If being outted for spamming is embarassing then they should be.

Our process is always to discuss things privately with merchants first. They are notified they have been spamming and that there is a correct process to follow and if ignored they will be banned. If they ignore this and continue to spam then this is the consequence.

So they have already had their second chance. Is there a third chance? If we have the assurance and so forth that they will not do it again then yes but there are also repercussions for ignoring the warnings in the first place.

Lastly I have no problems making exposing spammers publicly. The site is not here for free advertising and self-promotion. It is here for the community and any merchant who attempts to abuse that will have to face the consequences.

The big danger to HUKD is if it turns into an self-promo fest and there needs to be strong measures in place to dissaude any merchants from attempting this.

If someone scams in the fs/ft forum we put them on the public DNT list. Should we not do that because it's not "following the rules"? If they are caught and warned and allowed back on and then caught scamming again do you think we should let them trade?

p.s. little surprised you would actually think this kind of issue shouldn't be discussed in the forum dinosteveus as your line is usually "name and shame" and "say it like it is".
[admin]#3
So you don't have a problem with publicly posting stuff as long as you think what they did is wrong? That's what I'm hearing.

I am not going to compromise on that point. Spamming is fundamentally against the rules. It is actually the worst thing someone can do on this site because this site is here for genuine recommendations from one person to another. That's the whole point of it.

If a merchant wants to notify us of a "good deal" they can do so through Contact Us. All merchants who we find spamming are told of this.
[admin]#4
The HUKD policy on merchants who are engagedin self-promo is to (1) warn them and tell them to notify us through Contact Us (2) ban all deals from the merchant if it continues.
[admin]#5
Sorry split this off and comment above should have been at the top. Anyway.
[helper]#6
What about banning them (merchants) on a sliding scale? first offence 1 month ban, 2nd offence 3 month ban, 3rd offence 1 year ban?
[admin]#7
I don't have a problem reinstating merchants really but like anything they need to be "reformed". So there needs to be an indication that they are not going to do it again and that we can trust them to work with the way the site works. There also has to be some kind of consequence for the initial action.

put it too a vote and if soft uk cant receive a clear vote of confidence ie over 70% then ban them full stop.let the members decide once and for all.admin have given them plenty of chance too redeem themselves thus so far without much consideration too this site and its members.i think admin thinks softuk have over stepped the mark more than should be allowed but has atleast given softuk chance too redeem themselves but i dont really see them thanking him for it.so can we have a conclusion to this once and for all.if they are voted out end of story if they are voted in then its the very last chance no question.just open the vote too only longterm members or members with high reputation.i will be interested to see what happens.

What is Steve Wright in SoftUK ?

Reason I ask Admin is that is there any way that this indivdual Steve Wright is actually telling the truth and didn't know what was going on ?
If he is a director then I accept that it is his responsibility but he has said he will put things right , period.

Only you know the full history to this case and who you have sent warnings to in the past but something doesn't seem to stack up.
I'm probably missing something and I'm sure you will put me right :)

On the other hand if indeed you have personally sent him warnings before in your case I would be very reluctant to let them back on HUKD.
[admin]#10
hottoshop - unless we are sitting beside someone we don't know if it is them or a friend/roommate/workmate on the same connection. Either way the director has to be responsible for his companies actions. I wouldn't say oh we can't punish Dixons for example because their director didn't know their sales guys were spamming HUKD.

If a sales assistant steals from woolies you can hardly hold the company responsible for the sales assistants actions or am i missing something that only you know?

No it's just a bad analogy.

No spam on the boards. Merchant spams they get warned, they keep spamming they get blocked. I don't care if it's the director spamming or not.

Did you read my post ?

My point was and still is, if this Steve Wright is a Director/Owner and is telling you that this is the first time he personally has known about the spamming, are you not going to give him the chance to redeem himself and his company ?

I accept you have given them warnings before but unless you specifically gave them to this S. Wright and unless you know his position in the SoftUK setup it's not really fair is it ? Companies change directors etc etc.
Are you banning them for eternity ?

Problem is we don't know the full background which is why I posted what I did :)

Yeah I read it. What I meant was - unless I am sitting next to the person I do not know whether someone is or isn't the same person who we warned. There's a million excuses and the only way to know is to be there. In any case - it does not make any difference to me whether a director knows or not. One way or another they were spamming and there's consequences for that.

Hi,

I would like to clarify that I am an owner/director of this company and take full responsibility.

We have taken this issue very seriously and once again I can reassure you that I am doing everything that has been requested and more to help resolve this situation.

You have my word that no one from Softuk will post any deals that relate to the offers/deals we run.

If the details of the false user can be provided to us then I will take action to speak to the team and to find the person responsible - as I am sure they have no idea the damage it has caused.

I would like to ask the admin how long the ban will last?

I would also like to reassure everyone that now these issues have been highlighted this will not happen again - ever! If there is anything else we can do to resolve this situation please let me know?

Kind Regards

Steve

The posts from Steve Wright seem genuine and unless admin knows something we don't, then I think SoftUK should be given another chance.

At the end of the day this site is about Hot Deals - I'd hate to miss a really good hot deal from Soft UK because they had a ban. I know you have to draw the line somewhere but if Steve Wrights assurances turn out to be false you can easily re-instate the ban.

Its coming up to Xmas - we need all the hot deals we can get!!

I couldn't agree more mate, I've posted quite a bit of Softuk deals because there's a lot of good offers around on a regular basis and since this ban has come into place, a lot of people have missed out on deals such as Zelda on the DS and COD 4, which are all easily the best prices, even now.

This site is all about having the best deals around and I feel with Xmas coming up and the big shortage of Nintendo Wii's, Softuk may even be able to save some our xmas', so we need all the deals possible.

I understand where the admin is coming from, it's his site, it's his rules and he has to take meassures to protect it and we have to all respect that but I think this should of been discussed personally between the admin and Softuk and if they broke the rules again, it would be very easy to ban them again.

Steve why don't you try to offer a similar scheme to what SVP do here?
This site seems to love them for there 2% or whatever discount :)

Please read the original SoftUK thread. We've been there done that. They've been warned - they ignored the warning. As I've said if they are going to be allowed again we need to be able to trust them and they need to take responsibility for their actions.

Edit: the thread relevant for SoftUK - http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111829

Can we keep this thread for discussion about HUKD policy on self-promo and the SoftUK thread for any discussion on that situation. Thanks.

Lastly - Steven Wright. You know what the HUKD admin email is from previous correspondence. The correspondence you have had with HUKD in the past and your company's actions on this site have left us with zero confidence that you see HUKD as anything other than a platform for self-promotion and "free" advertising. If you genuinely are remorseful over the issue and genuinely care about HUKD members then I suggest you think long and hard about your future relationship with this site and bang out an email that does not try to fob off the blame but that acknowledges where you went wrong and how you understand moving forward.

Unfortunately it seems that I can not do much more than to apologise again and to give my word 100% that this will not happen again.

I have already taken the action in stopping all Softuk employees from posting any deals relating to the offers we run. I understand the reasons you are concerned but at this stage it seems I can not do anything else.

I have put some offers forward in a previous edited post, so I will now respect then ban until I'm allowed to prove my word.
