its not deal alerts as such...yes I'm getting the seefilmfirst one but I'm getting emails for subscribed threads.

Hello lumoruk,

You have comments on your subscribed thread "New Xbox 360 slim 250 gb HDD £139.99 @ Sainsburys instore on launch day"
imdave has just replied with the following:
I think even if this deal does happen now, more than half the stock will be snapped up by staff members.

I posted about this first thing. AFAIK this is breaking spam rules as I already chose to opt out. If I get anymore I'll look into it for definite and report if so but I'm pretty sure it breaks Rule 2 of the ICO's rules on emails

Casparwhite,

I recall your post regarding that message. It was scooped up amongst others (think it was the one where there were many expletives from another member quoted).

We know about the issue and as above, trying to implement a system fix asap.

As for anyone receiving emails, I've had a couple also, so I can understand the frustration.

It's not a deliberate action to send you email from posts you've been involved in, it's a glitch we're trying to resolve.

We'll keep you updated. Apologies if this results in another unwelcome email update.

*Update. It was deleted as it was wrapped around 10 or so repeated comments from a member who populated the thread with expletives. Apologies, but we are aware and hide from nothing.

Had the same problem and I unchecked EVERYTHING in "Customise deals & alerts" and it appears to have worked (touches wooden head).
.
Strangely enough it has remedied the fact I was NOT getting email notifications on subscriptions which I am now ?

Hope it might help ?

pretty sure it was a seperate post......to the 1 where i quoted the spamming member, or was it not?

so you remove a valid point because i asked why i was receiving unsolicited emails?

update: nice excuse......you saw the post but still chose to delete it. however relevent to the thread and it wasnt quoting anybody. ill say again Please DO NOT send me any more unsolicited emails. this is the 3rd time of asking, i shall be forced to take legal representation if i subsequently receive any more :{

casparwhite,

No, it was deleted in error. You made consecutive posts, one with the standalone issue you mention, and the other quoting the deleted post. It was bulk deleted in error as your posts were wrapped within 10+ posts from a rather annoyed member who filled the thread with expletives.

The post has been restored and we thank you all for your contributions to date. We'll get there asap.

Regards

aSB: Could all the members that do not wish to receive thread subscription e-mails simply update their registered e-mail address to a (centrally) site-provided HotUKDeals.com "catch all" address for the immediate future until the issue is resolved?

e.g.
[email protected]
or
[email protected]
or even
[email protected]
etc.

(Just one mailbox for everybody though)

Could you or your colleagues set-up a temporary "scratch" e-mail address & then inform everybody to update their settings accordingly?

When the issue is resolved you (the "Developer") could query every member's details that have this "catch all" e-mail address registered & contact them directly to inform them to re-update their details back to their preferred address.

BFN,

fp.

PS. I had to manually subscribe to this thread ("Subscription added successfully.") even though my personal settings are supposed to do this for me automatically.

I keep getting multiple alerts too. I have changed my email address to one I don't use often. Hopefully I can reset it when this problem is fixed.

Change is a good thing IMHO but you've made a right mess of this, you could just turn all alerts off temporarily (its simple enough to do) but you've chosen not too....

it was as I saw it, but it was nestled in between the disgruntled guy that was posting expletives, of which I reported & as quick as I was reporting them he was posting them back up again & one of your posts quoted him, so I may have inadvertently reported both your posts as well, my apologies if I did.

Why is everyone moaning and complaining instead of just adding the e-mail address in question to their block list temporarily and then removing it once the issue has been resolved? That seems a far more sane course of action than talking about threatening legal action and whatever else.

Cookiemonster I had a dozen emails in my inbox when I got in that morning...tres annoying but then I just changed my email address on here to go to my spam account so didnt bother me after that. I did however report to the ICO cause I wasnt happy about getting spam in the early hours

how many people need to fill in the form posted above before they take action? Is it one of those cases where aan investigation would take place if it went over a certain threshold?

im still getting damn emails - it did stop now they are back!!!
#31
You should not be getting any emails now. There was an issue where any new subscriptions made since the update defaulted to send emails. This has been fixed, and I have manually corrected your settings on your new settings. Sorry about any trouble that might have caused. There is also a link in the email where you can unsubscribe from email updates for the subscription for anyone else in the same situation.

Frustration ? Err no ... it's illegal, plain and simple.
I suggest you, and your cohorts spend less time deleting posts / threads, and go read up on the Privacy And Electronic Communications Regulations (2003), and that's just for starters.
Hiding behind "we're working on the glitch / on a bug hunt" doesn't exonerate HDUK

gizmouk,

We've apologised for the glitch, it's sorted now.

There was also a simple solution available to members troubled by the unwanted emails. A temp change of registration details on the profile would have sufficed.

When I receive spam from web sites I just log-in & change my registered e-mail address to one of those displayed on the site so that all spam is redirected to one of their own addresses, or to some fictitious address like [[email protected]].

Favoured sites that I know are experiencing problems & I would like to retain use of in the future I give them the opportunity to correct the issues; not threaten legal action.

I do take that approach with those sites that I do not wish to use again though.

That's not quite the same as the directive from the Privacy And Electronic Communications Regulations (2003).
Maybe now is the time to stop treating "your" membership with the complete and utter contempt "you've" got used to.
