Permanant ban for both 101cd & blahdvd. Not the above board tactics that a board with the high ethical standard of this one deserves. There should be some consequence.
#2
As stated on the relevant thread a mis-price is something that is corrected once noticed...Not something that is drawn to your attention for you to then close down the site, change a couple out of a large number of these mis-prices & then re-open for business with FULL KNOWLEDGE of these errors & continue to take orders!
Kick 'em out & send a message to e-tailers that continue to use mis-prices as a marketing & e-mail harvesting tool!!!

My guess is that Paul will do what HE feels is right rather than bowing to a lynch mob but I reckon a poll over banning would allow him to see the strength of feeling amongst the members.

A. Blah own 101CD, any potential ban would apply to both & a ban had been mentioned by Paul (Admin) on the '101CD Monty Python' thread
B. There are plenty of people that have been through the mis-price lottery & this wasn't mis-pricing, it was false advertising once they re-opened the site in the full knowledge of these incorrect prices.

What did blah and 101cd do to make people want them banned

They mispriced dozens of boxsets/dvds.. Said they were cancelled on forum, and were closing for half hour to fix things. Took paypal payments and dont intend to return them for 48 hours, and when re-opened still had dozens of misprices with some STILL on there now. Basically ended up with a huge number of new customers, their names addys phone nos emails and credit card details, plus a huge amount of advertisement on here, for nothing. Their rep on here selectively responded to qs ignoring the important ones, and they generally acted to a less than ideal standard.

i'd go for a permanent ban on both of them as well as any other names they trade under in future, i'd also advise anyone affected to change their details stored by 101

Due to the recent bad handling of my orders due to some pricing errors on your web site, i wish you to remove my address and any other information you have gained from my order from your records & refrain from passing any of my information on to any third party's.

Thank you.

Copy taken for my records.

---------------------------------

I normally change some small personal details on any orders so i know if they been passed on to a 3rd party.

Problem is that if you ban 101cd - you would have to ban Game, Amazon etc for their misprices.
As far as I'm aware the only losses have been some time and effort of HUKDers and a helluva lot of goodwill towards CD101.
The first high profile bargain to be advertised on here from 101CD and suddenly all will be forgiven.

Unless the misprices are a deliberate and consistent act then I say "no ban"

ps I was looking forward to Band of Brothers for £4.99 but "c'est la vie"....

CD101 have been pretty consistent. The other it's a one off (may seem more due to huge inventories but amazon deal in millions more products than cd101).. This has been a system mispricing of well nearly everything. Few items on there are "about right". They seem to be either way over the odds (Eg x files £80 a season?!) or way under (See Hot Deals forum).
Still alot of misprices on there now.. and they reopened with many of the misprices hukders found - after closing for half an hour to fix em. If thats not soliciting business unfairly well I don't know what is.

I've only ever had two vouchers from Amazon because of misprices.
I haven't and won't use them again.

I haven't even read the 101 thread and its just pages and pages would take forever.

The only problem I can see is whenever there is a misprice, HUKD jump in and order franctically, I doubt any company can afford to make a huge loss giving out 1000's of misprices.

From what I can see, It was mis-priced box sets and there were at least several mis-priced, I'd make a guess it was because of a site/human error as there isn't normally that many misprices from the same site.

Now if they sent an email apologising, I'd say thats fair enough.
[helper]#22
if you start doing this though where do you draw the line?

I'd have to say ban HMV for having items on their websites that are never supplied eg Xbox wheels, live starter kits etc.

Game would have to be banned for their Xbox headset deal.

Play - a definite ban for their £5 off every item voucher (the're still processing my order btw).

They've all made mistakes so why should only 101CD be banned?

However as they do post on this site an explanation and apology would be nice....

Because once they re-opened it was no longer a pricing error as these others could be claimed to have been!?!?!

Not having a go at Iom but just for anyone that hasn't read through it all....
1.The mis-prices were posted by Edi who even titled his post as Mis-prices.
2.Everyone here jumped all over a large number of boxsets at the fiver mark.
3.Blah (the parent company of 101CD) came online to say the site would be closed down.
4.Then they re-opened, having posted on a thread that had listed the errors with the majority of them still in place & continued to take orders.
5.They then appeared as 101CD & announced that all the orders were to be cancelled & then despite both 101CD & Blah (as members) remaining onsite they refused to answer queries.

It's not the mis-pricing, no matter how annoying it is that's p#ssed people off it's re-opening with the full knowledge of these errors!!!
#24
Thanks C32, Makes a bit more sense.

So basically they've re-opened a site with the same problems and allowed the mis-prices remain for sale, Despite knowing they won't be honouring any.

If anything that shows a lack of knowledge on how to run a company, If you can't even remove an item from sale, What hope have you got for processing other orders!!
#25
nearly all companies will state E&OE so there's no stipulation to honour a misprice anyway. blatantly advertising snake oil to get free advertising/traffic is a pretty low tactic but business is business i guess, the nature of a misprice is its a bit of a gamble!

i've not read the 101 thread or dealt with them so can't comment on this particular trader though.

maybe a reputation system for each merchant could be added at some point with regard to percentage of misprices honoured (compared to the amount/percentage that the item was underpriced by?)

You all knew they where a pricing error, there where even warnings in the forum that 101 do not honer this type of error.

I too saw the offer and made a quick decision that it would not be worth the hassle of trying to chase a refund.

You all tried your luck and it didn't work out. Just move on and deal with it. :)

While what you say is indeed true, and that being the case, posting deals from this company on here is a total waste of bandwidth (with little or no return) that would be put to better use advertising for companies that DO actually come through with the goods.

Therefore it makes sense to just be done and ban all deals from them.

And no i'm not in the slightest bitter about getting my order cancelled. As the wife said as soon as I told her about it, email and personal detail harvesting/bait and switch seems to be the main goals of this company. No way was this an 'error' imho and if it were then it just shows gross incompetence.
#33
I really cant see myself how it can be possible for a 'technical problem' to cause so many titles to be mispriced at once, and until a satisfactory answer to this is given by the owners of blah/101 my personal opinion is that it must be a deliberate attempt to misprice and harvest details in order to acheive hits and top search engines - in otherwords an illegal con - and therefore I personally would approve of a ban for blah/101.

A misprice is a misprice, fair enough, and if I believed that was the case I'd say no more. Systematic mispricing to create hits is an appalling practice and should be frowned upon...

Just get over it all, who cares!... Its all a big game anyway.

Personally, I think both 101cd and Blah should be banned. Not just for today, but as previous posters have stated they have done this before. I didn't expect them to honour any deals, and i think threats of legal action are pointless.
As this seems to happen with 101cd too often, ban them and then there is no arguement, no-one posts the deal, no-one orders, no-one cares!
#38
I hope sites don't start getting banned willy nilly, if we banned every site that's ever screwed someone over or pissed some one off there would be none left.

As admin and the mods always seem to say, this is a community driven site, it is run by the members in a way....so next time someone posts a deal from these guys, if you feel strongly about it vote it cold and state why in the thread....if even a handful of you do that each time then the message will be loud and clear I think, but I don't see why anything 'official' has to be done, such as a ban.

Unless we can ban ebuyer also, cos they suck :);)
#39
Personally I think Blah should be banned just for promoting their own stock. If not why does everyone not just vote cold on any posts related to Blah/101.

It's not on a par with the Hamley's fiasco in the run to Christmas but no-one posted their deals for quite some time after & the few that did got a pretty frosty response.
Having come in on the main thread to comment, any chance of a comment about the discussion here Admin?!?!
