People would ignore the commecial section as they can get enough special offers in their inbox or directly from websites. If companies are allowed to post directly alongside other deals, then people wont post deals as it will create a horrible sales atmosphere. You just need to look at the AVforums where every other user is openly working on behalf of a company and promoting goods.
Are the hotukdeals blogs sponsored deals? At least that has always been my assumption. I have never really looked but their "offers" never look very attractive.
It's not about them promoting themselves, they were begging people to post it on hukd.

Agreed, but they weren't doing it on here. As long as they comply with Facebook's T&Cs they can do what they want on Facebook. I know anyone linked with a company can't self promote on here but is there anything in HUKD's T&Cs that bars them from doing anything outwith this site?
Not that I'm pro-Scan. I'm as P'd off as everyone else about them upping their free P&P limit.
The Game Group have a Twitter feed & self-promote by it many times a day.
+ The Hut Group send out e-mails to every customer a few times a week (sometimes more than once per day).
& so on...

But they're not promoting their selves on the HUKD site. Though, I agree with you about The Hut Group using the same email shots 3 times a week.
Another related subject is that I have noticed some site including a HUKD shortcut for posting a deal. I imagine they are cleared for usage on their site by admin, but isn't it essentially the same thing? This one was on the 7dayshop site:
Neither are Scan. They are asking their customers to promote on their behalf.
According to the "Help" text (quoted below) if a (HotUKDeals) member does not benefit from doing this, then that is not self-promotion.

This website is for people who want to share good deals theyve found or look for advice from other members. Anyone can post a deal here as long as theyre not an advertiser or merchant: HotUKDeals is not a promotional tool for businesses and companies and anyone found posting items for the purposes of personal gain will be banned from the site. We may occassionally remove deals if we feel the merchant in question does not have adequate contact and/or registration details. Generally speaking we only allow UK based companies, although allowances on the above will always be made for merchants who have a strong reputation with our members.

If you regularly like what Scan have to offer then simply visit their site each day to look.
The good bit for me was the community here. Not being PC savvy I wouldn't really know a good deal on PC bits. Hearing the HotUKDeals community helped resolve that matter.
The companies that generate the most revenue for this site get to put a 'Submit to HUKD' button on each of their products, a 'vote this product hot' button on each of those already submitted, mass deal submissions from moderators and 'forum helpers', endorsed representation from company members to produce dishonest rebuttals to complaints on this site, and much other preferential treatment. The mods and admin deny this, and always have, but these denials are getting harder and harder to believe...

If that's the case, then isn't that basically what Scan were doing albeit by skipping pressing the official button and asking people to do it for them?
They're using one rule for one and one for another.

Another merchant caught "self-promoting", it seems.
The share on HUKD buttons are a tool to allow visitors to that site / product to promote it if they feel it's a good deal. I am sure the admins are keeping an eye on the sites who have the button to make sure it's not being abused.
Scan are a multi-million pound company and if they can't get people to promote their offers without begging and bribing then they are doing something wrong. Ebuyer got caught doing it and got banned, but now they are back after sorting out the issues.
HUKD is not a personal spam machine for large companies, it's a deal finding website where good offers from ANY retailer can be added, if a company like scan decide we want to spam then they will be banned. If HUKD allowed scan to do as they please, the site would just be full of scan's "offers".

Check the feedback forum on that add deal/vote button. It does look on the face of it that that's exactly what it is for those that use said buttons and it does appear to be being abused from whats been posted.
