totally agree, when people read the nasty coments it stops them posting deals at all incase they are a repost :)

lol - Dupe post  :http://www.hotukdeals.com/search?action=search&keywords=Reposts:p

The search is carp most days, but sometimes peeps obviously dont bother :?. I usually just say

"repost sorry: http://www.hotukdeals.com/search?action=search&keywords=Reposts"

short n' sweet without being rude.

spot on - and i hate to say it but you will always get the group of indivuals that get pleasure out of making snide comments about others when they are trying to help - best thign to do is jsut ignore them because they truly are not worth the hassle

Rude/nasty comments shouldn't be left, just a simply comment saying 'already posted', a link to the original thread and 'spam' clicked. Its a bit frustrating thinking you've found a hot deal and finding its already posted but at the same time duplicates should be spammed; but as you say nasty comments really aren't needed...

tbh its rare I post links to the orig threads, cant be bothered to look

but I just put 'already posted' and leave it at that....short & sweet

There has to be rule on reposts otherwise the forum would become clogged with reposts of good deals. The current rule is that a deal can be reposted after a month. Some would argue that even that is too short an amount of time. I agree with you that there is no need to be nasty though. I simply write in the thread that this is a repost and provide a link before spamming the thread, hopefully giving the OP the opportunity to know why their thread has disappeared.

100% agree with you on this. :)

I just spam reposts after bumping the original. The advanced search works fine if you read up on how to use it.

until the HUKD seach is sorted im gonna keep promoting this...

this would stop most of the dupes being posted if the HUKD search was as good as the link above.

i think there are too many rude/snide and some just nasty comments left whether its a repost or a deal that someone doesn't like - they tend to tell you more about the poster than the deal!

Couldn't there just be a 'duplicate' button? When I first saw a post of mine marked 'spam', I thought that someone was implying that I was just making loads of useless posts. It put me off posting deals for a while until I found out that it just meant I'd duplicated a post.
Just a thought.

I partly disagree.

Most of the time, you can accept that the search is ****, and people don't mean to. However, certain threads/posters are just plain lazy. You can say "oh but they are only trying to help" as much as you like - but if its just down to laziness (And it often is), I'd seriously rather they stop helping!

Its hard not to be rude sometimes, especially when you stay polite, only to get the usual cretins saying things like "well I didn't see it the first 700 times, so its a hot from me. vibeone is a ". Then I just end up being rude :)

oh and diabeticguy, I don't want to make it personal, but

diabeticguy
"I have to say that a deal may have been posted but very quickly drops from the current list and unless you search for a specific item, product or deal you may not know it even exists. I have only known about some excellent deals because they were reposted."

just makes you sound selfish. The alternative view, is that reposts push as least one (probably newer) deal down the page quicker, meaning someone misses that one. Should we repost that one as well? Lets just ban new deals, and repost the old ones then? Its not as clear cut as you make out.

Couldn't agree more.

The rule that you can repost hot deals after a month doesnt help matters! Just bump the original :whistling:

posting in a thread so it goes back to the top of page 1

Okay, thanks.
What about if I was going back through old deals and wanted to add a comment about the product / service, is that not allowed?

Of course it is

I have one request tho (not that any of the mods will listen :whistling:), and that is to have the basic search default to ordering the results by most recently posted deal, rather than most recently commented on deal. Surely this HAS to be a better way to go about things?! I am sure that this would cut down on the amount of reposts...

Just for the record, I always use the advanced search, but most of the time it is just to reorder the results to newest deal first. IT IS SUCH A PAIN!

Come on mods - sort it out!

Thanks. Quite a few times I have seen somebody slated and left nasty comments because they have made a mistake without knowing it. More often than not, it s a genuine mistake and they should be told what they have done wrong and what they should do. Being nasty to them will just put them off posting again.

I agree with your suggestion about the search results being listed by the most recent deal. Actually, until you mentioned it, I didn't know you could re-order them !

When I do a basic search, it comes back in a completely random order and always has done. Now I always have to use advanced search and thats not perfect by any means.
