I agree ... the site definately seems to have lost some of the great finds of the past.
#2
Nope, lovin' the food posts here  ;-)

Doesn't seem that different to me tbh. You always did get a load of chaff with the wheat. But people on high fibre diets will tell you chaff is a good deal too:-D

maybe its just because its January.

I do think some posters have become desperate to post though ... regardless of if its hot or not.

Hi there,
ive just found this site and saved 110 pounds off a holiday. Im going to post an amazing discount code on disney stuff in a few mins. hope you like it. Its 80% off the items and the postage to uk is very reasonable.
#5
But with the new site, it's easy to get rid of the rubbish.

You could easily set the deals level at 30, and only get all the hot deals and not have to worry about anything else going on with the site.

Why don't you make it fun then vibeone and find and post some deals yourself ?
4 out of 5 of your last threads have been moaning about something or other.

It'll only become fun again when you're prepared to get a buzz out of it.

Probably not what you want to read but what the heck, I'm fed up of posts that are just plain negative rather than constructive in how to improve things.

It's too damn easy to whinge, challenge yourself and be positively involved.
I look forward to your next HOT deal !:)

(ps. I'm having a real bad day, lol. Yours was the first post I read. :p)

Glad your having a bad day (in a way) because more posts should be like this.

I completely agree, I look forward to your next hot deal OP. Maybe you can get top of the Top 5 Hot List for the week? :whistling:

The problem I am having at the moment, is that there seems to be loads and loads and loads of deals posted...but most are ****. I think that's largely down to - believe it or not - only being able to have 20 threads per page. When I had it set to 50 per page, when I'd come on there would be 3 or 4 new pages of posts I had to scroll through...now there's 12 - 15 pages and it just overwhelms me somewhat even though it's probably the same amount of actual threads. I am not really enjoying HUKD at the moment like I used to, I am just here cos I hate feeling like I am missing out on something lol
#9
I agree with you and the original poster totally Starlet, people are just desperate to post any old rubbish that has a few pence off.

Your point about the 20 threads is a good one and i agree its a pest having to flick thru 12/15 pages instead of the previous 3 or 4 to see that days deals.

Maybe you could write to admin to suggest an increase to the volume of deals on each page?

Ive written today to suggest they send an email to new members about guidlines for posting deals due to the number of duplicate posts rising fast just because people either dont know how to check if something has been posted or just cant be bothered to check.

I agree with you two about the 20 threads thing. I would also like to see expired deals taken out of the equation as sometimes this can amount to quite a significant % of those 20 threads.

I always thought as well that it would be nice to be able to segregate "todays deals" from the whole deal forum.

Just a thought ! :)

Not sure if I've understood you correctly but there's an option to set the number of posts per page in your control panel.
#12
Good idea hottoshop, why dont you write to admin or put a seperate post in this feedback section about adding a "today's deal" section as that would be great for people who work all day.

Threads TJ,...........not posts.
I got confused on that one as well because I always have it set to 50.
Still only shows 20 threads though unless I have it totally wrong :w00t:
#15
Yeah unless it's changed recently...that's posts per thread rather than threads per page...
#16
ah i thought i was doing something wrong, thanks for the info TJ around posts per thread which helps.

Hopefully admin and the mods will think increasing the volume of threads per page is a good idea

Aaaaah right, I get you. Might be an idea if admin are able to do it but I've just checked some other forums and they don't have that option either so it might not be possible. I guess they changed the default on the new site because they wanted to squeeze in the side panel. :?

That's true but the problem is the temperature of a deal is not always relative to how 'good' or 'bad' it is. (And in my personal opinion a lot of 'rubbish' gets voted really hot.) My only solution (when I have the time) is to use the custom tab to ignore temperature and trawl through everything looking for things which are relevant to me. However that can take an awfully long time!

I know I may sound like a broken record but I still think everyone who clicks on 'hot' or 'cold' buttons has to leave a comment, or at the very least people shouldn't have access to 'hot' or 'cold' buttons until after going into the thread to read the comments. It's not perfect - and I don't think there is a perfect solution - but I reckon it would reduce the number of trigger-happy votes.

We generally do not allow non-UK sites on the forums (apart from a few worldwide companies, pre-approved by admin)

Do you not use the "exclude expired" filter?

Emma, any particular reason the volume of posts on one page were reduced in the site revamp??

hottoshop - im happy to accept constructive criticism, so it doesn't matter if I want to read it or not :P

I don't post many deals. Mainly because I don't have time to search very often, and also I'm not interested in posting "get 2 penny sweets for 1p" type deals. But I will try harder!

and a lot of my posts are negative at the moment - I admit that, and I'm concience of that fact every time I post. But I think thats indicative of the site.

For example, the ebuyer "gaming" pc thread - I entered that thread because my primary interest in this site, is gadgets and computery stuff. I felt once again let down and conned by another subzero deal, so I posted.

I'll try and cheer up - but really I posted here to see if it was just me, or if others felt the same.

I'm sure others do feel the same vibe but then you're your own person aren't you so it's really only going to be you that helps change things. Does that make sense ?

You took my post in the spirit it was meant rather than throwing your toys out the pram which you could quite easily have done.
I reckon it wouldn't take that much to make things look a whole lot better but it's partly you that's going to achieve that.

I just posted 3 deals, each one has gone straight to minus and only one comment been made. It would be easy to get upset and peed off but what the heck.
Someone, somewhere might just benefit and that's what really counts.

A bit like Christmas really, seeing or imagining the look on folks faces when they get just what they wanted ?

Take care mate and will still look out for your next big HOT deal :)
#23
I had it set to 50 before the forum changeover, but then again, I have a big monitor :-D
#24
Very much agree with the person who said a lot of things that I think are really good, get voted cold, and a lot of stuff I think is useless, gets voted hot.

Sorry Emma I missed your comment first time round.

To be honest no I didn't, I will now. I just haven't got used to clicking on tabs and filters and stuff yet.

It would be interesting to know actually just how many members are the same, lol.

I think as well that when I first posted about this expired thing it was more to point out what newcomers to the site were seeing when they first entered.
I just didn't think it gave a good impression to be confronted by a significant amount of expired deals on the landing page.

Perhaps it's just that I am not as quick as picking things up as others though , lol
#26
That's a good point hottoshop - maybe the forum default should be to filter out expired deals with the option to include them if you wish rather than the other way around.
#27
IIRC, it was the default at the start, and people clamoured for it to be changed to show expired. (I could be wrong, my memory's not what it used to be)
#28
:-D As you've said elsewhere, you can't please everyone! I do wonder if the impression to newbies should be given priority though, given that all the existing members have to do is go into their Control Panel and tick a box to get what they want.
#29
Well, think about this. Say it was set to "exclude expired". Look at these deals that are over in minutes or hours. People might never even know that they exist.
#30
Besides the fact that they too would have the ability to opt in to expired deals, if they can no longer get the deal, is there any need for them to know? Personally, I don't filter anything because I'm too nosey  but it's often damned frustrating seeing deals you've missed out on - especially when they keep getting bumped weeks later as people receive their products and discuss it's virtues! :viking: :-D

Where's the magic gone?

POSTED BY: vibeone 1 day, 7 hours ago

I'm not sure if its the new site or, more likely, the time of the year, but HUKD seems really rubbish at the moment.

The worst thing is though, people seem desperate to post deals anyway, regardless of if they are hot or not.

There just seems to be loads of silly ****** deals being posted at the minute - you know, sweets 95p instead of £1.20 and rubbish like that.

Anyone else agree?

Yeh its **** now - i cant be arsed to post new deals anymore as no-one cares or i dont ever get rep for any good deals ---Long live Hukd Pre 2007 november

Long Live HUKD Pre DanDoc.

(Blurry bit in the middle - we all hope to forget)

Long Live HUKD Post DanDoc.

I read the title as 'Where's the magic gnome?", I could have sorted that problem.

"Exclude Expired" was set to default with the new site, but less advanced users were confused when the threads in which they were talking about things they'd ordered, whether they'd arrived, etc were disappearing. Therefore, the most sensible option seemed to be to make the "Exclued Expired" turned off as default.

:)

How bad is HUKD getting allowing posts about just about anything the one that got me was about buying 2 finger kit-kats for 6p each how much happiness can these people have in life. Don't run into your local supermarket and tell us of items of no relevance it will cost you more to get there than what you save. This will me that HUKD will be swamped full of nonsense and that we will miss the important ones. Can you please also eradicate the expired vouchers and items from your site as hindsight is a wonderful thing but I don't really want to what a great deal that I have missed pointless move onto to the future not the past.
#35
The reason expired threads remain there is because it's often useful to discuss deals that you've bought if you need help from others with the item, if it hasn't arrived, etc.

If you would like to exclude expired deals then click here:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/all/all/discussed?&expired=false

If members think a deal is "nonsense" then it will be voted cold. I suggest that you set up a custom tab with a minimum temperature requirement (say, 30 degrees). You can also add all categories except groceries if you wish:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/custom-settings

If you cannot use the temperature setting to filter out these deals then it OBVIOUSLY shows that a lot of people like them and you're just being a little bit too fussy... after all, if the really were rubbish deals then they would have been voted as cold.

If you posted deals in order to 'get rep' (you really believe it's important?) then I'm rather glad you don't anymore, even if it means less deals are posted. And I say that remembering you have posted some good deals in the past.

Long live all those people who do spend time finding good deals for others' benefit - we who don't have the time/know-how to contribute much really do appreciate it.
