Great idea, I like it.;-)

only thing is a deal thread is by definition a retailer comment thread too, something isn't a deal if its from a retailer with an appauling reputation, but some people might think it is a deal as they may have had a good experience previously.

all people's previous experience, good or bad, helps to shape the deal and removing comment on a retailer would be a step backwards imo. there are feedback threads for mobile retailers but that's for cashback issues and rants mainly so i dont really feel there's much desire on the forums for more feedback-ish threads.

perhaps a better idea might be to have a seperate merchant rating system displayed in the thread also, so a deal from a 'cold' merchant could still get hot and hit the front page, but people would clearly be able to see the merchant is not as reputable as some...

A site like ciao which is dedicated to merchant reviews can do the job much better than us :)

The idea is get the opinion of HUKD members and allow HUKD members to discuss the good and bad points of the retailer. :)

I'm guessing the OP didn't mean reviews though... more of a place where employees of said site could come and help resolve issues.

I know the owner of Blah DVD (one of the stores argued about the most) visits here. No doubt owners/employees would get involved if required in a thread dedicated to the store they own/work for were to be made in a forum where it wouldn't vanish beneath others.

A retailer forum would allow members to get express their annoyance away from every deal related to the store in question, allow members to post positive comments after the store did well and give a place for the stores to defend themselves. Can't see anything wrong with a new forum that would solve problems.

For owners to post, it can easily cross the line into self-promotion, and sales talk. At the minute, we are quite strict with what we allow these company representatives to post.

I'm not dissing your idea, just arguing the concept.

Fair enough, but it's only fair that the retailer be allowed to offer an explanation if a large amount of the HUKD members start an anti-*insert retailer here* campaign and vote cold anything connected to that retailer.

Surely it wouldn't be a problem if the owner/employee only posted in the retailer forum in order to solve problems?

I dont think this is needed as they can just post in the thread.

Which swiftly falls off of the bottom, and is missed by many unfortunately.;-)

We get lots of people complaining in deal threads and voting cold because of past experiences with retailers. These people could use a forum to talk about these issues, giving them a reason not to turn deal threads into retailer hate threads.

It would also be good for people to easily be able to view the recommendations of the HUKD community with regards to the best stores. This would ease the worries of people new to buying online/who haven't ordered from the store in question previously.

This would be very simple to do - Create a forum, make a rule about only having one discussion thread for each retailer. No effort required to make and the threads for each retailer would be easy to find with only one allowed for each.

What'cha think?

In theory I think this is an excellent idea  I know I would certainly use such a forum.
It would also be good to have a specific area where retailers could respond to specific problems HUKD'ers have with their companies.

In practice however it opens up the proverbial can of worms and I would imagine it would be too difficult an area to moderate and would probably take up too much time and resources.

Just my opinion though and it would be nice to hear/read the Admins' views.

Day in, day out people ask "what's quidco", "how do I post images", "oh I didn't know you could do a search that way...do this...do that" ( see Brum's thread ). If people can't be bothered or aren't able to hunt out the "bread & butter info" posted on sticky's & Mods sigs then why would anyone bother looking for or posting on this "Retailer forum".

Bargain hunters have very selective memories...most will not get a mis-price & yet will still order the next one that comes up, but when e-tailers use the same practices to get site traffic, log-in details & take people for mugs knowing that UK law on internet retail is a joke then it will be remembered & commented on.
Unless Admin/Mods remove all comments along these lines (which I can't see happening unless they become abusive or libellous) then it will ALWAYS happen, with or without your "Retailer forum".

Well after a cold spell I got regarding a CD Wow post I now think twice about posting any more deals, 1) is it worth the abuse from certains members and their past issues and 2) is the purpose of my deals for members eyes to get a bump up on a certain deal or for the general public to jump in and steal all the stock before all the HUKD members get a chance buy it.

It would be nice to hear from retailers about problems/ experiences due to stock levels or other day to day hardships they have suffered which have resulted in problems....blah......blah.....blah.....blah....blah......blah.....blah.....blah....blah... ...blah.....blah.....blah....blah......blah.....blah.....blah ....blah......blah.....blah.. ...blah....blah......blah.....blah.....blah is there anybody taking any serious notice of what I am saying? is anyone going to do anything about it? I doubt it :whistling:

I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere before but I had a search and couldn't find anything recent so I thought I'd step forward and make a suggestion.

When I look for deals on forthcoming purchases, I often come across websites that offer good prices but don't look very professional. As a result, I wonder if they're legitimate and more often than not, give them a miss. I recently ordered a Dyson and that was certainly the case in this thread.

It dawned on me that finding bargains and finding good retailers can go hand in hand. Would it therefore be possible to have some sort of retailer rating system to be implemented?

At the moment, when you submit a deal you get to search/choose the retailer so I'm guessing there's some sort of database somewhere. Perhaps it'd be possible to list all those retailers and give registered HotUK members the opportunity to rate those retailers by past experiences? The rating could work in a similar manner to the current cold, warm and hot meter used for deals.

Anyhow, I'm starting to babble now but I think you get what I mean. Just a suggestion!

Sites such as http://www.ciao.co.uk/ already give reviews of products and websites.

Merged with same topic.

how about a section for Store Reviews.

So the title of the post would be "Review: Store Name"

User can vote it hot or cold, and leave their experiences of each store, so that we dont have to get individuals making their own posts each time asking about is this store any good.

It could also drive a lot more traffic to this site too as people search google for Store Reviews.

I hear what people are saying but I think having something like this could cause a lot of friction, as I remember not to long ago, Gary_Rip got himself into a huge arguement with one of the site owners that went on for pages and was going in circles and the mods had to step in.

It would be a nice feature but it would be a lot of hassle for the mods who are already rushed off there feet with the amount of excellent work they perform and I've already seen other sites that has forum sponsers by online retailers who perform this exact service, so I think it should remain the same. :)

I never understand why people get upset if there deal gets voted cold. :o

As long as someone found it useful then it's served it's purpose.

I think its a great idea but it would probably end up being alot of work for the moderators/admins.

Plus there are better sites out there that do these things better.

I must admit I used to get annoyed only when cold voters would go on stupid and vote all my deals cold without any explanation, as I saw it disrespectful to people who invest a lot of time to spot the best deals for everyone with no benefit to themselves.

I noticed it all stopped after I stopped caring though and I started seeing it in a new way and now I can get blasted by everyone on the forums but as long as 1 person has benefitted from my efforts, then it's been worth it. :)
