its pretty easy really, if it shouldnt be on the boards, then spam it, not really many reasons to be expire, as all expire does is add expired to the title, you can still post in it and it cannot be spammed off the boards, so not alot of reaons to hit expired in misc

True, but that doesn't stop the practice of it being used by an OP so "controversial" thread's can't be spammed.

if the op expires their own thread for the above purpose, it should be obvious to a mod and something should be said about it, it doesnt matter what is implemented on ere there is always those that will find a way to abuse the situation to their advantage

You would have thought so, though I have even seen it posted that someone has expired so it cant be spammed. Not seen that in the past few weeks, though that remark stuck in my mind as abuse.

i think some feel if you cant beat them, then join them

At the end of the day, the decision to remove a thread or post lies with Admin and Mods, therefore, surely all that is needed is an alert from members.

If this was the case, then the "Spam" and "Expire" buttons wouldn't be there for us to use.

The moderators actively encourage us to spam threads that we believe shouldn't be on the boards, and "Expire" threads that need expiring. If you are unsure, then as said earlier, leave it for others.

If the moderators had to do all the work through reports, it would increase their workload immensely, imagine the amount of faffing about if 6 or 7 members reporting a thread to be removed, when it would only take 2 high rep members to do it with no fuss.

There's an excellent thread on how to do it properly in "Misc" somewhere. :)

I think they don't tend to make the announcements until people start spotting them.....so maybe we'll hear something soon.
