  • Petition Discussion - 700 and counting - admins too ARROGANT to listen to their public

vibeone, posted 4 years, 5 months ago
Yes there are millions of other threads. Deal with it.

Currently the petition is at 700 and counting - give or take a few due to double posts. However, still the management is too arrogant to even post an update.

    Sign here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/125162/petition-bring-back-the-old-site-no/all/feedback/discussed/
Only sign your forum name - keep comments in this thread seperate.

I know full well that change happens. I know 'web 2.0' is the in thing. I don't even have a problem with it.

However, to remove functionality (such as the forum behaving like a forum) is beyond belief.

    Please:

    1) Revert to the old site over christmas and the new year, and bring the new look back WHEN ITS READY.

    2) Build the standard vBulletin functionality, navigation and editor into the new site. Make the forum behave like a forum, and maintain the original deals lists and options on the front page.

    That is all I request.

(This thread is for discussion on the admins refusal to comment on either the site or the 700 members who want the old site back - so we can keep discussion out of the main petition thread)

JUST MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A FORUM!!!

obviously 700 odd people with nothing better to do!!
Why don't you just drop it, it's getting boring!!

well its open to discussion and 700 people who have opnions that want to be heard

    - if its boring then dont click the thread to read it as the title is self explantory.

I know there are soo many threads on this topic but at the moment the deals are not coming through as much as before so at least this keeps a little entertainment going.

At first I did not like the change and posted so on the forum but I have got used to it now and think its an improvement.
With a little effort you can soon learn to use the site in a better way than the old one/

You can still view the site like a forum.

click on the type of deal at the very top and then click on text view on the right hand side.

    Thanks

may be you should spend less time setting up the new site is **** forums and actually look around, i think you'll find it has a lot of improved features, its just a bit buggy, it will be sorted soon enough

Its a good update, looks more professional and after a bit of use it is BETTER!!

1% of the total user base, yeah like the mods are going to change a site back for 1%.

As usual it's the minority shouting above the majority to try and force the issue when there is no issue to force!!!

There is the odd bug or room for improvement but the site is free.

Well done mods, great site and now you can see any feedback a seller has in the for sale/wanted section which is a very welcome addition.

Out of curiosity - no dig intended I promise- why doesn't it feel like a forum to you? Perhaps if you can put your finger on the reason it could be sorted.

The changes here are nothing to do with 'Web 2.0' jeez it's just a BBS, badly designed and poorly implemented.

    Nothing new here !

vBulletin, is an expensive piece of software, which has been designed well, and copied at least in part by almost all forum software. it just works. this doesnt really resemble a forum anymore - but i admit its improving since yesterday

i'm not suggesting it is a democracy? I dont really get your point, since it just says what I already knew - of course people should give feedback, because if they didnt listen or want it, everyone would leave.

please could you let me know what point you are making and then ill respond?

i think the telling remarks in that post are the following:

If I don't listen to the life of the site then one day I may think everyone on the site wants only cold deals on the front page or everyone who starts with "B" wants to be banned, take this action, and then end up losing all the members as they take off somewhere else.

    and

Further, the implicit agreement between members and myself is that there is an expectation I will make decisions that are positive for the site as a whole. If I fail to do this then members can exercise their power and leave. This means that sometimes a member may really really really passionately believe in their idea or criticism but I may decide not to follow that advice/criticism. As the decisions are made for the site on a whole as judged by myself this may be frustrated for an individual, however they still have their right to exercise which is (a) trust the judgement of myself or (b) leave the site.

i.e. if the site hasn't improved considered in a day or two people should consider voting with their 'feet' and going elsewhere (MSE for example) as then, and only then, would it seem that the Admin may listen.
I've already stopped visiting as often, and i'm sure the Admin will see that page impressions have fallen and i'm sure the number of 'clicks' through the various affiliate programs will have dropped considerably. Perhaps when it starts hurting financially they may have a little bit of a rethink about it.

reduce that number by the number of regular HDUK forums users then you will have a more realistic percentage, oh dear.

Also how many members signed the 'we like the new design thread'??????

I am all for improvement and inevitable changes with new programming and technology advances. BUT it has to be implemented correctly!
This is a terrible website now, and if the intranet at my workplace had been changed as badly as this, there would be potential industrial action!
Although there are going to be many who find it easy to use. But this will be outweighed by a greater number who feel alienated.
The whole concept of this site was for people from all walks of life to easily post and comment on their deals and findings easily. This made all people of varying computer literacy able to join in and contribute. This site as it is will confuse many, and people will just stop using it! This means that the amount of people finding deals etc will decrease which seems to kill off the whole concept of its existance! The people who easily use this version will skew the deals towards their section of interests (computers and consoles etc) and almost wipe out the more domestic and less technical posts and information.
My advice....Put it back as it was until you get it right!
