Ah, I see. Didn't realise it was a rule (actually stated anywhere?), but I have noticed it done in several threads recently. I might even have done it myself once or twice in the past, but have just recognised the potential for under the radar trading.

they arent suppose to edit title or 1st post in the fs boards, but think most now dont give a crap

I don't think editing the title is that much of a problem but you do have a point with the under the radar trading.

Say for example I start a thread selling 10 items, I list them all in the second post rather than in the first. I sell 8 out of the 10 items using all three of my bumps, there was no interest in the other two.

I could then just edit the post removing any trace of having offered them for sale and start a new thread on them by passing the 7 day rule.

Perhaps we could make it mandatory that every item has to be listed in the first post so that you can't later remove it.

Even if you just had a brief list in the first post with a further list in the second post stating prices and more info.

Mods used to discourage this practice, but I rarely see them do anything anymore.

Editing the original post is explicitly against the rules (r.18) but whether or not this includes the title is unclear. I agree it can be used to mask sales and should be actively discouraged.

pmsl - most 1st posts now only say "see second post"

You can't edit the first post in the FS FT forum though, you can only add to it.

It doesn't matter though as people just put "see below for details" and put everything in the second post where they can edit it to their hearts content.

That's why I think users should have to still put a quick list of everything for sale in the first post even if they're going to use the second post for a more in depth list.

Edit - beaten to it by Sassie

I've had a quick review of the 1st page in the FS/FT Forum in order to try and determine the scale of the problem. I don't see many current threads listed as has been suggested, however I have noticed this creeping in. Indeed I came across one last night. I'll be more than happy to accept any reports for threads which attempt to bypass the locking of the OP.

Yes, the scale of the problem mightn't be so big, but it may be worth making the point when some members use it consistently. This user for example http://www.hotukdeals.com/?u=42422 has used it a few times in the last week.

and another example today of the title being removed for the wrong reasons perhaps? http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/409158/please-lock/

I don't think that is really a problem as you can still see what the op was selling, it's this sort of thread that could lead to by passing the rules;

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/408190/cd-clearout-huge-selection-see-post/

The OP on that has now used their 3 bumps, when that thread is locked there is nothing stopping them editing post 2 to remove half of those CD's and starting a new thread on them. No one would be able to tell as as soon as that post is edited any record that they was ever up for sale is gone.

One possible solution is if you're going to offer up a huge lot for sale you can use post 2 but you then have to report your thread and a mod can come along and quote it so a record still remains of what was originally for sale.

No offence to Thestig of course i'm just using it as an example
