The mods try to add them in when I see them... all we can do at the minute is to try to educate members on posting etiquette. A helpful reply in the thread, and the user will usually try to comply :)

Whether there is a technical solution or not, is up to admin to comment on.

We appreciate that the mods take time to reply and add the details to the title.
We used to be able to edit the 1st post ourselves, perhaps that facility could be bought back in?

It was very useful to add additional info as well i.e Quidco, which in turn helped 'getting the most from the deal' at the start of the thread, rather it being scattered throughout the thread and probably missed by most on the longer threads.

I think the problem is that when you are submitting it seems like the retailer will be in the title by filling in the boxes but then ...it isn't!!

That's a good and valid point really, the first action in posting a deal is to actually type the Retailers name in.

I've done some database work, so forgive me if I sound ignorant... but surely it has to be quite easy for it to be implemented, so the data you enter into the fields when posting a deal gets entered into the title automatically?

product name:
online/instore:
merchant:
price:
cashback: yes/no

@< +cashback>

example

product name: Tinned Beans
online/instore: instore
merchant: UK Supermarkets
price: £0.53
cashback: no

Tinned Beans instore @ UK Supermarkets £0.53

Don't let the user enter a title, the website does it itself based upon data entered.

Perhaps other option could be enabled depending on the item. So when you select entertainment, you must enter DVD, XBOX360, PC etc This info is then added to the begining of the title...

example
[XBOX360] Halo 10 online @ UK Entertainment £29.93 + Cashback

I was expecting something like this to of been added into the great revamp actually...

It would make things easier to read, and cut out a lot of work for the staff of the site

You should be able to do that still?

Personally I'm kind of split on your solution PennyPincher as my one concern is that it would take some of the personal "feel" out of the site. I like that when you read it you can tell it's really people recommending stuff and not some machine.

Now at the same time it needs to be functional though! One thought was we could check if the title has the same number as the Price box in it already and if not we could add it to the end.

I guess the personal feel is good, but sometimes you have to sacrifice things like this once the site has matured.

Also I've noticed a fair few times recently.. people have submitted the same deal over the course of a few minutes, two or three times. Is there a way for the site to stop you doing this, similar what we have with posts/messages (stopping you posting the same thing twice and within a time period etc)

Developer has just done a site update, and it looks like you can now add to other people's deals. I did a quick test, and I think it's ok, but if you see any problems, we'd be grateful if you'd let us know. Many thanks!
#19
Yes, it works. :)

I didn't edit anything, but it opened up the deal to allow me to.

Would be great if we could also add to the title though, may free up some of the time for the mods.

I agree, but it does seem like there aren't so many "bad2 titles lately, or are the mods a lot quicker?

I don't spend that much time in the "Deals" section though.

I have added "tags" to quite a few deals since the change.

[XBOX360] Halo 10 online @ UK Entertainment £29.93 + Cashback

I would prefer this as it would make it a lot easier to read and search (+[XBOX360] to show all xbox stuff) but surely this could be an option that the user can choose... either show the personal titles or titles made from the fields entered on the deals.

PS: I would have the auto generated titles!

PPS: Id also have "[XBOX360] Halo 10 @ UK Entertainment (Online) £29.93 + £x.xx Quidco
