  Simple suggestion is to make it a lot more visible when you have a new PM. Usually you get a popup box or a popup warning box @ the top of your screen, or some other eye attention grabber that you cannot miss when you have a new PM.

  
  
  Prior to the site being changed from the vBulletin Forum software (to the bespoke design/development), a "pop-up" message was displayed:

  I set the e-mail notification option (as described above), but I also look in the top right corner of the site page(s) periodically.

  iirc you get a little number next to your username, but whenever I go on hukd (several times a day) I never look at my username, just at whats on the page in terms of deals, i'm sure most people are similar..

  I can add that to the request queue, certainly. I can't guarantee an implementation though! I'll do that now.

  Perhaps, instead of re-implementing the previous vBulletin-supported feature, HD, you could simply use your usual notification banner (for "Likes" & site announcements) to alert a member to a receipt of a new "Private Message".
