Yeah, i found it last week, pointed it out to admin. I'm not sure about the legalities of doing that... ? (But thanks for the headsup anyway)

hmm ... Mr T Lewis making money from the sponsored link by piggybacking on the content from HUKD. How resourceful!

Cool,

mse asserts all comments posted on it's board, which i thought would have been the same for hukd.

What makes me laugh, is that not one deal on his site has had a comment added :p

He's not copying it - he's just using a similar method to RSS. Its all dynamic.

No different to what I do on my kids school website:

Just to prove a point, I will recreate this on this site.... Its what RSS is for!!!

Back in a mo!

OMG My mouth has dropped open.
Live is good - you are NEVER going to leave it there.

Yup. We've seen sites like this before. They aren't really a threat to us and as guv says they can help our Google ranking as they give credit for where they're from.

Thanks for reporting it though, it's always useful to know about these places. :)

You learn something new eveyday!:)

Wow, it is true. Wordpress sites do get indexed quickly by Google!

Tall-stories is my site. It's just a proof of concept as I was looking into aggregating bargain forum feeds as I wanted a single place to keep an eye on stuff. All the posts link back to the forum they came from; heck even the "sponsor advert" isn't linking to a live account; there's no revenue generation from links here (unlike HUKD/ Quidco ;) If i'd wanted that i'd have stuck up some Google Adsense and made a ton of money. Props to Duckmagicuk2 and guv for the considered response in this thread; of course you are right; Google aint fooled by someone aggregating RSS content and no harm will come to HUKD (though the BBC are slightly different as they do asset certain rights over their RSS content).

A couple of points worth making, some light-hearted some more thoughtful. Firstly there's a wider debate going on regarding the copyright position of syndicating RSS feeds and republishing in general. It's not agreed on whether it's acceptable or not, and it's certainly not been challenged in law, either in the UK or US. It's not one I thought i'd be thinking about before i saw this thread tonight, but interesting nonetheless.

Secondly, sites like MSE do not assert copyright anyway over forum content; they assume a "non-exclusive perpetual license" which means that the owner of the copyright (ie. each individual poster) has to make a request for their republished post to be removed from wherever it has been republished (I'm not speaking for HUKD here as it's unclear what their terms of service are).

Thirdly, I don't live in Bristol any more. I found it a nightmare and moved to the seaside during the Summer, which is far more civilised. As I write this however I am in the most gorgeous room in the Hoxton Hotel, which I reserved during the £1 sale of course. Anyone wishing to debate UK copyright law over breakfast then you are more than welcome to meet me in the lobby. I'll even buy you a Hoxton Hotel bacon butty...

As for my site, I've taken it offline for now; will open it up again when i've found a way for Google to stop indexing it so it's for my eyes only!

Cheers

Thomas
