daniellog, Avispa, sastek & nh999 it's because you haven't made 10 forum posts yet so are unable to use the PM system.

It's a good idea as it stops the opportunist scammers and the spammers who used to send you links to chinese wholesale tat.

Many scammers used to operate on PM level only and never post whereas for a genuine member, making 10 posts is no effort at all with so many topics etc.

Nah, there are other ways, just limit the pms to 5 per day or something, a total disabling of the service affects genuine members, whearas a 5 limit will flag these unwanted spammers.

You could even have a system which detects duplicate posts and pms, the current system is just a lazy mans excuse of preventing something.

I knew that a friend was after a certain item, saw one here so i linked them to it, they registered here for that reason only..

Or, alternatively allow new members to be vouched by existing members, something has to change

You have to have 10 posts before you can PM.

Why oh why can't the standard message the new members receive state this?

I have submitted a post to alert people to a really good deal for a freeview set top box/ basic receiver at Currys, I've now received a PM from a moderator (sigma) asking me to reply to some questions before it could be published. Trouble is I can't seem to get any replies out via PM. It says I do not have permission. I have tried to use the Contact form linked to at the bottom of this page, but it seems messages are being ignored. A bit of help or commincation for a a novice would be nice.

did you have to spam hotukdeal in the end?

Hi PVR, your messages aren't being ignored, you sent it at 15:47 and it was replied to within less than an hour. As advised, you can send your responses to the moderator's questions via the contact form, or just reply to the email you received.

Yes i tried to email you again using your contact form after posting above - thanks for replying. Perhaps my message from yesturday can also be looked at, as i would like to progress the PM with questions Sigma sent.

Do the PMs on FO.LK count the same way? The system seem to overlap, but obviously whilst I can post on there, I can't on HUKD.
#33
Annoying! Trying to make a trade!!
#34
+1 - trying to send a private message
#35
Thanks for the post, wondered why I was locked out of messaging!

It really would be useful to allow response PM's or completely explaining this in the error message seen by the new users. Otherwise people reply (as I am doing) to posts just to get my post count up so that I can respond to a PM I've been sent!

It's a bit daft having to post 10 times before you can PM isn't it??
#38
im having the same problem?

Doesnt this rule kind of encourage people to make nonsense posts?
#40
Is there a thread to contribute to, to get up to 10? like an introductions forum?
