  I think the point is that it is a "custom" setting &, hence, may be different from the rest of the site browsing options.
  
  However, you may be right that it should default to whatever the existing setting is on the initial use of the [custom] tab.
  
  To be fair, it is not a huge problem.
  
  Plenty other issues with the site exist that cannot be resolved as quickly as simply resetting a viewing option.

  If I select "Text Only" it remembers this across the site and not just in "Hot".
  
  Are you saying your "Hot" tab displays "Text Only" (based on your custom selection) and the rest of the site for you shows "Full Details" as your view?
  
  If so, which skin are you using?

  Yes exactly that, standard skin, does the same with IE and firefox, cleared cookies - same
  
  not a major issue just odd that once you choose the text only preference, you have to choose it again

  I thought it was the other way round: viewing site in Full Details then clicking on Custom (which had been set to Text Only) but reverting to Full Details when clicking on something other than Custom. I thought if you viewed the whole site in Text Only it stayed like that unless you clicked on Full Details.
  
  I never use text only so I'm dibbing out of this one. My brain hurts.

  I do use "Text only". [custom], when I click it, shows the "Full Details".

  Yes text only is the only way to go for me, otherwise forever scrolling down a very long list,
  On a pc or when on the ipad its a must
  
  the only thing you don't see really is the picture, which does not matter when browsing for a thread to read
