I like the way hotukdeals does its stuff.....With out hotukdeals...I would lost in the wave of ebay feedback.....

It's based on the amount of deals you have posted and rep.

It increases as you become a more trusted member. If newbies/non regular contributers were to have +9 straight away then it could lead to a lot of abuse of the voting system. :)

I know what its base on but why should anyone have +9 or whatever anyway, If everyone had one vote(-1 or +1) then you would get a fair representation of wether a deal is hot or not, I've seen loads of regulars voting cold for some stupid reasons and the same for hot too on some ok deal, Imagine if we voted for government in this way "I'm richer and older so my vote counts as 10"
[mod]#6
+9 seems ok to me.........it used to be more so it's already been toned down. :)

But system isn't set up like that, it's set up to give more voting power to those who have contibuted more not those who have been here longer or those who buy more.

Or, the government could tell you that despite having a job, driving a car and being married with children at 17 you can't vote.

i know where your coming from i would be happy to be only on -1 or +1 instead of the 9 if one person with a 9 votes cold it would take 9 others to get it heated back up, i think we would get a more fair view of how good a deal is if we all only had 1 vote

I just checked out some of your previous posts so don't take this the wrong way but how is playing a word association game contributing to this site?? And I bet you have +9 like me.

LOL, playing a word asscociation game doesn't contribite to my voting power either (and you've gone back a while to find that! :p) but I've posted some good deals and helped some people out occasionally which does.

We are not all equal, either on HUKD, or the real world.

Members with a higher voting power generally know a lot more as to what constitutes a "Deal", and their voting power reflects this.

I'd rather trade inequality in order to fend off spammers.

That's just rubbish, All it means is that they've been on here longer, posted some deals and gained some rep, What constitutes a good deal differs from person to person, Check out some of the designer clothing post for example items at 75% savings yet being cold voted, Baked beans with 1p off going Uber hot and don't tell me that it's all newbies voting hot for stupid deals like this.
#22
I agree with the OP i was moaning about this the other day as its taken me until now to get to full voting power.

However as an example there was one member i spoke to last week who has been registered a month and because he has posted 2 deals he has full voting power.

I don't see why he should be able to vote deals hot or cold +9 within a month when i can't,how is his opinion of a deal more valid than mine?

It generally means that they have contributed to the site, and have a better idea of what a "real deal" is.
Like it or not, I am right. There are a few anomalies of new members having full voting power within days of registering, but these are few and far between.

Let us say that we picked 10 random deals from the first 3 pages of the "Deals" tab, do you think a member that has never been to the site and only joined today would be able to give a better all round judgement of those deals better than someone who has a voting power of 9?

the best way for newbies to get their voting power up is to just go to play or asda and then post all the £2.99 cds as individual deals. Will be at +/-9 within days lol :p
#25
Everyone should have an equal vote to my mind,i viewed the deals on this site for a couple of years before i registered and then i got caught up in misc..lol

I 1st thought this and felt it wasnt fair, ut after realising how many spammers a site like this attracts i can sorta see why

I know what you're saying sass, but its a bit galling that a user registered this month can have a vote of 9 because of 2 deals.

I had no idea it was so easy to get that much voting power!

2 good deals no doubt, and remember as easy as it is to get it is as easy it is to get it removed - lol

Really  Wouldn't have guessed. :p

As Sass says though.......those who abuse it soon have it removed again. The system took away quite a few peoples a couple of weeks ago. lol

There's not really another automated way of measuring a members contribution to a site. You may have posted hundreds of messages helping people out in Misc but there is no way this can be measured and I'm sure many appreciate your frustration. As the site is about deals you can probably understand why voting power is mainly based around deals posted.
#33
The first deal i ever posted it got slated,it put me off.

Took me 6 months to post another one and that was only last week,it was a misprice for 6p and was hotting up nicely but then the company put the price up and that was that.

I didn't realise voting power was based on deals, doh!

If i had, like someone just said,i could have posted a 2.99 media one that some people go nuts over lol

Easiest way is to post the date of the next Next sale, no sale items or details, just the date is sufficient :w00t:

Debz believe it or not most peoples 1st deals go down hill, actually ive had loads, you post them and even if it helps 1 person then job done, voting power is like rep to me, pretty pointless, i dont vote on much and dont leave rep much as if i cant rep everyone then i dont rep, its just a ite that helps me get more for my money and if i can help one person get a bit more for theirs then i have repaid the favour

That is a definite problem. People voting cold isn't too bad but a lot of people get personal and slightly abusive over some deals.

Misc is all sweetness and light compared to deals.........that's full of fighting and abuse. lol

Having said that, rep IS factored in to your voting score...
