Why not post this thread in feedback?
The search is only as good as if the posters post in the correct way, using the right merchant, links etc.
Must admit i am not convinced it searches tags only, lets face it, not many threads *have* tags, ironically enough, nor does this at time of posting. Intentional to test the search or ironic?
What deal did you try to post and what is the link to the original?

Try Advanced search where you can widen it to include title AND comments.

I gave up searching every day, so I wrote some software to search the site for me using their API.

Basically I can stick in as many search phrases as I want and it simply gets the top x of new and hot threads and searches the title and content for my phrase.

I noticed that the search doesn't allow you to search for Free Screenings, which is the reason I wrote it.

Maybes you could do the same thing?!

never had a problem finding free screenings myself, just choose advanced search, select freebies and type the word "screening"-works fine.

I agree , the search isn't really good enough for a site like this. Why not post the comment here, so others can give an opinion too and everyone can discuss?. Makes perfect sense to me.

Ok, put it in feedback, but it is of general interest

how on earth was I to know that? There were 6 posts and 6 hours between boydent999 posting and you replying, you know how to use quote, so how would anyone be able to guess at which post you were replying to? Add to that it was in feedback at the time.
What I meant was anyone can comment if its in feedback, so don't see why you think it should be in misc, when it is feedback about the site?

Because there are specific sections for different things, why not post this in the for sale section or vouchers?

Why not archive things off to improve search performance and results? I often see deals from over a year ago that have long expired from the retailer (and not necessarily the same on HDUK) returned in the results. If members want to search that far back, make it an advanced option.

It's not so much a problem on a desktop, but more a performance issue on mobile. Maybe it's my phone dumbing down somewhat (HTC Desire), or just bad reception, but search can sometimes be a tedious wait for results, and sometimes results no longer relevant are also returned in the search.

I do like the RSS feed though, and expanding it to be a little more would be great in assisting accessibility into the site, but that's a different topic.
