just because someone votes something hot which you dont agree with doesnt make them an "idiot"
#5
People vote things hot or cold for a variety of reasons and not necessily on the price.......thats just the way HUKD works.
#6
Are you the Mecca of hot?!
#7
an army of idiots

I love how people do not have anything factual to back up their opinion.

look through the latest HOT deals, deals were going hot at the rate of 10 a minute at about 2am today, there pages and pages made hot all within a couple of minutes, I repeat - Idiots
[mod]#10
shame i cant vote this hot....

weeesht coco!

I agree actually. There are too many hitting the Hot threshold. We are going to turn it up higher and also play with the algorithm to make it harder to hit the max vote power.

I'd personally keep the hot threshold close to where it is (100?) and lower the max vote a bit (along with making it harder to hit) - having the threshold somewhere near 100degrees sort of makes sense to me...

I thought the algorithm took into account the number of deals reaching the hot threshold and lowered or increased the level automatically ie very few hot deals would lower the threshold to 90 degrees, lots would increase it to 100 degrees......

No we've set the hot threshold statically. Not a bad idea to make it dynamic except that might confuse people?

Thanks for listening mr admin

Thanks for listening mr admin

Mr Admin sir to you sonny....

I agree with jah. a +9 vote (almost ten percent of front page hot) is a bit much. I would think it should be five max but take a lot of posts/deals/rep to get there... There must be 10k or more at least with a +9 vote

should be done 1 point per person, why should someone who posts only on the misc section have 9 degrees?

good point!

how many deals have you seen deals go 1000+ only to see further down the thread it was a one off end of aisle, one store, one item deal lol

dont even get me started on all these latest future dated deals which 99% of the time prove to be false - good way for +ve rep I suppose :)

solution : only allow voting for future dated deals when the date actually arrives!

Well according to this (taken from Emma's help thread) there is a bit more to it than that

There are several factors which dictate the impact your vote will have, as explained by Admin below:

admin:
The voting rep is based on the temperature of deals you have submitted, the time registered, number of posts, and forum rep. The first is by far the largest and the other factors are there to balance it out and give some voting rep to people who spend their time helping others etc in the forum.

So if you want to have a larger impact voting for deals, your best bet is to start posting your own hot deals, and the hotter they are voted, the more impact you will have when voting.

It might smooth out some of the peaks and troughs we sometimes get but the algorithm would have to measure the activity over 24 hours (eg to stop the only one deal is posted in the small hours of the morning being hot) and I'm not sure how that would work out....

Be simpler to do as others have suggested and reduce voting power to 5 or 6 - bit of a come down from the old 12 degrees but with a larger membership a lower level would be sensible.

Just to add - since this thread was created the voting powers have been changed...........

So if you suggest something and Admin agrees then something might actually happen. The OP got a result....

Too many supermarket grocery deals like 20p off a box of Bran Flakes etc, basically stuff that's regularly on offer.

I guess hot is relative.

Hotness is in the eye of the beholder
