think this should be in misc lol

i agree clarification on this would be good as not fair to impose a rule without anyone knowing about it, very unfair

thanks ILP.....it makes little sense.

if u cant bump these threads then why not lock them

very good idea

I don't think threads should still be there is you cannot bump them or add to them, this just causes confusion as like you said when do you know you can't 'bump' or add to them anymore?
#5
"please use the contact us button"

MB did you get an infraction/ban because of the bumping off old threads?
who give it to you?
#6
i only ask as they should really explain why it went the way it did when you bumped an old thread, i bumped the oldest one i could find 4 years summit, i didnt know until as soon as i done it you said you were in trouble for it no one told me off?!?!

persoanlly, I didnt realise it was not allowed to bump old threads. Suspect most others dont either. If true, then why dont they just get deleted.

The rule regarding bumping old threads without good reason is listed in the HUKD Code of Conduct under Section II - Spamming :
* Bumping old threads without good reason is not permitted and will be classed as spamming.

We don't lock every thread over a certain date because of a number of factors. Some old threads have posts in them for a legitimate reason reason eg :
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4462303#post4462303

It's much easier to review a new post in an old thread to see if it's spam, than to review every old thread once they reach a certain age to see if they should be locked or if they should be left open for potential replies. Just think how many threads are created each day on HUKD & each day that many posts would reach an age that could classify them as being 'old' & would potentially need to be reviewed before locking.

It is only actually a problem if people don't follow the Code of Conduct Rule & post in old threads for no reason, & if they do then the rule applies & their posts will be dealt with accordingly.

Hope that helps clarify another possible point of view. Thanks.

thanks for reply sigma...defo agree that deals should remain unlocked..my question is directed towards MISC section. surely none of those need to remain open if u cannot bump them....and as stated i bumped those that were fun facts/ jokes etc..... so not just a random new story or chat thread from back in the day....

furthermore the thread u have highlighted is only a month old.... my one was over 3 years.... more like 4...so maybe in misc u should have a automatic lock on threads x number of months or years..... i mean im oo worried about buming anything past a few weeks now in fear of being suspended!! :w00t:

MISC has a lot of technical & information posts as well as the fun stuff, so again they'd need to be reviewed probably. Basically if the new post is relevant to the thread we won't infract no matter how old & we'd tend to look at the content & relevance of the post bumping the older thread, whether it was 3 months old or 3 years old & also how many threads were being bumped at once & the reason behind that etc.

It doesn't happen very often though, & any infraction would only be based on a number of factors relevant to the specific posts which would be reviewed by the MOD looking at the thread. Sorry if I'm being long winded though ;-)

Makes sense to me

No idea why someone would want to bump an old thread unless they had something to add to it anyway.

i dont think misc threads should be dealt with strictly in terms of bumping compared to other places in the forum such as fs/ft or deals.

think it was a harsh suspension also, so what if sum1 rebumps an old thread, some of them are funny.

so u can bump old jokes but not too many...is there a maximum?...do u see where im coming from....boundaries are very blurred and it seems that there should be something more solid down as a rule and not dependng on mod's mood...iykwim:)

Last week you bumped 6 or 7 threads in Misc (in the space of about 10 or 15 minutes) - all of which were over 3 years old......................you might expect one or two but six or seven at once?

Some people like to do it simply to cause confusion as many people won't notice the older date when posting, hence the practice 'grave-digging' is not allowed on many forums.

I have bumped old threads in the past, but only one every few months, bumping any more than one is spamming in my opinion. Notice it says thread s if you bump a thread its not a problem, and adding to it saying this is funny is a good reason.

"* Bumping old threads without good reason is not permitted and will be classed as spamming. "

There a simple solution - start a new thread called "Blasts from the pasts", "Misc Classics" (something like that) and post links to the old threads in there. That way the title makes it clear these are old threads and avoids any confusion and you can make as many posts in the thread as you like (if the mods agree but I can't see why they would disagree)

maybe add you cannot bump the linked threads, as from what i have seen people post a link to another thread, then others bump old thread - lol
