But this 2nd "person" DID come onto the FS/FT forum and DID try to sell a mobile which not only was being sold on ebay but also being shill bid on ebay !
Scamming one way or another. Not a whole lot of difference in my book ?

I think some people see shill bidding in a different way to me, you and a few others on here. I make a living from my two selling ID's, so shill bidding affects me more than most.
I see cases of shill bidding more because of my postings on ebays Forums.

In my opinion, both cases are threads about theft.
I made my point on the other thread so I'll leave it at that.

Shill bidding is an issue for eBay not for this site. If you have a problem on eBay go to eBay and report it there and use their channels to report your issue.

I do not see shill bidding as equivalent to a known forum troll who has ripped people off. I think there is a very clear difference there. If eBay had a list of forum scammers then I would be interested in that.

Whilst Admin has a point, the original comment / post was that a known member of HUKD was shill bidding on eBay. Whilst that is an eBay matter, the fact the person also uses this site must surely affect eveyone else who uses this site honestly? Wouldn't it be nice to know which HUKD deal users are scamming people on other sites as we can then be more wary of anything they offer on here?

Until something has relevance to the community here it is someones own private life. Yes I understand shill bidding is against the rules of eBay but that is an issue for eBay not for this site. Shill bidding is a problem for eBay due to the nature of auctions and how eBay works. It is not an issue for the fs/ft forums here (and defintely not an issue for any of the other forums on this site).

As I said in the other thread what people do in their lives is their own business and not for us to poke our noses into. If someone has a speeding fine (which means they broke the laws of this country never mind just a site) should we also "name and shame" and ban them from the forum? No because it is none of our business and it does not have a direct relevance to the HUKD community.

I think the point has been slightly missed in that the scammer in question put the phone up for sale on HUKD FS/FT forum whilst it was on ebay and being shill bid at the same time.

I actually don't agree with naming and shaming, I think there are, most of the time, more subtle ways of doing things. However that is just my opinion.
I also don't agree that honest people should be just turning away in the face of dishonesty. That kind of attitude is rife in our society which is why the majority foot the bill for the minorities bad behaviour.

Likening the subject of this thread (scamming) to getting a speeding fine is stretching it a bit don't you think ? :)

Bottom line Admin is that it's your playing field and your ball. I accept it's a thin line and I also accept that members should report dodgy dealings to yourself or the mods.
However sometimes it's not that easy when you see something going on. These things are far from clear cut most of the time and providing hard evidence is mostly not that easy. I spent two weeks (on and off) finding evidence for a HUKD member who was being scammed and I know Steve spends loads of time helping out to.

I can't speak for Steve but the reason I tried to help out is because I hate scammers and have seen first hand the misery they cause. Simple as that. Is it none of our business ? Are we interfering busybodies ? Should we just stand by and watch ?

This is a nice friendly community so you would expect members to look out for each other. Just how it should be, surely ?

I've probably written too much, apologies.

I wasn't aware that the item was listed on the forums while it was listed on eBay also. I apologise then but my understanding was that the only connection to the eBay shill bidder is that this person happened to be an HUKD member. As you say that is an important point to miss.

Yes I want the community to look out for each other but I also don't want to have people's privacy invaded upon. What people do in their lives outside the forum is their business until it affects our community. Off hand I can think of two places that would be, the first in fs/ft if they are a scammer and are trying to sell something and second if they are a merchant and trying to self-promo. In both those cases what they do elsewhere may be relevant to their activities here.

And no you haven't written too much, it's important to me to hear what members are thinking and how they feel the community should work.

Sorry for the 'confusion' on the 'other' post. I thought I had said the item was also for sale on here at the same time.
