You've got a point tbh

If self promotion was allowed, the forum would be swamped with nothing deals promoted by the people that are selling them?
#3
except that if it was allowed everyone would do it,it would become spam central-how would ebuyer be limited to just "good deals"? they would post EVERYTHING and so would thousands of other companies-you have a point but it just wouldnt work.
#4
correct no matter if it was a deal or not it would get posted and ruin the forum.....

Here's an easy way to think of it:

1. How many good deals do you see listed in a newspaper?
2. Would you visit a site that consisted only of newspaper ads?

No, but I'd still like the old Saturday ad scans back

+1 really miss them

Regarding ebuyer, why not ban the accounts that were self promoting (am assuming this has been done) and then allow HUKD mmbers to post any really good deals from ebuyer? That's what the site is all about, surely - good deals?

maybe that is the next step for HOTUK then, instead of saying I seen this DVD @ play for this price, and also this DVD @ play for this price, why not just have a thread for the company PLAY etc etc so no other threads can be opened about play

I'd like to see one thread per item, not per company - and then all the different companies prices listed, and then a the thread would be taken up with relevant discussion about the product and the various companies.

Probably wouldn't be workable though and overall I like it pretty much the way it is.

I understand where you are coming from but am not so sure.

Who do you think would do this? If you mean big companies then surely they would give up quite quickly when they realise that because the deals are not good, they are not making any sales as a result of posting them here.

Surely the system of peer based review will elevate the good deals and relegate the bad leaving no benefit in spam?

Na, seriously, if tesco, Asda, Currys, Game etc all thought that there was free advertising available they would take it, advertising is expensive, anything free is good, they also have an eye for bargains, just like us, lol.
