[Request]: Display members that "spam" threads & restrict the "spam" link to relatively new members

fanpagesfanpages

As just stated in the 'Where Did My Thread Go?' Thread:

May I suggest that the displaying of the user names of those that spammed a thread when the "The thread you are trying to view has been marked as spam." message is displayed may lessen the behaviour that is now rife in the "Misc" forum by "serial spammers".

Also introducing a threshold such as 1,000 comments, or 6 months as a member, before being able to mark a thread as "spam" may also reduce the instances.

Thank you for your consideration/comments.

It is getting beyond the joke, your reading a thread, compose a reply, try to post it & only to find its been spammed. I've noticed the tag abuse has died down of late, since abuser's can now be identified so I cant see why serial spammers cant be named & shamed !

developers/mods/admin/anyone that has the power to do anything, good idea/bad idea ?

The main problem is that the site doesn't really care about the Misc section. If this was to start happening on money making Deal links then action would be taken.

    That is a fair point.

However, if (when) the "Misc" Forum becomes unusable less & less members will stay to post deals & provide "click-thru" revenue for the site.

All that will happen is that people who legitimately spam threads will be attacked by the usual suspects.

Leave it as it is,it's no different to how it's always been, people have been moaning about spammers for years.

The only possible solution is to remove it all together.

What are legitimate reasons for spamming a misc thread? Swearing isn't one as suggested by you in the other thread? In fact the code of conduct specifically states to use the report button for these posts.

If i legitmately spam a thread i don't care who knows. Only those who malicoulsy do it have any reasons to be wary.

exactly, on the rare occasion I spam anything I usually post a reason why in the thread before doing so. I always wonder why people don't want you to be able to see that they have done that, one might think they are the ones doing it all the time.

A code of conduct breach is reason to spam a thread

no its not, but feel free to point to where it says that in the code of conduct

    II. Spamming:

There is a zero tolerance to spam here. Anything that is deemed to be so will be removed with immediate effect and the spammer banned at the discretion of Admin and Moderators.

    * Empty messages or replies invisible by font and background colour being the same, quotes with no new content or reasonable meaning and repetitive questions, pictures or inane words is spam.
    * Pornography, pornographic images or sexually offensive material is spam.
    * Self promotion of businesses and anyone involved with them, survey threads, charity request threads made without prior permission, auction / marketplace sites (with the exception of those sellers approved by HUKD), personal sales elsewhere, links to personal websites, requests for referrals, referral links, third party affiliate links, advertising for personal gain and displaying of e-mail address in the forums is spam
    * Duplicate threads will be deleted at the discretion of moderators if already posted within the last month. Please use the advanced search to avoid this scenario.
    * Bumping old threads without good reason is not permitted and will be classed as spamming, as will thread spoiling and hijacking.
    * Adding offensive tags or anything considered as spam in any part of a thread, tag line or post may result in a ban
    * Threads relating to or discussing members who have been banned or suspended will be removed from the forum.
    * Spamming by PM or Private Message may also result in a ban.

nothing in there about spamming code of conduct breaches

    VI. Reporting Offending Posts:

Members have the ability to report posts made by others if they think any of the rules have been broken and we thank you for using this feature.

    * A report button is placed to the right of every post in the form of a grey triangle containing an exclamation mark.
    * Reported posts will notify Admin and Moderators of the offending post. Please include a brief description and links with your report.
    * Do not reply to an offending post, leave it to Admin and Moderators who will deal with the situation as soon as possible.
    * Responding to offending posters in any thread with aggressive replies, or inciting them to continue will be considered as an offense in itself.
    * Abuse of the voting system expiry and spam buttons could lead to account restrictions.

Clearly states posts breaking the rules should be reported, nothing about spamming them, which part have I overlooked?

    real tears?

So nothing to back up what you say whatsoever except 'I'm right, code of conduct is wrong'? Do you realise how stupid you look?
hopefully people who admit spamming threads for no legitimate reason get infracted

I think you will find that the OP of the original thread started getting clever and breaching the code of conduct by telling people to F off when he was asked for his opinion rather than just copying a news story and leaving it

    Hence the spammage

    wrong

And your just trolling, if you have nothing to add why not f
f is not worthy of a report, ffs
