Makes sense but I guess you could always exclude expired deals
from you pages if you wanted to..........

I don't think it's the close that bumps it, it's the comment - closed at OP request etc. that causes the bump

Yes but it is not a case of me excluding them
It would require the people "browsing to buy" that would need to "exclude" them
as they are the customers that you are advertising to. :whistling:

why arent expired deals deleted from the database,is there a need for expired threads still to be found ?

If you don't want to see them, just click the "exclude expired" button.
#9
its not a matter of not seeing them,i dont know why they can still be accessed, cant they just be removed/deleted

surely they arent needed

unfortunately as threads are expired because wrong dates could be entered, or people expire for wrong reasons then you could miss out on something that isnt expired
#11
some members continue discussing the deal after its no longer available too, so another reasn not to remove it completely
#12
like on ebay forums theres an option to report your own post/thread and its removed, surely thats a good idea,i know you can delete a post here but if you've started a thread surely you should be able to remove it yourself too

hence why it was suggested to have had an expired board

When I started this thread I was refering to the "Sale / Wanted" forum
Therefore people selling have their items bumped "down" the page and have to use their limited bumps to get it back on view.
So using the Exclude button does not help the seller.

Expired deals can be full of really useful informtaion on stores, products, reviews, etc.

Sorry Sassie, You are right and my point is well made in your thread.

This is why they could be sent to an Archive section which everyone would have access to
banned#18
i think have an expired section is the way to go, but unfortunatly people do wrongly expire, and this would cause problems and more work for the team, but i still dont get the need to bump a thread to lock it in the fs boards, its just plain daft to me ( i am referring to threads that have been asked to be locked)
#19
a little off topic but speaking of expireing deals does anything go against you if you expire them, i was looking for a code earlier and the ones i was finding were months and years old i was trying them they didnt work so i expired them i did about 3 or 4 and then wondered if i was doing anything wrong so i stopped i have used the site a little while now but always wondered this ?

The number of bumps permitted has been increased from two to three to compensate for this.

I believe that it's a good idea to post in the threads that we've expired it at the OP's request so that other users know that there isn't another reason involved (i.e. rule breaches, etc) and it reminds users that they need to expire their own threads.

wouldn't this same reasoning not then also apply to suspensions, bans etc?

In FS/FT there's a post in a thread every time it is closed due to a rule breach quoting the rule that was broken - so yes, it does generally apply to suspensions and bans in FS/FT.

i'll quote myself again, couldn't this be made possible,an OP having the power to delete their own thread ?

why should you be able to delete other peoples posts? :?

but that only applies to the thread in question, my point was informing other users why a certain member has been banned or suspended.
Every so often a thread will pop asking why someone has been suspended etc as they have bought/sold items on the fs'ft forum.

NOT other peoples threads,my own,for example,if i start a FS thread,i should be able to delete it if i choose

you talking about your posts or your threads? you can delete your won posts, but not your threads as inside them are other peoples posts, and you shouldnt be deleting anything in the fs boards anyway
#29
any thread i make i should be able to delete,a FS one if nobody is interested in the item for example, ive had threads like that and nobody has posted on them so why cant i delete them, theres no need for them to be there

as i say ,on ebay, you cant delete a single post on the forum BUT you can delete your own thread

because it means others would be able to delete post that deals have been made, scammers on this site are bad enough without giving them the chance to delete the evidence, causing more work for the mods, where many threads are started by some they become full of helpful information to others not just the op, you maye the op of a thread but what is posted in it doesnt really belong to you
#31
the same could be said on ebay, but its worked ok there for years,i can delete at will lmao

i'm sure it could be tweaked to work here

im sorry but i really dont see why you would want to be abe to delete posts, here they are locked and then fall down the boards, and also ebay forum doesnt have a fs board, and what works there doesnt mean it will work here, i perosnally think locking works here and to be honest i dont want to put time and effort into helping for when youve had your advice to delete my posts, they may also help someone else

jeeze what has just happened on the fs board proves that this needs to be looked at, mods have just expired, closed and bumped about 30 threads in the space of 10 mins, so all is good to allow an extra bump ecause of this, till it happens again tomorrow when someone bumps their thread back to the 1st page and the mods to go on a locking spree again

As an interim solution, use the exclude expired option and these threads will not appear. Also consider using the Custom Tab to present the a view that suits you and just use this for FS/FT.

it really isnt about customising, its about coming up with a better solution to the mods knocking other peoples deals off the front page, especially annoying if only just listed

No attempt at being rude, so sorry if you took it that way, although it does look a wee bit snappy, and for that I do apologise

I was trying to point out an interim solution at the mo which would work for all.
banned#39
it doesnt work and it isnt fair, if i people use the exclude expired, then they miss threads that are wrongly expired, or people put in wrong date and it expires immediately, it also isnt fair on members who post a fs thread and is instantly knocked to page 2 or 3, this has been asked about months ago with the same reasons given so your postcame across as extremely patronising, i also meant my response may be rude

My thread http://hotukdeals.com/item/398975/fs-3-huawei-e169-usb-dongle was quietly closed with no comment and associated bump. Is this the new way now?
