Why I the Mobile site so bad? You cant edit your posts, quote, it I a rubbish experience compared to the standard site, and in the last few days I have noticed the option has gone which allowed me to switch from mobile to standard.I am using a Windows Phone Lumia 920. The standard view worked well before the option disappeared. Note however my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 still has the option to switch to standard, but it is my work phone.What is going on?

Use this link:
[ http://www.hotukdeals.com/?dforward=true ]

That link changes nothing on my Lumia 920.

Have you tried tapping on each comment? On the new skin, should bring up, reply, report, edit, like and delete buttons at the bottom of the comment rather than the top, as on the desktop version. At least it does on Android anyway. None of these functions are available on the app however,

Options for your viewing pleasure & a[m|b]usement:

[ http://www.hotukdeals.com/nfecookietoggle ] (the "New Front End" or "new responsive HUKD pages")

[ http://www.hotukdeals.com?tsv=2011-09 ] ("old skin" just prior to it being changed in September 2011)

[ http://www.hotukdeals.com?tsv=latest ] or simply [ http://www.hotukdeals.com?tsv=0 ] (the "latest" pre-"NFE" design)

For mobile users:

Scroll to the bottom of the mobile site page & click 'Standard', or bookmark the full version of the site:

[ http://www.hotukdeals.com/?dforward=true ]

Then use one of the options above.

If all of those fail, please state the following where you are experiencing the issue:

(Include make/model/manufacturer & version reference details)

* Hardware/Device used
* Operating System used
* Web Browser software used
* Any add-ins, or other browser-based extensions

Additionally, if you can provide screen images of what you do see, this would also help.

Thanks.

HotUKDeals.com does not host images that you wish to post, but it does not stop you hosting them elsewhere:

Why does everyone think it's fanpages site today?

If only :D
#12
To be honest, I know a layout change brings out the angry mob but as someone who predominately uses the site via a mobile, the recent changes are massively better
#13
Are you actually using the mobile site, or the standard site on a mobile?

If the latter then fanpages has already given you the answer

http://www.hotukdeals.com/nfecookietoggle

Click that link and the website will return to "normal".

As one who has absolutely no interest in using any HUKD mobile app, but who has to suffer the appallingly bad postings which emanate from them, can I suggest that rather than try to persuade folks that 'all is well' someone gets on to producing something more fit for purpose that meets the users' needs and the readers' needs.

See what I mean? It just can't be anything wrong with the apps can it???

So, for some unknown reason, it satrted about a week ago, but each new day I load this site on my iPhone, it shows up in mobile mode, now I used to just click standard view at the bottom, but that's no longer there.

So I now have a bookmark with this link "http://www.hotukdeals.com/nfecookietoggle"

To go back to standard view.

It's anoying but why is it resetting to mobile view every day without having the actual standard button any more, is it hidden somewhere else?

It doesn't have the m. Before. It's just defaulting to some mobile version or view each day.

The dforwardtrue link doesn't work for me, I have to use the cookie toggle, I've cleaned cookies, re logged in etc to no avail.

In that case, it is not the "Mobile" site.

Again, you have just confirmed that you are using the "New responsive" design; the "New Front End" skin that will be the only way to view the site's content in a web browser in the imminent future.

Ah so the dodgy view is how hotukdeals wants people to view it from now on, and is the new standard view?

It's a pile of erse to use this site on a mobile.

what a strange thought process they must have.. We all use this site to snap a bargain deal on a phone or device good enough to run full web pages, yet, they force the slimmed down version on us anyway...

It isn't specifically a "slimmed-down" version of the site... unless we are talking about something completely different.

The fact that a single view of the same content is (potentially) possible across all devices, all operating systems, & all web browsers, is the ultimate goal, I would imagine.

However, as noted (for the past 3+ months), this is far from the case.

Furthermore, the resistance to the change is very high (in relative terms).

PS. I have just posted a cut-down image of the "New Responsive" design in another thread:

[ http://www.hotukdeals.com/feedback/site-defaults-a-horrible-mobile-site-desktop-one-2138679?p=24361133 ]

Is this what you are seeing that you were describing as the "Mobile" version, & now consider it as a "slimmed-down" presentation?

no, the view of the page i get on my iphone is exactly as the mobile one is, it definitely does not have an m in the web address either.

i have to use the cookie toggle to show full web version, which is how i have always viewed it on my phone since the 2G

Just so we are clear, does what you see on your iPhone look similar to this?...

If not, please post what you are seeing (as guesswork is difficult due to the fact I do not have access to any Apple devices).

That's what I get every day on my Sony Z3C too.

I either toggle the NFE off then reapply the new skin or just move on to a different site.

Thanks.

That is not (the/a) "Mobile" view (or "skin").

That is the "New responsive" ("New Front End") design being forced on every user (desktop, laptop, mobile [Smartphone/tablet], etc.).

It is the default view of the site to new members (& those that do not currently have a client-side cookie for the "tsv" value for the hotukdeals.com domain name within their local web browser).

Yes, when you can't make your app work, make your desktop site look like a phone app. Only in HUKDland. :p

Like I said in one of the other threads, my bookmarks include tsv suffixes, so it doesn't (always) seem to matter if a tsv value is included.

The "tsv" setting will remain in effect until it is purposely reset *, or when the cookie expires (usually after one week since it was created/set).

* Some of the "Black Friday", "Cyber Monday", "Flamedeer", "Boxing Day", & "January Sales" pages purposely set the "tsv" value for the "New responsive" design to be the overriding "skin" regardless of the web browser's previous setting.

That is why, over the duration of the last three months, members have had issues at different times (as not everybody viewed the same pages at the same time, & those that logged-out of the site reset their individual settings at the point they logged-in again).
