Why are "deals" that are simply quidco / TCB now allowed?

guvguv

There seems to be an increasing number of deals that get posted that are simply cashback offers. Is this now OK?

A quick scan though and you wil find several "deals" on phones, Sky Tv etc that are simply RRP items made attractive through cashback that may or may not be paid.

Can you clarify please?

it tends to be the very high cashback deals that stay if you notice, they are usually sky and mobiles !

Hi guv, if it's purely a retrospective cashback offer we normally misc them with a mod comment. If the cashback is linked to an item that's also on offer or the cashback provider is offering an exclusive 'up front' deal in addition to the retrospective cashback (eg a cheaper exclusive monthly rate if you go through TCB / quidco or it's a new introductory offer etc) then we normally allow them in deals. Members are often quick to flag any threads that should be in MISC via the report link and we review and action accordingly.

If you do see any threads we've missed or you feel need further mod clarification please report them and we'll review, thanks

Hmm... seems the specific ones I was talking about have disappeared now! I did "report" them though - and they remained, hence the question! They were simply RRP retail items with cashback through TCB and Quidco.

As mentioned above - it was sky and mobiles..... cant see why the difference in treatment. If its a spl offer, with an extra incentive, then thats one thing, but when the deal is just cashback, why differentiate ifs paying a bit more than normal. It belongs in Misc as Info. Same goes with full price items... eg bloody iPads at full price! If its a heads up (which its all it is) then it belongs in Misc?

    Yes or No?

I like deek72's answer ;) . RRP ones in general wouldn't normally be classed as deals - they may be more suited to a misc thread discussing the stock availability of a particular product. but it would be fairer to say we'd review each deal thread submission on its own merits. For example the recent iphone 5 thread was moved to misc as it was the RRP release price.

Sometimes threads may remain in deals eg if it's a hard to get item or if a particular supplier has stock and favourable delivery terms or other added benefits attached to the offer. Again report any threads you feel would be better suited in another forum and we will review and look at the member feedback both in the report and also from the member comments within the reported thread.

We do appreciate the time and effort members put into finding and submitting deals to help other members and will try to provide feedback and guidance whenever possible.

There have been countless examples of Blu-ray Disc, DVD, Video Game Systems, & Video/Computer Game releases that are listed as "Deals" when the item is only available from one (or a very limited few) retailers & is listed at the fixed recommended retail price.

These threads are really a "Heads-Up" for the release & would be suitable for the "Misc" forum instead.

I will "report" any I see from now, but unless all of the members of the "Mod team" have a consistent approach then the movement of such threads will be subjective according to the person reading the "report" submission.

I thought RRP could be a deal, dependant on the item and relative cost of other similar items.
(If members deem it otherwise they can vote it cold)

They're supposed to show the cost for the year in the title too. I did keep MJ busy for a few days

but the novelty soon wore off when it was clear no one really gave a ****.

Hey, we still do. Some we probably miss and sometimes we amend the deal price and the OP on occasion will edit it back. It is something though that we all know should be happening.

How long are they suspended for? (_;)

Not having a pop at you MJ. You've been one of the few members of staff who I think does a good job but with stuff like cashback, second hand crap and one-upmanship in deals coupled with poor modding and Admin's blinkered view on the new skin it just seems like the site's going downhill at the moment.

I know at least one long standing member has today quit the site and I can see others following suit.

Sorry for getting a bit heavy.

That is sad that someone feels that they need to leave because of the update. I guess to a certain extent it really depends how willing someone is able to embrace change together with finding the benefits in a new layout and being able to enjoy visiting.

Personally I have always found change to be easy to overcome and I look back at a really old version of the site and it feels weird just thinking how it was. This isn't the place for me to comment on it but I personally really like the new layout. Everything for me just seems to be in the right place.

Also, I was really keen for thread pages to be at the top of threads as well as the bottom so don't think I am agreeing with these new changes because of my role here. I am not a "yes man" :D

Anyway, I shouldn't be hijacking this thread with comments about the new site!!

I don't think it is just the update, though it it could hardly have helped.

Not really, its a deal for 12 months recovery for £60. £10 if quidco tracks

I assume you mean £60 is RRP, therefore not a deal? Well I think its a great deal at £60 so would have voted hot anyway, but its potentially even better if quidco tracks.

The HMV Exclusive Steelbook of "The Dark Knight Rises" (as I mentioned this morning, & updated the comment when the HMV site had been updated with the price), is listed at £16.00.

This is the Recommended Retail Price given there is only one retailer selling the product:

"Dark Knight Rises: Hmv Exclusive: Steelbook: Ultraviolet - HMV £16.00"

sigma: If I "report" this, will it be removed?
