Leave it be.

The person in question is a very helpful and nice member.

I could pick up on you going off topic on another thread. Go take you <150 posts and moan about something else.

P.S. I've left you rep for being a sweetie.

Paul has said it's only a bit of fun anyway but why should there be restrictions on how it's used?

JDeal - I would leave you rep but i've got to slag it about a bit and spread it about a bit again.

Isn't it about time the Rep system was looked at?

I can understand why it's there with regards to thanking someone for finding a good deal, or after a successfully completed trade in the FS forum, but there's a steady increase (usually in the Random Nonsense forum) where people are leaving rep for each other for no reason what so ever.

How is 'being a sweetie' the same as being a good/trustworthy trader, and why is it deserving of Rep?

Rule no 1 of HDUK is "never attack the "rep club"

Rule no 2 of HDUK is "never attack the gossip threads"

If you do you'll get the typically unfriendly responses that you have done.

I agree with you completely that many people don't regard it as "a bit of fun" and take the rep as an indicator of "trustworthyness" or "standing" on HDUK.

That said you can still get lots of rep for being helpful and posting good deals etc. Amibees is a great example of this.

The system is flawed but until a better one comes along its just something you have to accept.

Cheers

I can understand why it's there with regards to thanking someone for finding a good deal, or after a successfully completed trade in the FS forum, but there's a steady increase (usually in the Random Nonsense forum) where people are leaving rep for each other for no reason what so ever.

A recent example is in the 'Photographs of HDUK members' thread, where "You don't look anywhere near 30 honey :) Will leave you some rep for being a sweetie xx" was posted.

How is 'being a sweetie' the same as being a good/trustworthy trader, and why is it deserving of Rep?

People get rep for posting good deals. I also rep people for being helpful when I have asked questions and received in return in similar circumstances. Yes rep is given for other things. As for the member (post) you refer to - they are an extremely helpful member of this community IMO and if they want to dish rep..fine by me.

As for the FS thread - never used it as I have seen many threads of people being scammed etc. Sad but true. I can only say that if someone has a lot of 'lights' lit it likely means they have posted a lot of good deals - or have been a 'sweetie' to an awful lot of people. In either case I dont think you will be scammed - so as far as I am concerned it works..to a degree.

I gave someone Rep recently for 'being a sweetie'. That person bought and paid for a DS lite bundle.. that I couldn't get hold of...out of their own pocket and posted it to me while awaiting my cheque. Frankly it restored my faith in human nature. I did not personally know this person and vice versa. But I 'know' them through the Random Nonsense forum (clue is in the title!) and wouldnt hesitate to do the same for them.

The Way I see it.. Voting something hot and cold is serious because deals take time to be posted and should be treated with the same respect if they're a good deal. I don't care if you vote hot or cold as long as you have a real reason.

But Rep!! This is just to say, IMO, that this person is someone who is a good member of the HDUK community. Someone with a lot of rep means, no matter what their post count, they're a valued member of the community and you can trust them for a bit of help etc. So I have left rep for people who posted photographs in my thread. They took the time to care enough to leave a pic and to join in. That deserves rep.

So kiss my ass

I agree with Sassie i'm afraid Mel..........you can't say that. In future refer to it as 'Happy December Period' so as not to cause any offence to delicate members. :p:giggle:

Kiss my ass is fine though. :-D

You guys know the comments forum is not the place for banter and the like, please keep it on topic.

Some sites offer financial incentives for posting deals, this is just HUKD's alternative approach of reward for posting deals :)

I agree, the 'thanks' system such as on avforums is the best working version I've seen of a rep system.

As for the current system 'being a bit of fun', I think that's quite reasonable simply because rep systems rarely work as everyone wants them to.

I disagree somewhat, theres always going to be people who give out rep based on nothing, imo rep should only be given out in accordance with deals (hot or cold) then theres the clowns who give out rep because they belong to a specific group and enjoy a good circle jerk amongst themselves :)

This whole issue would be resolved if only the moderators/admin's were the only people allowed to distribute rep.

*Dons big red nose and multi-coloured hair* "WHOAH Nearly fell of my tricycle there.."

To obey the mod my serious comment is thus. Do you really think admins have got the time to go through every single deal and give people rep? Are you crazy? The admins on this site work really hard FOR FREE and they're run off their feet as it is.. You was joking though wasn't you?? Surely??

I take high offence at being told I take part in circle jerk-offs. I would just like it to be clear that I am completely monogamous and Sadie is the love of my life.

Not definitely the case, Admin's and the Mod's silence when questioned about whether they receive any benefit for their work is, for most, evidence enough to believe they do. Unless of course that has changed. But I'd be sceptical and believe if they said they didn't recieve anything, they'd just be throwing us off the trail. I still believe they do it purely for sexual favours and this site is a cover for a much cruder background - where we are the unsuspecting innocent members.

P.S. If Admin and the Mods have any musical talent between them, or can make suitable lip movements over a recording, they really should consider forming a band. Follow the footsteps of 'KC and the sunshine band" and 'Alvin and the chipmunks'.

Personally I'm quite pleased when I receive positive rep because someone's found what I posted useful, that's as much as I expect from it - I don't base my opinion on people by their rep count or post count.

I think it's a good system personally. When someone posts a deal that has a lot of posts and a lot of rep then that to me shows it's likely to be more genuine than someone with 1 post and no rep. It's also an additional way to thank someone for a great post rather than just leaving a comment in a thread that gets buried after a week.
