and far between in comparison to the legit posts.

There are no site rules that exclude a person from joining other than age. Excluding sections of users based on opinion could be deemed as discriminatory, defamatory and only fuels hatred, and serves no purpose at all other than to satisfy the basis of that persons pychosis......most popular one is racism....

Lets not exclude people just because someone deems them unsuitable. Exclude them based on their actions and how they treat the site, the users and the community.

then click the spam button. these get spotted pretty quickly imo

I don't think there is really anything wrong with a new member joining up to use the FS/FT forum. I'm sure quite a few will have been 'lurkers' for a while anyway and I also reckon a lot of well established members probably initially joined to use that forum, then blossomed into fully fledged deal-contributers and active forum members. Thats not to say extra caution shouldn't be used on new members trading, but everyone has got to start somewhere! :)
#19
at the end of the day its an open forum, and with regards to ebay fees etc, items on here sell at a more reasonable price compared to ebay so its 6 and half a dozen

What happened to you DC - you just spout utter rubbish these days.

Did someone leave you in a car over the summer or something?

There are no rules to say this can't happen, so why not?
Some people just use Misc, some only deals but do new members get frowned upon then?
If everyone sticks to the rules, I don't see a problem. When I first joined, I was scared to post in Misc, as a newbie seems a bit full on, people know each other and things can get jumped upon very quickly. I think I started in FS too. I don't see why everyone that starts in FS is frowned upon, if the rules are followed, whats the problem?

The more you use the site, the more you feel comftable with moving around it and posting in different sections, 98% this is the case.

You are one of a very small number and likes been said even if you could'nt of sold the item you would of still posted so your not really the people that im getting at. As for not wanting new members thats not the case sites die without new members and although 99% are genuine its the other 1% that need removing.

I joined Ebay,bought items,then sold items,then used their forums,go figure:roll:

If people are only joining HUKD to sell their tat, maybe they should be required to provide further details before being allowed to post?
ie, address, phone number, ebay history etc.

Repped. Great post :)

If you were going to stop people selling stuff on here before they had contributed the best way would be to get them to post at least 5 or 10 hot deals before selling.

Personally I don't think there is the need for any regulation, it is obvious when someone has just joined to flog stuff because of their post count and these users probably don't sell much. Also the price you get for something on here is often not as high as on auction sites because the very nature of HUKD means that members like a bargain.
#30

They would just say that they are not joining solely to sell/buy.

There are many members that haven't posted 5 or 10 hot deals in all the years they've been here. Do you suggest that they would be stopped from using the FS/FT forum?

Note to Admin: Just have a common sense declaration on sign up. :)

No, if you read the rest of my post I suggest that there is no need for regulation. My point, however, is that post count is not a particularly good indicator of how much a member contributes.
#33
Isn't the OP basically asking for an "exlude FS FT" button on search? That way they can get on with browsing the rest of the site and the people who want to sell stuff can get on with....well......selling stuff (or not, as the case may be if they have low post count / feedback).

im a newbie (ish) and i first started on the fs/ft board, just because i was new doesnt mean i was out to scam people, i know some do, but please dont tar us all with the same brush, the majority of us are just out to make a few £ :)
#35
Haha so you basically want the fs/ft removing? If people are joining to only sell items then so be it. I don't see how that's a problem and I don't blame them for wanting to avoid ebay fees, isn't that a 'bargain' or a 'deal' in it's own right? :) This is no longer a website primarily used for posting/viewing deals.
