What were the other Items?

What were the other Items?

A HP laptop from Ebuyer and yet another thread on Google checkout.
I wouldn't have been suprised if the Google thread had been locked or merged but deleted!
#4
Thats probably why then, Think there has been a bit of a crack down on Ebuyer deals using GC.

Only one of them was an Ebuyer deal and the Google Checkout is optional. I can't say I've noticed a crack down on Ebuyer Google deals!
[mod]#6
It's probably been merged with another Ebuyer deal and as for the others they have probably been moved to check for self promotion etc.
[admin]#7
I think they have all been removed because of issues with self-promo.

Thanks for the replies.
There was someone speculating in the Corsair thread that one of the posts was from the vendor in disguise. I couldn’t see that it could be proved either way but I can see that you guys don’t take any prisoners do you? :w00t:

If, by that you mean we are very strict on self-promotion, then yes, we take no prisoners.

I meant that it seems as if there is a fairly strong suspicion that a deal is based on self promotion that you will kill it, even though you can’t be sure.
I just count myself lucky that I saw the Corair deal before it was pulled and ordered before the price went up.

If I"m thinking of the right deal SmilingCrow there were like 3 members in that thread talking up the merchant and giving information on stuff like stock levels because they happened to be "best friends" with the guy who runs it. Plus the price shot up immediately. It was an amateur ebay seller and not much more.

In the case of a first post from a brand new member from a brand new company, yes, we always check every single one of these out, even if that means it may be out of the forum for a short while.

But all others, we generally have evidence that it is self-promo, even if it is evidence we cannot share here, due to the data protection act etc.

Thanks for taking the time to reply as I can see more clearly now what your position is and why you took the action you did.

With hindsight it was highly suspicious. I consider myself even luckier now at having them honour the price for 10 sets of the RAM.

Understood.

It was the HP laptop deal at Ebuyer for £299 that surprised me the most at being pulled as I couldn’t see anything controversial about it and it didn’t seem to be a duplicate deal. One last question; how do you handle duplicate deals? If the thread has received a page of posts will you still delete it?

Finally, I do appreciate your strategy and thanks for all the good work.

Unless the information it contains is sufficiently changed, or there has been a certain amount of time elapsed since the original post, the duplicates will still be deleted.
