I like it.

If sigs were still allowed then your 'services' could have been 'advertised' on every post you make. Obviously as happened, the sigs got used for self promotion & what you're suggesting has the capability to suffer the same abuse.
I know you've offered & helped people on motor trade & finance in the past & spotted Edi's post in misc but even you had to pre-face your post with "I'm not selling a car" to explain that you had no vested interest.
I like the idea of members being able to offer specialist help in their own 'fields' but just don't see how it would work in practical terms.
Perhaps this should turn into another call for a seperate help forum (that could maybe be catagorised) so you could just have a quick scroll through 'Motoring help' which would obviously take only a fraction of the time that you would otherwise spend trawling through misc & random??!?!

I think it's a good idea.
How about implementing this idea in the 'help' forum, if it ever happens. A 'sticky' at the top with posters field of 'expertise'?

I like it too. :)

You missed the point I think charliethirtytwo. Members could add an area to their profile and then we can use that data in different ways...maybe it could be looked up on a experts page, or we could automatically notify you on certain deals that fit with your expertise, things like that.

urm, cough, hum, well i suppose i could offer my services :giggle:

Presumably all the possible different areas of expertise could be combined into a list which users can select options from, which would prevent the possibility of self-promo/advertising. Could be a really good idea if its implemented well.

What is your field of 'expertise'?
#9
I like it too. I think (for what its worth) that this idea has real potential and the resulting list would be invaluble for other users. Now the best place to home this list???? What about a help forum Paul :giggle:

Cheers for the feedback! I was deliberating whether to post it or not but glad that I have now.

i think this is an excellant idea

The idea sounds good in principle but I don't think "expertise" is a good term to use - implies professionalism. I think something along the terms of Journalistic Advice is better to avoid any liability should the advice being given being well wrong.

Totally agree seancampbell, was thinking about that after I posted it. Possibly something along the lines of 'experience in the field of' or 'good understanding or interest of'. If 'expertise' is used then it may turn ugly in the legal sense if something was to go belly up.

Areas of interest could be a good one....nice idea btw.

Fantastic idea Scouser!

Agree with mega - Area of Interest

It will prevent anything being misconstrewed
#16
How about 'Area of Knowledge' - less official than 'expertise' but better than 'interest' imho, because being interested in something doesn't necessarily mean you know your stuff on the subject.

This is a great idea. Like dino says, a help forum in conjunction would be good. Especially if you could select a "field" and it'd PM/email all of those users with a link to that thread. :D

I too think it's a really good idea.
