Because noobies have no / little voting power.

With a little rep and more posts your voting power will strengthen
#2

No Ive used the site since Jan to find a TV but never posted before. Got me a 46inch Sharp 1080p for £450 and a £210 PS3 amongst other things, so glad of the site :-D

And yes I've voted cold when I think a product is inferior. Inferior products for less is not a hot deal

YEs usually because cheap crap is not a good deal  Cheap quality is great :D

So if I post a deal that goes hot does my voting power go up?

Er, you state yourself that it's not a bad deal, and yet still vote cold just because you can get a different product. That's like voting cold on a deal for oranges because you can get apples elsewhere.
#10
its can be beacause someone has voted opposite to what youve voted at nearly exactly the same time meaning that the score stays still....up 9 degrees, down 9 degrees...it all stays still!

So were supposed to vote every 'not bad deal' hot? If you can get an identicle PAnny for the same price, thats the better product and better deal and therefore you should get the better 1 not an inferior model for the same price. LGs have all sorts of problems and lack the quality of a Panny so to vote hto would do anyone not researchign TVs a disservice

This is exactly the reason why newbie's get no voting power.

The way the voting works - you vote on each product's price compared to how much it costs elsewhere.

Your personal opinion into whether the product is crap or excellent has no bearing on how you vote.

Just because you personally might not want the product does not mean that someone else doesn't, they might have been looking for ages for it at the cheapest price, and that's what this site is all about - finding specific products at the cheapest price.

If you can find the exact same product cheaper elsewhere, then vote cold and provide a link as to where you saw it cheaper.
If you find it more expensive everywhere else, then vote it hot.

So for instance you'd vote a hot on a branded HDMI cable that was the cheapest around at £50 despite being the exact same spec as a £1 cable?

If it was the cheapest price available, yep.

So shouldnt the name of the site be best price on a specific brand but not necessarily a hot deal dot com :whistling:

I dont think most people vote the same way as yourself. I actually found a great price for Asics 3000s on here, 1 of the best running shoes available and it was voted pretty cold, because it was too much for a trainer, too many people vote hot for cheap stuff that is just that in quality

I think you'll find that they do, as that is how this site works.
If you don't like it, feel free to start up best price on a specific brand but not necessarily a hot deal dot com and see how far you get.

Once you've been here longer than five minutes you will also notice that people vote cold on lots of things for all the wrong reasons.

Hi 400lbBench

Welcome to HUKD

As a few members have pointed out, new members have only a low voting power. It also takes a few seconds for a vote to register. So, although you may vote an item hot/cold it won't show till a few seconds later. Hit the F5 key and yiou should see the temperature change.

As you post more deals yourself and they get hot your voting power will increase; till it eventually gets to a maximum of + or - 9. You can also get rep for posting deals etc from other users.

Also, as already mentioned, some people vote an item cold or hot not based on the price of the product; but there are voting rules to be adhered to; and if a member repeatedly breaks the rules then action in the form of suspensions/infractions can be taken.

Hope that answers your questions.

Look forward to seeing you post some hot deals.

Is there a guidline to voting as Baba suggests or is it personal opinion? Thanks Andy, I will be posting 1 or 2 tonight :)

I think if you post a reply THEN vote it doesn't work.
Try voting 1st.
At least that's what's happened when I tried. :-\

Yeh voting a deal Cold is wrong if the personal reasons are flawed/argument is flawed or personal opinnion is not valid.

"Xbox Game voted cold because you like PS3."

I do vote cold if the deal is garbage and not going to benefit someone but hinder them or rob them in a basic term.

You can cold vote if the deal is colder elsewhere and you can then post this deal in the post, but make sure its from a retailer - not ebay etc.

If a deals a good deal but you don't want it, why not vote hot?

If theres a reason you don't like the deal, best off just stating your opinnion then voting it cold for that reason if its not going to harm someone.

If its a deal that shouldn't be posted then you would spam it.

Expiring it is for when a deal is out of stock or no longer available.

Thats just my opinnion Mods may think otherwise.

It's to stop things becoming hot too quickly. The more people with a +/-9 vote, the higher/lower all deals get voted. It makes the newer members vote a bit pointless.
