Hi,

Yes, creating a listing in Misc asking for a price check requires you to expire/close and wait a further 7 days. No trading allowed to take place in Misc either. Extract from the FS/FT rules below.

LISTING A TRADE, SALE OR REQUEST

Full FS Rules will apply to ANY thread listing of personal trade items in other forums here, including requests for pricing.

sorry boydent but new rules state you have to lock and wait a week

ooops sorry posted at same time as ascottishbloke

Missed that new rule...........oops.

Can't keep up. lol

Thanks for the replies folks.
Seems an absurb rule but rules a rule i guess.
I should have just listed it in for sale, with no pictures, and RRP then and let folks decide what they wanna pay. Instead, i tried to go for a more informed price and this happens :x
OK, i'll expire the thread in misc and erm, wait i guess
I don't feel quite so silly now mind, Sy, the selling champion didn't realise :)
Trust you to have known mind Sass!

Thanks for the quoted reply aScottishBloke
Edit: have just expired it, only 6 days 59 mins and seconds left.......

Yeh its a stupid rule. But like I said, the mods like to take pleasure in making people wait.

Thanks as always Sass, AND i know you're right but that's not what was said earlier was it?

It's not a stupid rule at all. It's to prevent cross promotion of items in the forums and the building up pre-sale interest.

It's not too difficult, nor should it be considered a barrier, to find out for yourself, the prices of similar items sold on here or other sites. If you can't/won't do that, then waiting 7 full days is a small price to pay.

I'm not surprised, not sure how to anymore.
I am grateful to those who advised me not to though, my learned friends :)

Thanks for the correction - I should have been clearer. Expire and Close. Thanks for putting it right Sassie. Boydent999 - I await your closure request.

Thread was locked due to the question being answered.

Is there a further question I have missed ?

We have a deal request area
Folks litter misc with deal requests. I have crossed swords with mods and member alike over this. Some rules are more greatly enforced than others. Please don't ask me to go reporting them, i gave up doing so a looooong time ago
As for building up pre-sale interest, i was trying to find out a price, not the same, might be interpreted the same (by you) but that was not my intention. I found a thread last night which i posted in, someone had requested one and i asked were they still interested. Given no reply, i figured misc was next best.

Thank you for unlocking this thread/locking the thread i requested to be locked

I am not really sure it's worth trying to sell it here now, mind, now have thanks to the rules 7 days to list elsewhere i guess.......

boydent i know your cross because you cannot relist, but misc was getting these threads for the wrong reasons, i know there are some genuine ones who ask ut there was also ones doing it with the one intent of promoting how many people would look out for it, a little unfair to those with just one post, it is also to stop people who have listed starting threads in misc asking why there items arent selling, another promoting your thread elswhere, but i do agree some fly under the radar most of the time, and like you and others give up on reporting and helping out
#16
Ever the diplomat Sass :)
banned#17
I'd be very surprised if members gave up reporting due to the fact that they considered no action was being taken. We're pretty strict on this rule, although some do escape under the radar (unreported) it's not our intention to let this happen. We do rely on member reports for the majority of actions, it's nearly impossible to implement otherwise.

Sorry to jump in here, but I can see why the rule is frustrating, but its true, I have price checked on here, but there is other places to look for price comparisons (before rule), and it is self advertising overall as you often find people offering x amount for the item on the Misc forum, so I can see why the Mods want to get rid of this. Trying to eliminate the extra bumping and people who arn't using the forum genuinely. It was nice to test the water in Misc first, but its doubling the bumps and advertising of yourself.

Fleebay can help to get a new price.
#19
I agree. It is a stupid rule.
Some things will depreciate in those seven days and it is very unfair to the seller.
Sure in some cases it works, but most times it doesnt.

Jump away Adam, more the merrier. I know there are other places to look, in my misc post, i said, i'd checked mazuma and said sites at work are blocked. Seemed TO ME a reasonable request seems not so. I have to say again, and feel i am having to defend my actions, i was NOT looking for self-promo, additional advertising or bumps, just wanted advice no more. Got that in the 1st reply by Tonyg1962 and was grateful. Figured that would be the end of it and i could then move on and list. Luckily Deathtrap3000 advised against it, i posted the thread here and the rest has turned into a futile debate it seems; rules are there, ain't gonna change but i cannot agree with it like that makes any difference lol.

So, in future then ScottishBloke, and mod team as a whole. Will all deal requests, posted in misc, be locked, if reported/spotted and moved to the relevant area? Will all similar threads, be merged? Can i go back to being a militant again and report all that is breaking the rules? I did this and gave up cos they were not being acted upon and seems i am not alone.....

This is my angst now, the, i dunno, inconsistency of rules, hidden behind the veil of, well we don't see them, get them all reported to us.

Glad you did, as you seem like one of the few that thinks before posting.

Unfortunately I’m guessing a fair few have abused this and the admins are trying to make get rid of the irritating few that abuse the system.

I genuinely think from your replies this was your intention just to get a price comparison, though I don't think this rule will be changed at all. Though I still think the bump situation needs to be upped, and the RRP needs to be reviewed with older items, as if you incorrectly put this in or over price as seen somewhere else they should review your case, well I hope they do (Probably do).

Personally I always go to either Sigma or aScottishbloke if I have a question before listing or if I’m unsure of anything and there happy to help in the FS/FT forums.

the rule is to stop threads like this,
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/410688/video-cassettes/

and various other price "request" threads that end up turning into an extension of fs/ft. For every genuine thread looking for a guide there would be 5 trying to drum up business on the sly.

Spammed the above thread by the way.

I like the rule

example "I'm going to be putting up my brand new ford mustang in the FS/FT thread in a minute how much should I ask for?"

Duh however much you paid for it from the dealer or do what everyone else does use ebay completed listings for a rough average.

I agree with this addition to the rules, but the problem is that no one is aware of it until after they ask for a price check.

No one would be reminded to read the rules of the "For Sale/Trade" forum when posting a thread that belongs in "Misc" in "Misc".

They had stickies at one time, why the heck did anyone think removing them was a good move.

Maybe because soon enough you have stickies about the stickies :) - and the space they take up probably isn't justified by their actual usefulness. How many people bother reading the management's small print? I rarely do.

p.s. but to stay on topic, the 7 day rule is a very good one imo - for the reasons already outlined.

Why so angry? I'd have thought you'd be over the (blue) moon after last night!!!! :w00t:

Hows your mates phone contract going BTW? (Oops - just realised this is in feedback!!!)
Lol, hello mate :)
Angry, no more, lost patience completely yesterday and phone is going back to Orange..........ironically under THEIR 7 day rule :giggle: so i won't be listing that one at least, so see what they can do for me next week.
Very pleased about young Ireland. Mates phone contract. For some reason they didn't/haven't applied the discount and he's given up asking  Both grateful mind Guv

Back on topic
Saint, i have to say, that is a very good point but i won't be the 1st and i am sure i won't be the last to suffer at the hands of it. Perhaps suffer is too strong a word but you get the idea. I appreciate the contribution though.

Post of the thread has to go to Bob Hope mind, what a great contribution :)

I'm done here in this thread, seems mods have give up replying, rules here, rule will stay and as i said, i'm not the 1st, not the last.

Stickies would be great but who'd read them either?

Oh well......thanks to those who joined in, i'll be off again now

No this site really does have some **** rules but this one really takes the ****.
Also why the hell is **** a banned word?

Mod edit- removed swear words

It shows a distinct lack of maturity if you cannot construct a sentence without littering it with profanities.
A lot of people who view and use this site do not want to see this kind of language, we're accessible to all, kids through to OAPs so anything which can be deemed offensive goes in the swearfilter.
Something which you may consider trivial, such as the word you mentioned there, may be seen as offensive to others, we have to respect the views of all members on our site, not just a small minority who think swearing is acceptable.
Much of the swearfilter avoidance infractions we hand out involve swearing which isn't even used in context- it's just swearing for swearing's sake and is completely unnecessary.

I hate stickies, they just clutter forums up. Nobody reads them anyway :w00t:

Don't see what the issue is with the 7 day rule, you choose to trade on here you accept the rules, if you dislike them go elsewhere.
#32
If there used properly only by admins and refresh when added too there only needs to be one in Misc and one in FS/FT

It's ok thanks Guv i spoke with him, he said to leave it but i do appreciate the gesture :)
DCX i heard you you got suspended?
Must admit the chide/comment you got told off with about it being a family forum is one of the best contradictions i have ever read on here :) Family forum, oaps? Do they never go to misc then and see the innuendo and smut in there lol?
I am sorry you did, if you did get suspended in a thread of my making but i cannot believe JB's comment, really can't.
Whilst i do concur with swearing is not big and not clever and i don't know what you typed (best not to type it again) it does show the rules and implementation of them is mudded at least but that's for another thread on another day i guess.
Don't swear kids, it's not big, clever and you'll upset folks but talk about sex, smut, innuendo, who you'd do, who you'd not and play double entendré all day long and you'll be fine cos that's what's fine in a family forum :giggle:

hae to agree with all the above, sometimes misc is like some kind of over 18 chat site, but there answer will be "unless reported we dont know" no doubt
[mod]#35
I never understand the fallout regarding rules in For Sale............where else can you use an equivalent with such a large audience for free??

Much like eBay, people didn't like the changes and stopped using it. But here people don't vote with their feet, they just get abusive or aggrivated about the whole thing.

As for this rule........imo it's a good one. There was a period where these threads were clogging up Misc and then became a good bump avoidance tactic.
