I sell on Ebay and Ebid, but I would not advertise the same item on both sites at the same time, in case it is sold twice. It can also be confusing for the seller trying to keep up with questions and who's interested in it.
You are best to try one site and if it does not sell try another.

Do you mean why can't you advertise an ebay auction in the fs/ft forums? Because it's for sale on eBay...that's what eBay does, there 's no need to clutter our forums with eBay auctions.

Paul,
I believe he advertised something here and said 'advertised elsewhere,' Ray asked where. When he said ebay, I think it was removed from here.
[admin]#8
Ok thanks. Yeah, the FS/FT forum is for sales within that forum to be made in that forum. Pointing to a sale on an external site isn't allowed.

The way it has been going lately is that people are putting a post on here, then later putting it on ebay, and we remove the post from here. But if it's not just ebay, where do we draw the line at having to remove the post or not? So lately, if it's advertised any where else at all, we'll remove the post.

I think that's fair enough.

i posted something the other day, and put at the bottom, advertised eslsewhere (avforums) . cant see the problem with that. post got removed btw

jase159 - the forum is for items for sale and traded in the forum not elsewhere. I think that's a pretty straightforward rule.

Then you were also breaking the rules for adverts on AVforums.

AVforums Rule 3 , GOODS AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE
For all adverts in the AV Hardware classified adverts forum, you are not permitted to advertise or offer your items for sale elsewhere. If you wish to make other people aware of the goods you have for sale, please refer them to your advert here and ask that they put in an offer in the normal way.

I believe that is wrong. If I want to advertise my product for sale in two papers at home then I can, if I get calls from people after ir has sold I just say sorry it's gone.

eBay is different because people are actually bidding on that product and the sale technically has already started. Whereas selling an item on a forum and also listing it in the classifieds of my local paper should not be a problem.

First come first served. It males no difference. What if I was asking questions about an item on here and then go to make the tea only to come back and find a lurker has offered the asking price and bought it? It makes no difference who buys it, first to offer the price gets it and if it's a large item then you are limited to the people on here who could physically collect it as it's Nationwide, but it's worth listing in case somebody wants what your offering (As well as the listing in your local paper).

As far as I am aware it's a place to advertise something plain and simple. To me you get the benefit of listing it here because your a member of the forum, you should not be limited to list the item here and just here, I think that is silly, AVForums adopted this policy ages ago and I think it stinks, they even ban people for advertising elsewhere, what a bunch of kids.

If the product is for sale let people advertise it where they choose, as long as it's not an auction site because technically that would be wrong.

Can I ask what would happen if I only had it for sale on here but a few people where I live knew I was getting rid if it and came and offered me asking price so I sold it, would I get a wrist slap from the admin on here?

I think closing the boards this way is silly, please rethink the terms regarding this.

Also AVForums do let you sell DVD's and games outside of their forum as long as you put at the bottom "Advertised elsewhere". Now explain to me what the difference is selling a movie, a game, a piano, a house, a bunch of lego?

Nothing, absolutely nothing, so they really don't have a clue what they are on about either. Why ban someone for listing the car for sale elsewhere yet they let the other people sell their games on any forum or paper they want? I know this is not AVFORUMS but you seem to ne taking a similar policy which is wrong.

beerman1 - If you listed the item full on HUKD and didn't point to another site/sale then I don't think anyone would say anything. It's the people that post and say go to ebay/amazon/forumx to see the listing/complete the sale/etc. that is the problem.

Yeah mate, I understand now, no need to inform people of the sale elsewhere when they have it clear on here for everyone to see.

I understand the principal now. :)
