yep, i think it's a good idea! personal recommendation is always a great tool.

don't forget to check out all the hotuk "deals by store" too :D

def, often as interested in customer service as price.

Would be very handy!

Not so keen on this myself. Looking at MSE where there are sooo many sections + forums, you miss a lot of things. Also it has become very messy.

That was one reason I prefer this site to there, less mess.

Keeping deals in one forum with maybe a thread for recommendations would be better I think.

Just my thoughts :D

Not a bad idea. Would be really interesting to know which shops are the most helpful.

with growth of course there will be more mess. Mess is only there when it's (obviously) not put in its place & kept nice & neat & tidy, that's with life & also of course, in here. So perhaps with growth we'll need more areas for specific things? just rambling here lol.....

as for the original post... i think perhaps it'd make more sense for an article to be written on the main website with user comments regarding each topic? just an idea....

I have to agree with that -- however a sticky post in hot deals?

a thread would be a very good idea - that's what i had in mind too!

I agree with devalia, a sticky post sounds like it would do the job and keep the main forum page simple.

Yeah :) Stuck at the top of the page :) Maybe titled "Add Here - Recommended Online Shops" add here get it? a sticky :)

I agree with having a sticky in the deals section. But I think it'll need a mod to update the first post on a regular basis with a sorted list of shops in sections such as DVD, PC's etc.

I've had another good think over this (yeah I know, my brain hurts :|)

I don't think it's a good idea having a "Recommended Online Shops"

The thing is, when a Hot Deal is posted in the forum, the place it comes from is already being recommended.

A thought was if you want to put a Poll in your hot deal post, "Recommend This Online Shop" - "Yes" - "No" - "Not Used", people can see at the point of the deal, whether the shop looks worth using.

Also, the poster could put the recommendation in the original post if they've used the shop before.

There are so many websites with shops advertised on them, I feel a forum or thread would show the most used shops only. Which like other sites would be the (for instance) John Lewis or Amazon or Tesco. Personally, I think there are too many of the "names", I prefer going straight to "the deal" whether from a well known name or a lesser known name.

So I think another forum would be a bit pointless.

The point would be more for the "Deal Requests" forum, for example the other day someone was looking for a cheap scanner. I looked on ebuyer and they had them for £17.99, thats because I know ebuyer is a good source of cheap computer gear, but that guy did not.

Also I did not know about filmnights and sendit.com until I trolled though lots of posts on this site and picked up some more info. It would just be nice to have a quick reference section so you could go and have a look your self rather than posting a question and waiting for a response. This means your likely to find a better deal because all the best shops we know about would be listed. When someone replys to your deal request you might not be getting the best deal, someone else from this forum might now of a better site, but they have not seen your post.

in expansion to the previous post & also my earlier post in this thread....

how about a whole new section to this website.... listing shops by category and alphabetical order, it would list loads & loads of shops to choose from & against each one a rating voted for by the users of this website?

So, if you're looking for a DVD, go to that section & it'll list, Amazon, DVD.co.uk, play.com etc etc.... Amazon may have 7/10, DVD.co.uk 7.3/10 etc etc.... & when you clcik on the link for the shop it gives more user comments to get a persronal feel for them?

Also, ratings can be split... reliability, customer services, delivery speed, price & whatever else?
