http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/201695/calling-in-misc-economists

These are just 2 examples of which were on my recent activity or front page of the misc as posting.

I think we should either:

Suspend/Ban members who take threads off topics:)
or
When creating a thread, were you can pick "topic" and choose if the thread is "nonsense, clothing, Finance" etc, add one called "Serious" or something familiar, then people will know not to go off topic. I think the admin was right, when you start being less strict on here people just have a field day.

thanks :)

Indeed they do, indeed they do :whistling:

is that not you? ... seconded LOL

The thing is, no one knows what the topic is when replying.

So the fact that you have selected "Serious"(If it were added) would not be known.

yeah that is true.

I think we need something so that members know not to turn it into a chat thread, maybe put (no chat thread) (serious thread) in the title, so the usual suspects know not to make it into a chat thread?

any ideas would be appreciated

in the first link the op's question was answered straight away, so if they were bothered about it going off topic they should have closed, besides we were only having a bit off fun :p & i think hukd needs a bit of fun now, compared to all the nastiness that has gone on on here lately....

gotta disagree. I'm not impressed as I thought I would be with the new Metal Gear Solid!

And I wouldn't use Littlewoods again

I suppose Admin would have to sanction something, or have a "Serious" forum.

Some comments that I deem offensive are not removed when reported(e.g calling someone's mother), so I don't see that off-topic posts will be removed, and the poster warned.

It would be easier for the OP to post in the thread to say look I want this on topic please stop. Then if that request is abused we can act on it.

As it stands we generally have no idea what the OP wants and have been yelled at before for taking action on off topic posts when the OP wanted them.

I agree with Cheerleader.

BG you are one of the worst culprits of this so I really don't know how you have the nerve to comment on people going "off the subject". Honestly some people............

thanks nikki

I still think there is room/need for an extra forum - one for random nonsense, chat, congrats posts and games etc, and another one for serious discussion, help requests etc.

yeah I agree, during the busiest times in the misc, you can create a post, and within 2 mintues its on the 2nd page, some people may not even get a chance to see your thread and reply helpfully.

ooo - u risking a ban, sheriff.

And if they hadn't gone off topic, they would have been 2 of the most interesting threads of all time

I agree - good suggestion, but I also think that because deal requests is rather underused it could be renamed something like 'Advice wanted' and it could all be serious. That forum works pretty well just now.

did any one see big brother last night i missed it what happened

Yeh I saw it. I started reading this thread and got bored so watched the recording I had made instead. Afterwards I watched some paint dry! Decorating can be a real pain! I'll be so glad when I get it finsihed.

Anyway, sorry about that, I've gone off topic. Nothing really happened in Big Brother, though they did argue a lot and make lots of pointless comments! Mind you, its quite embarrasing the way some of them suck up to Big Bother dont you think?

stay on topic please
ahh nothing good ever happens on big brother anyway

I also like this idea, would save work for the admin/mods making a new section, and it makes sense

It seems even when I try to make the forum a better place by making suggestions on helping the site people still find time to be abusive :)

I totally agree with you there!!

C'mon Admin....its been requested plenty of times for a seperate help forum....pretty please! :) With a cherey on top? I'll even offer to moderate it for you! :-D

Oh yea....I agree with some topics going off topic :whistling:

Agreed, always would have been good to see a separate Help Forum, I think it would be a great benefit to the HUKD Community.

Mind you at the moment with all the juvenile abuse, thinly veiled insinuations and general aggression to each other if I were Admin I'd be tempted to close down Misc. altogether. :x
#31
what do you think admin? changing the name of the deal request forum to general help or something? we got some positive feedback from the members saying it would be a good idea?

If you look at my op, I said that don't turn into a chat thread or something that wasent on-topic, I know some of my threads are a bit "off the wall" but they are all very serious , and in post 4 I have given a very good reason to why I am doing this. the same person continues to press on throughout the thread.

Face it BG1 anyone that dares to question or disagree with your personal opinion is slated by you and accused of going off-topic.

Unless there is another breakdown in the database, it would appear your post has been pulled. I would complain to Admin if I was you and ask why the Mods keep pulling your threads. Seems to happen an awlful lot of times.

Its that its gets so many replies I think it slows down the server, so the ad-mods just archive it:-D

OK thanks. It's good to know if that's the reason. Is that why you ask for your threads to be locked too - to help the servers from being overloaded? I know someone has suggested it was because you didn't want to reply to awkward questions. I never believed that though.

Just like real life conversation, sometimes things go off topic and then eventually work there way back to the matter at hand.
