You can sell the consoles. You are not permitted to sell pirated games on here though.

Would you be able to give them away with the sale of a console?
#3
Technically, no. If you have included pirated games in your post, the post will be removed.

OK, thanks for that.

Now that MS have banned consoles that are only modified so that people can play pirated games... can we have them banned from the trading threads also..

pretty please :)
#6
Why ban them ?

If people want to sell/buy them, and as long as it's not blatent in the thread (to protect HUKD), THEN WHO CARES ???

^^^here here, I believe the downloading era has brought the price of cd's down to a more reasonable level. Now the games manufacturers need to do the same. Upto £50 for a game is absolutely disgraceful.

It might be.. but its not long before its under £20.

As long as its not blatant who cares? Thats a rubbish argument tbh Chris (who usually has good ones). Lots of adverts discreetly request things, from paedos to people selling pitbulls by using keywords (not on here obviously).

We all know whats going on, and HotUK shouldnt be willing to let itself be used as a vehicle to help people with piracy.

Do ebay let you sell them?
#9
lol - thats a really crappy argument !!

How can playing a free game of GTA be linked with kiddy porn ???

If lots of adverts discreetly request things, lets ban them all - is that what your trying to achieve ?

Disclaimer

ps - not that I condone the purchasing or selling of such pirated games or music, as this would be in fact illegal, and morally wrong ;)

Wasnt trying to link the 2. Just making the point that the excuse of turning a blind eye to something discreet is not a valid one.

No

Must admit I find it strange it's so freely advertised on here? Could of sworn it was illegal...:?
#15
Do Microsoft sell consoles that work after 15 months? No, so I'd hardly say they can take the moral high ground on this one...
[helper]#16
Modding a console is one thing - its your equipment so you should be able to modify or improve it if you want. Like modifying/upgrading your pc.

What is illegal is using pirated software/games - so I think HDUK's stance on this is correct......

Nope, If a flashed/modded xbox 360 is sold without backup/illegal games then its perfectly legal.

Here you go..

http://cavemonkey50.com/2007/05/microsoft-begins-banning-modified-xbox-360-consoles/

Basically says.. the only real reason 360 users modify their machine is to play pirated games. Also says that the method to make a backup is so longwinded that you just wouldnt bother if you had the genuine thing.

Another interesting article..
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4650225.stm
In July 2005, someone was convicted of selling modified Xbox's.. (tho he was including backups)
In July 2004, Sony won a legal battle to ban the selling of mod chips in the UK

Actually people do bother backing up genuine games incase they get scratched up, Although Microsoft are now doing the free disc replacement scheme so people shouldn't need to worry about that now.

Free disc replacement scheme ?

Microsoft disc replacement program is only for Microsoft release games and i don't think it's Free (£10).

Xbox Disc Replacement Program

If, for any reason, you have a damaged Microsoft® Xbox 360™ disc and like to replace it, please review the information below:
THIS PROGRAM IS GOOD ONLY FOR XBOX 360 CONSOLE OWNERS IN COUNTRIES WHERE XBOX 360 IS SOLD AT AUTHORIZED RETAIL LOCATIONS.
This program only applies to games where Microsoft is the publisher, and is subject to availability. To check and see if your game is available for replacement, please review which Microsoft products currently fall under this program here.
You will need to print and complete the program form.
For additional terms and conditions on this policy, please review the Terms and Conditions.
Once the products have been received by Microsoft, please allow four to six weeks for delivery.

Other game manufacturers have been doing this all along. I've had my 10 month old Xbox360 Call of Duty 2 disc replaced by Activision as it developed cracks along the inner ring. Cost me £11-ish. I was told it there wouldn't have been a charge if the game disc had been less than 3 months old (All the details on obtaining replacement discs are at the back of the instruction booklet).

Apologies, I thought it was free. (After all its there crap hardware that caused the damage most of the time).
#23
Modding a console is illegal but people found loopholes with the word "back up" so as long as you have the original game with it, it's perfectly legal, if not, it's illegal.
I doubt anyone that has a modded console, will have games just with games they already own, especially when you've managed to set everything up to be able to play identical games with a very cheap alternative.

To be honest, i don't think it's worth modding your console, just to have back up games, as the price of modding your console, will cost more than a few games being damaged and you can repair games for literally a few pounds from your locals, also it would invalidate your warranty and you'll be banned from xbox live if caught.

I know a lot of people say they don't use xbox live anyway but to be honest, xbox live makes the 360 a million times better, so it comes highly recommended by practically anyone that's used it. :)

Its free to flash the drive to read back ups! (unless you mean a mod chip?)

Thats why so many people bought a core system cheap, Flashed it and sold it on!
