Don't you just click the view option to 'full details' rather than 'text only'? I have full details and can see the 1st few lines of the post...

^^ Yeh I can only look at it in Text Only, its less horrendous than the full view. Go to virtually any other forum, when you hover the mouse you can see the post...

yeah i know what you mean, and if i hear one person say " if you do this it will look like the old site" im going to throw myself under a bus. Nothing you do will make it look like the old site, it has gone, end of. Admin seems more interested in hearing what can be added than fixing this balls up called a forum

Well hope he listens and puts the preview back on, makes the text size smaller and makes each post more defined by changing the white/grey skin - then it may be like how it was before!

yep this is a vital feature. would love to see this added to the new site, saves a lot of time and hassle.

Will see about adding this - not sure how it works.

Can I ask for info though - what do you find useful about the hover to view as compared to full view? If you're in full view you can see the whole first post displayed. Is it because text view is more compact?

Just to throw an idea out... what if in text view it had an expand button and when you hit it would dynamically expand to show the whole first post in that space (without reloading the page).

Exactly, it is more compact, and i only have to look at a preview of topics i want a preview of

I would say keep it as a mouse hover. Simpler to implement and cross broswer compatible ;)

Presumably yeah - the figure it out bit is for the dev guys to get us that info and cut it out. Might already be in the xml though...so that would be easy.

Yeah, shouldn't be too tricky as i believe the hover title preview is a native feature of vB. Cant remember, been ages since i did any vB modding.

if it isn't a native feature, then i guess for a forum view, post content would not be requested from the DB, so it may need to be added.

Useful feature though, i think the slight bandwidth hit is well worth it

How is this progressing(If at all)?

If you have firefox, try the cooliris addon as this puts a blue icon on the end of each hyperlink and if you hover over that it quickly pops up a frame with the contents of the thread in.

Excellent add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2207

Cooliris Previews gives you the power to browse and share Web links and rich media faster. Just mouse over any link, and the Cooliris preview window immediately appears to show you the content. To email it, just click. * Preview web links, images, and videos without even clicking. * “Stack” previewed items into temporary bookmarks to quickly preview later. * Instantly send links to friends and family with just a click. * Automatically subsearch Google, Wikipedia, and many others by right-clicking on any phrase * Customize preferences to control preview window activation, time delay, size & position, etc. Cooliris Previews is free to download and use, and does not contain any adware or spyware.

Nice add on. Seems quite slow to me though... takes as long as it would to click through I think.

Yes it does as it has to load the thread. Still better than opening loads of windows just to see whats in them.

It keeps popping up with the little thing when I go to vote hot on deals... in my way, think I will remove add-on :)

you just have to be quicker on very small links by clicking them quickly rather than hovering over them.

I actually find on many vb forums this feature is disabled as people find it irritating, by the time the hover text has come up I can be in the thread and reading the text properly....if it's nothing of interest just hit back.
