I like the idea.

Forum annoucements and stickies (And anything normally associated with a forum) would be nice.

But clearly there are technical reasons why it can't be done.

yes, i still think stickies should be used, for things like this, you cannot expect people to hunt out the rules every time they log ii

Stickies would be the ideal solution but the current site cannot "do" stickies. Blog would be another option but the Hot Deals "blog" is Bitter Wallet.......

Should be on the right column.

It's a really good idea, thanks gari189.

We'll start a Notice Board thread and tag it so it appears under the help thread searches.

Help threads are really easy to find, either click a link in a mod signature, or click the link in the first post of the Newcomers Guide, which is featured to the right of the homepage.

It'll be locked to comments, as suggested.
The only thing we'd probably do differently is we wouldn't post every new merchant, there are dozens added every day.
We'd also use it if we update the rules in FS forum etc, that being said it's still up to members to check rules and code of conduct before using that forum.

We'll give it a whirl anyway- Nice one Gari :)

Stick a link to the new thread in the "Tips and Help" box. That box itself could be much better organised (made into a "Useful Links" box) and include all the threads that 'should' be stickied but can't be...

Thanks for that, we can certainly look at how it would be better laid out if you guys aren't happy with it.

The problem is just there are a number of threads that should really be 'stickied' - not just all the help pages, guidelines and trading rules but also things like the quidco thread and other recurrent threads which are meant to keep things in one place. I guess someone could compile an exhaustive 'Useful Links' thread and the link to that thread be placed in the box for now...

Well searching "hukd help" brings up the current help threads, I guess we need to make sure that tag is in all relevent threads

It doesn't. Searching without the quotes brings up a fairly random selection where no doubt the relevant threads are buried, searching with the quotes brings up some of the relevant threads but not all the ones that are tagged. If there was a tag search, problem solved, but for some reason there isn't (makes tags a bit of a waste of time!) - you have to find a thread that has been tagged or add the tag to the new thread.

Besides though, the user shouldn't have to rely on searching for that sort of thread - either a page or a links box with all the help, news and 'persistent' threads listed would be much more effective

But with the quotes (I did include them for a reason :p ) it brings up the help threads.
Tag search is an idea we've been discussing but haven't made a decision on yet :)

Thanks for the positive feedback JB :) Now we just have to publicise it (once its been setup)

Agree that new retailers should probably not be mentioned but ones that have been banned but then allowed are probably worthwhile mentioning (eg Lovehoney and presumably Ebuyer if they behave themselves)

Sorry j-b but I disagree, that doesn't bring up all the help threads, only the ones that explicitly contain the text "hukd help". Probably the most important help thread - the Newcomers Guide thread by emma isn't in the results when you search for "hukd help" - and there are several other relevant threads with the 'hukd help' tag that also aren't returned by the search...

(Sorry gari for taking this a little off track but its a relevant point!)
