I use FF and not had any "slow time"....

Opera = those who have it on their mobile and prefer it then the above

Would love to pick and choose what browser I use, but sadly work PC is locked so I am stuck with whatever they give me, however the site now seems to be running at a much more respectable speed so I am happy now :)

Yes Chrome is a little faster than FF but the text rendering is awful.

Sounds like a Steve Jobs type solution to me.

Jeez... dont give a ready made excuse not to fix it!

Besides... I dont have a choice at work.. its IE6 or nothing. Have you seen the state this site looks in IE6? I dont think the developer has.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/feedback/fao-developers/717944

I love looking into code and it's funny how bad the code is on this site, no IE based stylesheets.

If someone can get me a decent screenshot of IE6 on here, I will have a go at making a stylesheet that can be used in a greasemonkey script.

It's not about hiding the fact it's crap, it's just making the site bearable for the users... I would rather switch browser than constantly whinge when 90% of the time it's down to the users choice of browser (yes I know a lot of large companies still use ie6).
#10
Changed to googlechrome this morning and it`s much faster. No delayed typing now either.(thumbsup)
#11
Cheers Guv, If anyone can get a screenie of IE6 then it would be good, but if not I will find a way.

I have IE8 but I don't seem slow.

I get this when I try to subscribe to a thread.
{ "result":"error", "messages":
ERROR_NO_WIDGET_TYPE_SELECTED
}
and I listed this in the feedback thread, no shortcut so I'll put it all here.
Just to reiterate.

Has any thought been given yet to the default size of images? Can we have an option for bigger ones?

All the reply boxes are too small in width and height and it is like typing into a void and is difficult or impossible to proof read
This is especially true of the report box.

Also I haven't seen any further mention/feedback of the inability to both report and to spam, which is necessary if a duplicate is being spammed etc.

Does the spam button even work? Do we need more that the previous two to effect a spam?

'Go to unread' button either doesn't work or just takes you to the top of the last page.

Vote/heat takes a very long time to register.

Quoting is very hit and miss. There is no option to quote an image. There is no option to quote the OP, which I thought might have been introduced. The quotes need to be separated out so you don't get a list of names and then a list of their quoted statements.

No smilies.

No subscribe to thread.

No 'follow' from activity section.

Text is too small and font isn't great.

What has happened to the like feature?

The page is still too 'empty' - increasing the font size should help. No option for colour in text?

Still got the irritating .... when there are a lot of pages in a thread so that it difficult to get to the page you want.

No way to get easily to a specific post in a thread.

No shortcut capability for posts - that used to be very useful indeed.

There is more but that will do for now for me!

Are you saying that if I change to firefox again ( I had to once in the past when HUKD did something or ofher to fonts!) then all these problems will be solved???
#13
fonts = maybe cos IE can be a bit of a pain
smiles = work fine here on FF

edit: Just wrote a huge reply and it deleted itself

I now have a screenshot of IE6 so will come up with a stylesheet to attatch to a greasemonkey script.
#14
I'll have a go on firefox.
Thanks for the advice.

Rep and thumbs up smilie *wink*

Is this a joke or serious?
You can subscribe to threads etc etc in IE8??
#17
Back to report that I can subscribe to threads in firefox and use smilies and the reply box extend. I still don't like the font much.
Good advice faevil. I'll use this browser until HUKD have sorted out things for IE8.

THANK YOU.
#18
I`m just testing out firefox too after trying googlechrome all day. It was great and fast, but like chesso says, we have the bigger reply box in firefox and hopefully the smilies work too.;)

I don't see why anyone should have to change browsers because site developers can't do their job "tuts"

I still can't use my AOL browser it's too slow,i think the avatars slow it down.

I'm mostly sorted in IE 8 now,i just don't like using it!!

IE and isp browsers are known for being outdated, and building sites to work in them are a right royal pain. If everyone upgraded their browsers and stopped using anything lower than ie8 then all the known problems disappear.

The hukd code needs a total rewrite, spent an hour or so tidying it up so I can read it and it's so bogged down it's unbelievable.

I don't disagree Debz. I have used IE for years and it's second nature but my IE8 W7 is disfunctional ATM, so I will have firefox as my default until the development team gets it all sorted.

why on earth should people be expected to change browsers just cause this site doesnt work right on IE? What about people at work? You cant change the browser then! MOST companies use IE6...not some or a few but most....the vast majority!!

All windows based PCs come pre-loaded with IE, most people are familar with IE. People who dont know and do know computers use IE. Only people with a real preference (and at least some knowledge) use anything else. IE is THE most common browser, THE most well known, THE most easily available and THE most compatible browser...

so to say you should change it if HUKD doesnt work well on it is HILARIOUS to say the least...majority of people will either not bother or stick with it...I dont think that 200K+ users are suddenly going to switch to something that HUKD runs better on

now whos taking this too seriously?

you need to actually realise something. This place isnt here for your entertainment...its a business, this has been done so HUKD gets better coverage....Facebook/Twitter integration so more people see it, iPhone use is a priority obvious by the design...the changes have been made NOT for easier use etc of current users...but to bring more punters in and earn Paul more £££

+1 on all of that and the last comment, people are naive when saying change it back, change it back, why did you change it. Obviously it has been changed for expansion make more money etc.

Hope the IE issue gets resolved soon as I can check the site at lunchtimes at work haha as IE6 is all we have :(

+2 This site has become a joke since its "upgrade" compatibility across the range of browsers should be a priority within the new version.

Chris, it's not telling people they have to change, but telling them if they want to view hukd then they should consider it. I know a lot of companies still use ie6 as their it departments don't want to upgrade their systems.

If a website I use doesn't display in my browser, I test in another until they fix the site for my former browser, saying I am not gonna change cos I don't want too is big headed and ignorant. It's like saying I won't take my toyota into be fixed until they have fixed every single issue and I know no more issues will arise.

IE doesn't come preloaded anymore one IE7,,, You get a choice of what to use. I know IE is the majority browser but if an issue is just with a certain browser, is it not better to spend 5 minutes downloading another to let you use that site, than keep bloody moaning day in, day out for weeks until they fix it.

HUKD has made a major **** up, there code is crap, there testing is atrocious and if I released this to a client I would'nt be paid. But moaning isn't going to get it fxed any quicker.

If you want to view hukd with speed and more functionality upgrade, if not, and like to be a whinging baby like ODB then stick with IE.

The site needed an update imho, it was dated and it was a nightmare for the devs to add more functionality, it needed a facelift BUT they should have totally rewritten the code base rather than patch it up. They have made a right mess of the code of the site, meaning slower load times, javascript errors, non functioning functionality and a beta development that hadn't had chance to fix any bugs and properly test the new site.

I don't know who gave the site the go ahead, whether it was paul who wanted it live no matter what, or the devs didn't their tasks on time. Just keep reporting bugs and they will quash them. While they do that , use another browser and just browse the site quickly, and

Just thought I'd drop in the browser stats for people to have a look at. For me I happy that it doesn't work with IE6 because it will be another kick in the groin for the outdated security colander of the browser world. Also will stop all those public sector workers spending my tax money playing on the net when they should be working.

Browser Statistics Month by Month
2010 IE8 IE7 IE6 Firefox Chrome Safari Opera
June 15.7% 8.1% 7.2% 46.6% 15.9% 3.6% 2.1%
May 16.0% 9.1% 7.1% 46.9% 14.5% 3.5% 2.2%
April 16.2% 9.3% 7.9% 46.4% 13.6% 3.7% 2.2%
March 15.3% 10.7% 8.9% 46.2% 12.3% 3.7% 2.2%
February 14.7% 11.0% 9.6% 46.5% 11.6% 3.8% 2.1%
January 14.3% 11.7% 10.2% 46.3% 10.8% 3.7% 2.2%

We will see on next months stats if HUKD has had a significant influence on browser usage! X)

Edit: Nice to see formatting issues are here to stay at HUKD! (rolls eyes)

Its THE biggest browser so hardly likely to stay un-usable for long on IE

Your whole post and all your threads are moaning...but then your accusig others of doing it!...just wait ffs it will get sorted soon, stop crying about it and keep it to the main thread rather than stickig up continual threads

Seriously...this little vendetta you have against me has to stop, you do have a voice of a 9 year old...I said it, get over it...

Lots of boring crap here, but basically: the update sucks, and the update doesn't work. To be fair, I wouldn't change my browser for one site, and hotukdeals is broken in various ways in all browsers anyway.

so ODB/faevil: Lets agree to agree with me, and I'd say thats argument over.

I am not whinging and have no vendetta's so :p

1) I don't use IE and haven't in 2 years +
2) Slow site / crap site doesn't bother me as I don't use half the features they are missing
3) The whole idea was to stop people moaning about trivial things that can be fixed within a few minutes.

I wouldn't work for them, as the site is beyond my scope, I deal with smaller sites and smaller companies. If I was interested I would send an email outlining my plans so FAIL on your part.

Anyways I'm off to do something constructive

Umm cos I know what I am talking about? IMy comment is that I wouldn't work on a vbulletin site as I have no experience of vb. And all the mods to the forum use PHP which I am not fluent in.

I can give you a HUKD'er who has used me to build there website and is more than happy. I know what I am talking about but I know my limits to my coding skills.

Will probably use the site less often.

FF makes it better but can't fix terrible coding, I haven't tested on my netbook yet but seen a few posts from people saying the site doesn't display fully. It's a coding issue and not a browser issue.

I don't agree with that when it's the site that's at fault.

PS. I was using Microsoft Internet Explorer (8.0.6001.18928) yesterday whilst viewing the Microsoft.com web site.

One page failed with Javascript errors every time I tried to load it.

Mozilla Firefox (3.6.6) had no problem with it.

Chrome should fix most of the gremlins on the site, so adding FF will not make much difference. It's the poor site at fault for your issues and not the browser.

The OP says about slow loading and script errors, and not display issues, a new browser may fix these issues but it's not guaranteed like you have found out.

Unfortunately he is going to have to put up with the crappy site layout on his netbook until they fix the bugs as it's beyond a simple browser change.
