Marking threads as 'Expired' without further comment (certainly in the "Feedback" forum) seems to a growing trend... this morning!

Some of my outstanding feedback threads have been marked in this state this morning & I have had to report each for re-activation.

Either somebody is attempting to clean-up the "Feedback" threads by closing them all (without further comment), one/more other members are randomly 'Expiring' threads, or there is a further site issue with threads being marked as 'Expired' without any intervention.

Just look on the first page of the discussed threads...

This one I also noticed had been marked as 'Expired' & the thread starter did not apply that status:

There are some examples of other recently 'Expired' threads on pages 2, most of page 3, & onwards.

It's OK... I understood your point.

How do you know your threads were 'spammed' because of the content that others disagreed with?

Did you check to see if other thread(s) already existed on the same subject matter before creating a new thread?

My post was commenting on the annoying trend of people writing in the deals sections "already posted" in so many deals. Its becoming a game for people looking for deals that have already being posted. But obviously the sad people with too much time on their hands to searach every deal to see if every deal has already been posted didnt like what I said and marked it as spam. Frustrating.

LOL wait wut?

---

I think the expire and spam counts have been lowered again. The chicken lover and her accomplices (sassie's new multi etc etc) have been spamming various threads in misc with ease of late.

Can a mod confirm the tipping points have been lowered again?

K bit confused here, regardless whether the people doing it are sad or not, if your deal is a repost within a month, it SHOULD correctly be spammed. Whats the problem?

You really should be looking to see if a deal has already been listed before posting it again.

However, if you miss a previous deal thread (as, arguably, it is easy to do as the Search facilities are far from ideal), that is what the 'Spam' link is for.

If I spot duplicate listings, out of courtesy to the thread creator I typically post a link to the existing deal thread & then click 'Spam'.

That rule is only there so the site does not get flooded. Who cares if it has been posted twice. 99.9% of people do not go out of their way to double post. Its a mistake, plus all of the posts that I see it on, I would never have known that offer had already been posted, so its been great that it was accidentally reposted. People are making it into a game. They are searching for every deal to see if its there already, so obviously they dont even know about the deal already bein posted if they have had to search for it. The rule has been taken the wrong way...

But why would you do a search for a deal to make sure it isnt a double post? Just leave it be, its not doing any hjarm, plus people reading the new deal probably hasnt seen the previous deal.

I care. I wanna see genuine hot deals. Not reposts. I gave you a chance because I really didn't think you were that stupid, but guess what - you are. The rules are there to keep the site clean and clear of 'fluff' - crap deals, duplicates, and to push the true hot deals to the top.

If you don't like the rules, go away and use another site.

Since I have so much time on my hands, I'll be following you around from now on waiting to spam your duplicates.

What an **** you are.

how is people commenting the deal has been already posted be wrong? there are too many lazy people who post deals without searching first. They need spamming ASAP so people get the message.

OP if those members weren't as vigilant, the forum would be full of duplicates and "new" deals would be easily missed. I know that's not what you want to hear sorry, but members are doing the right thing in pointing out if a thread is a duplicate :)

If one of your deal threads is being 'spammed' almost immediately after your have listed it, then the chances are that most of the regular site users have seen it many times & do not need to look for the information.

Yes, I take your point about making others aware because of the re-post, but if you think listing one deal twice is not a problem, what if all the 328257 total members did the same concurrently?

As mentioned above, you may "re-post" after a month has elapsed, otherwise the thread is considered 'spam'.

Aww look at little fanpages making gay jokes. Comedy gold.

I wasn't annoyed in the slightest at that thread getting spammed - it wasn't mine. It also got spammed not long before 5, so I was on my way anyway. We went to Frankie and Benny's in the end by the way rather than nandos. Hope this is more to your liking babycakes xx

I'm sure once you realise you're not gonna be asked to be a forum helper, you'll be asking for a requested-ban. Effectively serves the same purpose as the feature you request. Have you tried MSE?

Bigmaz, as everyone ^ says .. it is just amazing how many posts are duplicated ... for a popular deal that people get by email, there must be 10's of duplicates. Each one reduces the heat of the original one posted, reducing its prominence for other members and clogging up the board.

People just post that it's a duplicate out of courtesy TBH. All duplicates should be spammed, not expired.

I agree with you that there is no justification for spamming a discussion thread in misc though, if it's not offensive or inappropriate.

This kinda of relates to Chesso's post in Feedback about needing multiple people to expire.
Very often the reason why people post "already posted" isn't to annoy the poster but to enourage others to spam the thread for reasons that others have already explained.

Why would they go and expire loads of threads which aren't resolved in feedback?
If thats the type of 'help' they are going to be doing you might want to rethink having them. If I expired a load of threads for no reason I would expect an infraction, will they be getting one?

Maybe it was him that spammed my previous posts that was only stating my personal opinion. My experience on here, is that people have become reluctant to post deals, in the fear of getting idiots being rather intimidating saying how stupid the poster is in posting a duplicate. And all you guys having a go at me about this in the way you's are, it proves my point about how intimidating it is for "noobs" like me to come on and take part in the site. Did you read/understand the "Help" section on "Posting Deals", Martin?

Including, but not limited to...

Posting Deals

Who can post deals on HotUKDeals?
This website is for people who want to share good deals they’ve found or look for advice from other members. Anyone can post a deal here as long as they’re not an advertiser or merchant: HotUKDeals is not a promotional tool for businesses and companies and anyone found posting items for the purposes of personal gain will be banned from the site. We may occassionally remove deals if we feel the merchant in question does not have adequate contact and/or registration details. Generally speaking we only allow UK based companies, although allowances on the above will always be made for merchants who have a strong reputation with our members.

What kind of deals can I post here?
Any deals can be posted, but the site is all about the hottest deals available in the UK, so run a price comparison check before posting and ensure it’s not been posted within the last 4 weeks or it’ll be deleted as a duplicate post
