Why are the Feedback thread titles being changed to Proper Case (initial letter of each word in Upper Case)?

Also, in some cases "Bug" thread titles are being re-worded.

Is one of the Forum Helpers bored?

Thanks for your clarification.

Please Can This Be Extended To Inside Threads As Its Awesome And Not At All Annoying

It was just one of the helpers having a tidy up, don't think it's too big a deal in all honesty but we've asked helpers to leave feedback threads as they are from now on.

Well, it isn't a problem as such; it just looked like a waste of somebody's time if it was not an automated process. Also the second time feedback threads have been 'touched' unnecessarily (after the initial expiring of threads that were still in need of discussion/resolution).

I would sooner see effort put into investigating the problems reported &/or feedback in the threads on progress to resolution.

However, I also could not find two of my threads (by searching) because their respective titles had been changed from my original listings. I have changed them back now (as I referred to them in other threads so that when the links are clicked it is obvious the reader has reached the correct thread).

Thanks for your reply in any respect.

Helpers aren't really able to investigate problems reported FP, they have the same access and permissions as members other than a couple of extra tools for them to manage and housekeep threads. The helper in question was trying to housekeep and tidy up b/c that's what they like doing.. it's one of the reasons we asked them onto the team.

I am not looking to make a problem, j_b, but "helping" is one thing (asking questions/requesting further information in “For Sale / Trade” threads, closing old threads where appropriate, re-bumping voucher codes, saying 'thanks', & so on), but changing the character case & re-wording established feedback threads is just "messing" in my opinion.

I appreciate it may seem worthwhile to the member that likes doing that, & I can certainly empathise with having the correct case, spelling, punctuation, grammar & any other form of presentation, but surely there are better uses of somebody's time?

It isn't like it is "helping" as such, because it is not a job that a more senior site representative would have undertaken if they had the time to do so.

If a member wishes to cast an editorial eye on text, I would suggest re-wording opening comments in deals to make sense, or to have the correct information, is a more worthwhile exercise (for most users of the site; not just those that frequent the “Feedback” forum).

Like I have said in other threads, I am not dismissing the commitment, or the motivation, of the Forum Helpers; but when there are other issues of more importance it just seemed to me that it was finding working for the sake of it.

The practice has stopped now, so I will not dwell on it; please do not feel I am being critical for the sake of it.

You may have been asked a million times already, but do you have a signature for every post fp automatically tagged on (and how do you do, might I ask), or do you manually whack on for every post:

BFN

fp

Not to draw attention, or making any point; just wondering.

No, I add the text manually each time I wish to include it (here at HotUKDeals, & elsewhere).

Automated signatures used to be feature within the individual member profiles at HotUKDeals (up to early/mid-2007, I think).

I think HUKD should re-introduce them, just to give that extra personality for each member.

There was no need for this thread. The helper in question was only tidying up and its no big deal.

I disagree.

As I mentioned, tidying-up is thing, changing the title of threads is another.

I did not see the need for this.

If a title was misleading, or unclear, then why not contact the creator to say that it was being changed, or ask for it to be changed?

Recently I spent almost an hour finding & then asking for my threads to be unexpired the last time somebody was "tidying-up". No explanation, no comment in the thread, no contact; it was just marked as "Expired".

The same happened here; no explanation; threads were just changed.

You may not see the need for the thread. I do not see the need to "tidy-up" in this manner.

I appreciate you have posted to 'defend' the "Helper", bossyboots, but if we have to agree to disagree on this then so be it.

Disagree.

I've had a helper meddle with one of my deal titles recently and i found it frustrating because the resulting title was cluttered and not as concise as my original. Especially as they didn't add anything important to the title.

I can understand editing a title if there's important information to add, or to clear up a misleading title. But doubling the length of a title for no reason without adding any extra information is just annoying.

It's a shame i edited the title back without making a copy or i'd quote it in here...

Thanks for bringing this up FP.

Edit:

Mine was something like
"NEW PRICE LOW: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - Xbox 360/PS3 £20.27 Delivered at Zavvi"

It was edited to something like "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood on Xbox 360 and PS3, RRP: £40. £23.95 at Zavvi without Britvic voucher code, £20.27 with the Britvic voucher code"

There was additional faffing with the formatting of the title, and something else.
Can't remember the exact details, just found it irritating and unnecessary.
Especially as the first line of my post mentioned the voucher, and my first reply gave instructions on how to use the voucher.
On a sidenote my deal ended up spammed as a dupe 20 minutes later anyway. Thanks HUKD search engine =p

Edit2:
Nice to see this post is "expired" without this problem being addressed, wonder why that is :/

Just as there was no need for the 'helper' to do what they did. Just like when a 'helper' went around expiring loads of feedback threads that weren't expired.

My deal thread listed today:

My original title:
"Rango" [PS3 / Xbox 360] £13.99; [Wii / NDS]: £10.99 at GAME.co.uk

The title was changed between 4:30pm & 7:30pm today to:
Rango [PS3/Xbox 360] £13.99; [Wii/NDS]: £10.99 Delivered @ Game

I have now changed it back.

I think someones trying to mess with your mind fp...........there was no need to change that at all.

Now while i appreciate whoever did it most likely did it with the best intentions, surely there energies would be better spent on other things.

A word in their shell like will hopefully rectify it.

Whoever it is did it to me on my freebie thread for the Rabbids goodies albeit some time ago now.... can't believe they are still at it though?!

I originally titled my thread (something like) "Join Ubisoft's Rabbids fanclub for Figurine, Frisbee & Badge" and it was changed to "Join Ubisoft's Rabbids fan club for freebies @ Ubisoft"

Like FP I changed it back and wrote why in the OP - some helpers must be bored or something???
