I agree ,you could say the same for individual items being posted from for example -Tesco or Argos Sales . The Tesco Garden and outdoor 30% off sale was posted last week - then we had 30 or 40 ( at least !) individual items from that sale posted every day clogging up the site and doubtless keeping much more deserving deals from prominence .

I concur, it should not be listed as a deal, only price savings on its subscription cost should, not monthly changes on content.
#3
I agree, these so called 'deals' are nothing more than blogs and should be in Misc. The real problem is that the OPs won't post in Misc because they say they would be missed. Isn't this an issue that HUKD need to address?

It's just one post, ignore it and move on, the multiple posts for one code is annoying though!
#5
It's not one post though is it? It's one post every month which gains incredible heat (this month's is over 1000!) so therefore overshadows other deals posted at a similar time. This forum is for feedback and I thought I would share mine, no need to tell me to essentially get over it.

I said this in this month's thread and I'll repeat it here - if I posted a deal for a new TV show available on Netflix people would complain that it isn't a deal because Netflix always puts new shows up, it would be voted cold or deleted. PS+ is exactly the same so why are those deals valid and 'hot'?

It would be interesting knowing exactly what the persons who are hitting the heat button are actually heating up.

. Playstation Plus as a whole (regardless of savings on the subscription).
. The monthly content and what they feel regarding it.
. Just the plain fact someone posted it on HUKD and it saved them looking at the Sony EU Blog.
2 Likes #7
I think a large section of those voting hot are probably Sony fanboys who are taking the opportunity to 'promote' their console and the service it offers. Before the days of Games with Gold the PS+ service was one that could legitimately be bragged about and that seems to have lasted even now that Xbox has a comparable service. It's like having a post for a PS4 for RRP and everyone voting hot because it's a better 'deal' than an Xbox One for the same price because the GPU is better. Total nonsense.

With many it's just a pre determined response triggered by the sight of this months offerings irrespective of whether they are any good or not. :)

Just wanted to point out to jez777 that posting a question in feedback does not guarantee a response from the mods. In delicate situations like this they favour silence and hope that the thread fizzles out. :)

Can't do any harm! Also hopefully it changes some people's minds about posting these deals in future (very unlikely)

On many Feedback threads (without initial mod input) we allow members to discuss (on topic) how they'd like HUKD to deal with their content. It is helpful for us to get an understanding of what the community want in these situations so we can make a decision.

Anyway, we will review the suggestions in here as soon as we can. Any other suggestions/comments about this please post away.

Thanks ... One of the reasons people post in deals when they should technically be in Misc is because they think that the post would be overlooked. I know from experience that Misc is a real mixture and gets clogged up by a lot of banal posts. Perhaps a solution may be to try and clean up and raise the profile of Misc or perhaps have a separate section for things like PS Plus monthly updates or indeed any updates to subscription services.
#16
PS+ is a monthly rotating deal (membership itself) and titles may intrigue otherwise uninterested/unsubscribed members. It happened with me last month and I would've been unaware without the deal posted. The subject's popular, too, as Steam's Summer sales and not exactly obscure as say, weekly deals on socks with novelty designs.

magicjay, just wanted to say please don't make a decision based soley on the response from this post. Feedback, like Misc is not really high profile, look at the number of comments against most of the other posts in Feedback to see that! If you look purely at the facts I am sure that you can see that this monthly post isn't a deal but a monthly discussion about what is available this month on PS Plus. Id o think that there could be a place on HUKD for these types of discussions but it certainly isn't in Deals.

I think a simple solution would be to introduce proper forums in place of the Misc section which could have separate sub forums for things like video games, movies/TV, forum games (ex. here) off topic etc. It could also incorporate the current Ask section if it was successful enough. I realise this would be a lot of work but this is something the site could work towards. We have a large community here now and the Misc section is largely ignored by many due to the fact everything is bundled together.

We already have categories in Misc though?

I was not aware of that! Disregard my suggestion then because it's essentially already a forum in that case
[mod]#22
When we get calls for threads to be moved to Misc and we need to make a decision, usually you can count those request for it to be moved on one hand. Voting is integral to HUKD so if the community are voting on something and its "doing well" you could say that they are happy with it and it being where it is?

Misc is a catchall for anything that isn't a deal or a direct question. It isn't instantly recognisable as a place for 'proper' discussion and a lot of the content is trivial and somewhat banal. I also think that is a clique in Misc and that may put a lot of people off.
I take your point about there already being discussion groups for things like gaming but that isn't instantly obvious. Question... why wasn't the PS Plus thread moved into this group?

I hear that reasoning a lot from mods but the fact is that this is a deals site and the PS Plus post is not a deal. The fact that a lot of people have voted doesn't make it a deal ... this post goes hot every month irrespective of what's on offer, without wanting to sound derogatory there is a somewhat sheep mentality where PS Plus is concerned :)
The fact is that the majority of people commenting and voting would still comment if it was a forum... it doesn't need to be a deal

The problem as I see it is although these monthly updates have the potential to be valid deals, they are rarely posted as such. A subset of the HUKD community who are already invested in the Sony infrastructure, who already know what PS+ is and how much it costs etc, post these deals for themselves to discuss amongst themselves.

They're usually not written in a way that is of any benefit to the 'layman'. As such they are better suited to misc. To remain in deals they should be forced to provide a bare minimum of pricing information and a summary of terms, simply listing which games have been added or taken away isn't good enough.

This is a post that I made on the 'deal' itself ... I think it sums it up quite well..

The debate over whether the games or the service is a deal rages every month... the following taken from Sony's FAQ is pretty clear, it's the subscription service that is the deal not the games on offer. We don't see the same posts each month for other subscription services such as Netflix so why is there a need to post this one each month. It's about time HUKD moved it to it's rightful place in Misc.

What is PlayStation Plus?
PlayStation®Plus is a subscription service that enhances your existing free Sony Entertainment Network account and helps you to get the most out of your PS4™, PS3™ and PlayStation®Vita systems.
PlayStation Plus is available to purchase in all countries that have access to PlayStation®Store.

What are the benefits?
When you become a member of PlayStation Plus, you will have access to premium gaming features and special offers on content for your PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems.

Although you could say that the same could be said for Netflix, Now TV, Spotify, Amazon Instant and countless other subscription services. The subscription is the deal ie PS+ 12 months for however much. The rest is the content of that deal. Any news on games added should be placed in misc. Any deals on the price of PS Plus in deals.

An O2 mobile telephone contract is a subscription service.

Does that mean O2 Priority Moments "Deals" are also considered as part of the related content?

Actually no as you can get those free. Not technically a subscription service. Pay as you go also gets those. Although yeah I would say those should go in misc aswell. Think they mostly get posted in freebies at the moment rather than deals though :)

Maybe it would if all posts in deals for ps+ were added to it and the people posting were told where their deal had gone and why.

majicjay ... If fanpages has already set up a thread for these updates and this thread is still live wouldn't it make sense to have all of these monthly 'deals' for PSN updates moved into the thread each time they're posted in deals?

Thanks for the discussion above all. I've had a proper read through and also checked out the previous listings for PlayStation Plus Updates. Right now they are fine to stay in deals.

It happened with me last month and I would've been unaware without the deal posted. The subject's popular, too, as Steam's Summer sales and not exactly obscure as say, weekly deals on socks with novelty designs.

HUKD is a community which votes on what they want to see. If something is getting shared in the deals section and we are having many people voting hot on it it is clear they want to see this content and they are happy with it where it is. Balance this with the fact that this is just one thread a month for these updates.

I just want to pick a few points out that have been made above:

I said this in this month's thread and I'll repeat it here - if I posted a deal for a new TV show available on Netflix people would complain that it isn't a deal because Netflix always puts new shows up, it would be voted cold or deleted. PS+ is exactly the same so why are those deals valid and 'hot'?

I think that is all about the content being made available. If it is voted cold, it is the community that has voted it cold. At times it is quite tricky being able to deal with something if a high % of the community are happy seeing something in deals and there are also one or two calls for it to be in Misc. I know what is coming... "Have some set requirements and stick to them and be consistent". It isn't always that easy. You could count the requests for some threads to be moved on one hand but you've got hundreds of people voting it hot because they like what they see. We are always happy to review something and we will do so even if there is just one call for it to be considered for moving.

In my opinion, anyone that has Playstation Plus or is interested in getting it would know what games are available to them anyway

See the quote above from Alethia.

Anything i've missed or any thoughts?

*sigh* I have read through everyones suggestions and objections and ignored them and stuck to the original statement I gave. Because this is a console fanboys site that votes anything console hot nothing will be changing and we will stick with making a special case for them. Instead of putting it in the correct section.

So if somebody posts a Netflix movie and it gets heat it is fine to stay ?

Any responses on my feedback thread yet about how sale dates are now allowed as a deal ? Another special case ?
