I don't think the thread you linked to was 'spamming' as such, it just got a bit heated. I think it was a sensitive topic and as you will have seen, it had posters who view the strike and the R/M in different ways.
There is a 'spam' post here that is still going strong, I think they are on their third thread at the moment.
The Mods do try and keep most threads 'on topic' but it can be hard as some threads get more interest and more posts for them to 'check' on.:-(

No offence taken hun

There are some 'serious' posts that probably deserve spamming - like any post by 'student' for example and the one where someone had a go at Dino, it sort of immortalises the post and takes away the 'power' of the word from the OP.

I think that original post on that one was relatively hard for some peeps to make out which is why it went off topic (*assumption*), but i'm sure if you posted in there and raised the issue that it could potentially be quite an interesting thread and that you would like for it to be taken seriously then they will stop posting in it.

Everyones entitled to their opinion... so dont be worried about sharing it.

You just have to get used to it around here really, those who like to do it will argue that as long as it's in the 'misc/random/nonsense' section it's fair game...which is true. My general rule of thumb on here is if it's in that section and it's already passed 2 pages by the time I have seen it, don't bother even going in to it as it's just going to be 'those guys' having a laugh.

How else would you get to Solar Flare. Not that anyone notices and it was my birthday last week too. (hint)

Happy Birthday for last week Stora oh **********

I'm guilty of off topicness I know but If the op tells us spamers to get lost 9/10 we will sometimes though its just like conversation you have IRL and the topic changes as it goes along. sometimes randomness is a usful way to calm a thread down if its getting heated

but no offence taken ;-)

I agree, Bloody spammers :x

I couldn't care less if the old threads are deleted and my post count goes down to 1000 etc, It was never about post counts, It was about having a good chit chat and laughs.

I almost went because I seen it as spamming and it annoyed people, Then Jen said basically the above and shes totally right. :)

Nothing has been mentioned about people just trying to get their post count up :?

Its very easy for a thread to go off the original topic because one thing is picked up by someone and commented on and then the whole thing goes off on a tangent. Not always spamming its just natural progression of a conversation.

Thats what people seem to think the reason behind "spamming" is, Just to get a number up.

There was another thread about it. :)

That was my reply to MM when he asked more or less the same thing as Dino.

What cracks me up is that this thread has already been 'hijacked' by the usual suspects...point proven :whistling:

Oh lord, that's SO true. I do the same. If I see any thread in the Misc forum which, like you say, is already on page 2, you know it's already going to have nothing to do with the original subject, so there's no point trying to comment on it, because it'll now be full of people replying in smilies and talking about cats or something.
#16
Hmm... yeah. We may have to crack down on off-topicness IMO if people can't be reasonable. Some people just need to calm down a bit...

Look. It's not much to ask for that if somebody starts a thread about something that it STAYS about that thing or closely related.

You have your own threads for spammy talk. Just remember that there are 10-20 of you and another 48,000 members. It's not all about you guys and we can put a stop to it entirely if need be.

Just respect other people's threads.

Bit harsh isn't it?

If the post is about something serious 9 times out of ten, It will stay serious.

I agree with origional poster i have read many a thread recently and it has gone off topic by the usual suspects spamming.. does my head in!! There is a thread for that-the weekend thread. But other topics should remain in topic

Yeah, that one's good. :)

I think that's the point here, no one wants to stop anyone having fun...I definitely don't, but I don't think you guys realise how off putting and intimidating it is to newer members (and even older members who aren't part of the cool kids club), the whole 'off topic' section seems to belong to the same small group of people who's only interest is their own enjoyment on this forum.
#24
I've cut down on posting here lately and the clique element has been a big reason for it. There's the odd worthwhile deal still, but Misc section is just really a no-go.

I felt the same, but then just joined in occasionaly as everyone can do.
#26
Thing is, I'm sure a lot of us would like to join the spammy group of people and have a laugh but their threads move so quickly and there are so many established in-jokes we won't even know about, that it'd just take up too much time and effort hehe.
#27
ok guys I'm sorry I don't think any of us spammers would want anyone feeling like that. I don't consider myself in a clique I just like talking :-(
I'm trying to think how I started 'spaming' and can't but I've only been here since late last year not for ever. I like to think that anyone could join in this site like I did
sorry :-(

I've only been here since April this year, I jumped more or less straight into chit chat/debate and everyone was friendly enough.

Whenever there is a newbie in the weekend thread, We say hello almost instantly, If there is a newbie in one of the threads then most people will say welcome to the forum.
#29
I totally agree that it is naughty when threads are taken off topic..it's far easier to open a new one in the misc forum and carry on there and leave the post clear for those that wish to contribute in a serious manner.

I have been guilty myself and have had some posts removed by the mods...or a warning shot to stay on topic.

Maybe we need a new forum..."the C32 and friends fun factory" as I'm sure there will be many contributions from the so called spammers and "cool kids club"...and those females that enjoy a laugh and don't mind a little "pawing" as C32 calls it...feel free to join in when the Weekend Picture Thread is in swing....can be a bit of a laugh at times and very friendly.

Do you guys do it on purpose???
surely you can at least bite your tounge in the comments and suggestions forum. Usually a mod comes along pretty quickly when it goes off topic in here.

It is getting beyond a joke everyone, the site is becoming a lot harder to read when conversations are carried over away from the misc forum. Also serious discussion/requests for help are getting lost in the misc forum, I really think it would be a good idea to have a Help/Serious Discussion forum (ideally moderated to stop spam) and the Misc/Chat forum seperate, although I'm not sure how workable it would be.

I've no problems at all with the chatter and spam in the appropriate place but please try and keep it there!

Look how quickly most of the threads without the spammers bite the dust. Therein lies the answer. They have just run their course and there isn't much left to say.

In respect of serious discussions/requests, most if not all that I have seen over the time I have been registered have been answered within two or three posts, or some have rumbled on and on with its turning int o a full scale total difference of opinion which is good for debate, plus like with all converations in the REAL world humour alwasy gets injected, and it takes the heat out of the situation.

As the forum states it is misc and random its has become a major source of hilarity with some quite witty posts, so how would I want the forum to be, straight laced and dull, which in some respect it has been, but trying to moderate the humour could be a dangerous president, and I take issue with the word "spamming" no one is selling anything quite the opposite, Prissymiss is right some converations open and close and die, due to them being either answered or dull as dish water.

Also the word clique has been used... its a state of mind of the poster on that one as I invited a friend who has been through a rough time and they ha found it very cathartic, she did not get blanked or ignored far from it, she is now a regular poster. So the fourm has several uses and dont for one minute think things will change that much even though I notice that some posts have now been deleted, perhaps mods paying lip service to those who complain who knows..but worrying times?? Not really this is ony the interent ...the REAL WORLD IS OUT THERE >>>>>>>>

Likely that's more to do with the fact a lot of people have stopped bothering with that section though, than because it's the 'spammers' keeping the section alive. Several people have said in this thread alone they don't really hang out there any more.
